the g12-65 is the classic early 80s iron maiden number of the beast speaker. it nails the jcm 800 tone better than the regular g12t75 i also prefer wgs et65 which is celestion g12-65 clone
Classic tones. Those 'metal panels' have a more vicious top end bite than the earlier Plexi panels.
Always liked the mid focus of 50W heads better than 100's. Great original playing as always.
@@richardhessian4725 thank you. Yes this one sounds particularly good with this cab!
Are those BB's in that Cab?
@@jamescassidy4045 no, G12-65’s. Have a look at the video description and you will see the detail.
I had a Les Paul that looked exactly like that. It was an early 2000s one. Best LP I owned that wasn’t made in the custom shop. I sold it because the previous owner had cats and it smelled real bad lol
@@dustingmyguitars yeah these are really underrated guitars in my opinion
That's a great amp. Can't wait to hear more of it ❤
That sounds excellent! Do you recommend the Weber mass for the 2203 to tame some of the volume enough to get it closer to its sweet spot?
@@bretfuzz925 yes definitely, takes the edge off the top end too
sounds good... is it a dark one? the full out presence and treble is not normally needed with these amps
@@marvelharris9540 yes it’s also due to the Weber which takes a little off the top end
Most people today have no idea how great those old Ampeg heads sounded. Or how loud they were. Sterilization volume without an attenuator.
Came for the gear. Stayed for the playing. Your noodling always sounds like music. Compositions. Songs. Instead of just blowing scales to show how fast you can play. Bravo!
@@richardhessian4725 thanks! Really appreciate that.
I should add - generally they are snippets of my own or a friends compositions. First one is my take on a song by my good friend Tom called “Why don’t you”, then that blends into “Steve’s Song”, then into some of my own untitled riffs and noodles.
Sounds pretty good. You will get less mud if you cut back on the Bass and turn the Mids up to about the 3 o'clock position. Pretty muddy power chords. Oh, and try not jumpering the high and low channel. Just plug into the top left and let her rip.
Always a rare pleasure to hear a Les Paul + Marshall player who’s not allergic to nice clear treble tones.
Do you use any type of overdrive or booster?
Got one and love it, real rock machine ❤
@@ianbarker2420 yeah this year is one of the very best!
The sound of rock. Up in value every year
That sounds amazing! Great riffing too
Thanks. It surprised me for sure!
THE amp!!!
Vintage guitars and amps. That's all you need
So no good cleans in there?
@@mr.k905 yeah is great for clean too, just not part of this particular demo.
@@marshalljim Ok, thanks!
You got a good one. We bought tons of these JMP 2204/2203 heads back in the 80's when you could buy them for $300-$400 depending on condition. Most sounded like shit, but once in a while you'd find a great sounding one... you kept those of course 😅. I get a pretty decent modded Marshall tone out of my little Bogner Ecstasy Mini head... check it out.
Great sound.
That was great. Thx.
Those cabs have the T1281s?
@@Voodoo66Chile from memory the top cab had T1217 and the bottom T1511
How can you tell its a pa spec model and not a guitar spec
@@JR_Taylor I think this one had a sticker / model badge on the back
Please play some leads brother. Its important
@@HamsterSpanks I’m not really a lead player but will try and add some in future for sure
Pretty close. Tone is nice. I think Eric played some of the early riffs higher on the neck on the D and G strings instead of the B and E done around the 2nd fret. Freddie played it like that. Here's a great video of how Eric played it on the Beano Album. ruclips.net/video/X0KrZgDEzo4/видео.htmlsi=JnrM3WB9QcEgnrYa
@@SIXSTRING63 thanks, I’ll check that out
Do you have any clips with an LP with more hard rock tones ? Would love to hear it like that….
@@Burkhimself do you mean with this particular head or just in general?
Really a tribute to EC, nice job tho
No, NOT a tribute to racist clapton ! Mayall saved clapton from the streets and obscurity! ( do your homework before commenting please )
Tasty tone for sure!!

Great tones! I have it's big brother a '79 2203...
@@gtrbarbarian thanks, great amp!
Dude, nice! I have a 1969 JMP 1987T. It used to be owned by Ron Reyes, and was used in some Black Flag live, and the Jealous Again EP during the short time he was with them. The weird, but cool thing about it though is it has a tube rectifier. So far I haven't really seen any other 1987T's that have one except the one Jason from Headfirst Amplification has.
So what does Bass mean in this particular Amp? Like does it mean more like a Bass vs a Lead Amp kinda thing, or was it actually a so called Bass Amp? Also, it would be funny if they did mean Bass vs Lead, because in reality I think the difference between a Bass, and a Lead spec was like a different value in one component hah. Sounded cool though whatever it is. I only knew about the Lead 12, and I have the full white stack.
@@jamescassidy4045 yes it is designed for Bass guitar
@@marshalljim Oh I see! Cool, thanks man! Yea, wasn't sure if they meant something else, because of the whole Bass/Lead thing hah.
Sick dude!!!!
@@jamescassidy4045 thanks
Thing looks and sounds incredible. I’m curious, you’ve been collecting and selling for years. What has been your personal favorite amp & cabinet or combo you’ve had? Thanks for the vid as always
@@popeye089 thanks! This one is right up there but I had a 69 Metal Panel Super Lead a few years ago with a tatty basket weave B cab that was amazing. I do keep coming back to the JMP 2203’s and JCM800 2205’s though.
@@marshalljimwhat era 2205 is your fav ?
Holy moly!!!🔥🔥🔥
I just got a abandoned 1978 super bass, and i cannot wait to play it
What speakers are in the 2045 ? I have one with Mackenzie speakers and it is a different flavor .
@@InTheWind629 Hi, they are T1281 G12H Creambacks
do your speaker cones 'glow'?
Sounds like the speaker is crapping out!
I think it’s the recording interface clipping, as it sounded ok in the room
These are GREAT sleepers!!
When unattenuated and wide open the models 2204 / 2203 from the late 70's roar with tone , a little less fizzy (attenuator) than the sound captured. I feel these models were the last of the great Marshall amps and worthy of a reissue providing they source better transformers for the design than the ones Marshall use these days you gotta keep this one ,worthy of your collection!
Hey thank you James !! This one sounds awesome !! From Mistic at the beginning to Kick A Rock !
Yeah thanks I’m keeping this one for sure!
@@marshalljim Agreed ! This one is special and even though YT sound is not the greatest , I can hear it here from Quebec !
Well done. You’ve captured how these amps sound in the room. I use similar settings for my stock 70 Superbass/68 Pulsonic t1221 halfstack except I don’t patch the channels. P10 B5 M5 T10 V1 6 V2 0 Straight in with LP Specials with P90’s and Humbuckers.
I don't think the 70s Creambacks are the right match for a JTM 45. The Creams seem to sound much better with the brighter Plexi circuits .
