    The price of everything has gone up 20 to 400% except paychecks. I still make the same as I did 5 years ago, although I spend the same amount, I only get about 1/2 as much as before, so guess what, some things had to go. Where I am, finding an honest reliable, affordable plumber is like winning the lottery, so although I have done electrical for the last 40 years, I added drain cleaning to my side jobs, and wow, it is crazy busy and a money maker.

      @@onitplumbing I'm in Columbia SC, retired, but busier than ever, can't get anyone to work, and a few that do have no clue what they are doing. So as a handyman, and the fact that I strive on quality, honesty, and being affordable, I have more than I can handle. I inform the customer completely about everything being done and what was wrong and why it happened if I can determine that, and how to keep it from happening again if possible, like stop flushing wipes. Most appreciate that, but some just want it fixed.

    Call backs i hate call backs any profit that was made on a job is often times ate. Up because of a callback ive been in the business for a long time it is very difficult at the stage your at to keep service work going like you said what if the calls don't come in what. Do you have the guys do ? We usually had some new construction work or remodeling work going on as well so to keep guys busy and not have to send them home or something we used thst stuff as fill in but again new construction you gotta wait to get paid on and you gotta pay the guys so its always a constant rob peter to pay paul thing fridays used to have me on edge id have to make sure on Thursday there was enough money to make payroll so collecting from contractors etc i feel your pain believe it i haven't been doing anything except for my own stuff in. I really like this business but oh boy I hear you when you get call backs sometimes you just can never pled the please the person some people in fact most people are very agreeable and easy to deal with. But when you get the difficult callbacks, oh boy you're in for a wild ride!. Glad to hear you've had the same experience with contractors and it wasn't just me. I've just found that for me, the business model of doing service work and drain cleaning is much better, although it has its pitfalls such as scheduling and no jobs at certain times. Thanks for checking in. I'd love to chat more sometime. Let me know.

    I just bought the 100ft 3/4" Speedrooter XL, and so far I absolutely love this thing in comparison to the rentals you get from Home Depot! It doesn't splatter all over when the drum is turning, and it doesn't get twisted in the drum like many others do. The only negative I have is that the sewer water that's on the cable when retracting it accumulates in the drum will cause the cable to rust massively. The drum should have some holes in it for some kind of drainage. I don't want to drill any holes in it and wreck the warranty, so unfortunately I just have to deal. One other thing that might be a con is that the core of the cable is too flexible, but as a positive, it does make the turns much better, so that could looked at either way. Still, I highly recommend this for the money!

    • @onitplumbing
      @onitplumbing 2 месяца назад

      Agreed. Thank you for your input. This will help other people greatly. You might check. At least my cable drum has a hole on the back. You have to turn the drum to get the hole on the downward side and then if you're outside in a safe area, tip it backwards and it will drain most of the water. Other than that, what I found is just spraying it with WD-40. Sometimes when I'm retracting it helps and usually you don't get too much water back unless the line still clogged hope to see you again

    • @onitplumbing
      @onitplumbing 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for your input. Try turning the drum until the hole in the back is on the downward side and then tip it back in a safe area and it will drain most of the water out. Also, when retracting it sometimes just squirting WD-40 on the cable can help quite a bit. Thank you so much for your input. This will help people out. Hope to see you again.

      @@onitplumbing Thanks for the input. There is indeed a small hole in the back of the drum in which to drain. I just purchased some Fluid Film spray to coat the cable, so I'm confident that will work perfectly.

    Not a plumber, but an electrical contractor for many years. The self-employed venture is tough for a while, but it can get better. I started my contracting business at 26 yrs old, doing all commercial and industrial projects. I started my business when my wife and I were dating, prior to getting married. I told her I have to make a go at my own business, or I will have regrets in the future, I didn't want to be an unlimited licensed electrician working for another company for decades. I worked over a year solo until I felt comfortable hiring employees. By 28, I had 45 employees and 18+ month backlog. I worked in the field with the guys during the day, did sub-contract design work for engineers and architects along with office work nights and weekends. I did work 80-100 hrs a week for 12-14 years, but it paid off. The years doing that, I was building experience knowing I wanted to either have guys running the electrical business while I was running an engineering business or go full time engineering. After babysitting grown men for over 12 years and not having reliable lead guys I could depend on to run the contracting side, I slowly dissolved the contracting business and went full time engineering solo. (Best business decision I ever made). I have turned down so many engineering jobs over the past 10 years because I refuse to hire employees again. Went from sleepless nights worried about the $70k bi-weekly payroll, $100k monthly material bills, all other bills while babysitting 35 of the 45 employees to <.05% stress, <.05% headaches, <1% overhead and 800%+ profit margin. I still work at least 6 days a week, but from home office on my schedule. I could slow down but I spent years building the client base to have a steady backlog of projects. But, with all of the years working the way I have, it has provided a great life for us. Over the years, when my wife asked me if we can do something (anything), I NEVER SAID NO OR I DON'T HAVE TIME. If she asked, can we go spend the afternoon doing something, I get to a stopping point and stop working. When she asks, can we go on a vacation, my response is figure out where you want to go, about what it's going to cost and give me the dates so I can schedule jobs around that time. The only time she has sat me down to discuss me working too much was because she wanted me to slow down and take a little time for myself for health reasons. She has been so understanding with the way I have worked over the past years, but she knows it was from the determination to succeed and provide a nice life for us. 26 years of an extremely happy marriage.

    I generally use a 4000 psi 4 gpm unit, that unit is not much bigger than your small pressure washer. if it's has roots or scale in the pipe, I get out my 4000 psi 8 gpm set up, that I built for around $3000.00 it's just 2 units tied together with a tee and 2 check valves. So I have a setup with more power and about 12 thousand saved. Fixing to order a reaper nozzle, as that should take care of 95% of clogs that I encounter, then the root ranger will take care of the rest.

      Now that is CLEVER! I like the idea. Lots of money saved! I have technicians so I try to make it simple for them to pull in grab the trailer and go, but I can totally see that working well and I may have to give it a try just to compare it with mine, now I am curious! Thank you~!

    • @stevem1081
      @stevem1081 3 месяца назад

      @@onitplumbing As you already know, getting to a location that can provide 8 gpm is not always the case, so a small tank may be needed, so far the restaurants I take care of have enough flow, but I plan on having a 55 gallon tank set up with 2 spigots, and a fill valve. I might even add a kill switch in case the 55 gallon drum gets to low, would hate to mess up a pump. By the way, one of the units I run is a Dewalt, which was made by Simpson, its like 4200 psi at 4 gpm, the other is a belt drive made by BE, 4000 psi at 4 gpm. I put the tee fitting and check valves together and tested it with just 1 pressure washer so far, it worked perfectly, not 1 drop of water from the check valve that was not hooked up. I don't have the flow at my house to run both at the same time, but I am fixing that also. I bought the ENZ rotodrill 1/4 and the 4000 psi at 4 gpm will run it, but it need 7 gpm to really do its thing. hydromaxjetter.com/collections/nozzle/products/enz-rotodrill-mini?variant=42375304020120 I want to buy the ENZ rotojet to clean pipes, but I need to study which one I need a little more, hydromaxjetter.com/collections/nozzle/products/enz-rotojet-kbr-w-thrust?variant=33342904270980 I also bought one of the reverse turbo nozzles from ebay for about 30.00, it worked really well for a few minutes, then quit, and I was using it with its rated power on my 3000 psi 3 gpm machine. Guess buying cheap didn't pay off that time. So either that root ranger or the ENZ reverse, hydromaxjetter.com/collections/nozzle/products/enz-bend-rotodrill?variant=33864499789956 I learned a lot from drain attic, but most of the drains he works on are 6 inch, so some of the nozzles he uses won't fit in our 3 inch and maybe not even 4 inch. He says he is running 5000 psi at 10 gpm. Then the other slight issue I have run into, I order hoses that say they have NPT fittings, but they come in with BSP threads. I bought a few stainless adaptors, but that just adds to the length of the stiff fitting, making it harder to navigate bends in pipes.
