They also wrote a book together about the experience, which is available through Vesterheim Museum Store, here: store.vesterheim.org/products/the-viking-house-saga
The Christiansons built this Norwegian timber-framed house in 2011 on their land near the village of Stratford, Wisconsin. They built the house based on careful research of Viking-Age building traditions in Norway. Their dream was...

The Rise of Aquavit in the U.S. with Emily Vikre
Просмотров 70День назад

With this new batch of distillers came a new outlook of how aquavit could be enjoyed. No longer limited to drinking it straight with traditional meals, bar...

Using Arts and Culture to Imagine the Future with Anne Beate Hovind
Просмотров 983 месяца назад
Hovind says, "Living in today's modern world, it is easy to experience an anxiety-inducing uncertainty of what the future holds; we only know that change will come quickly and that it will be disruptive, and this inability to comfortably predict the future - even ten years out - makes it risky to undertake long-term projects. The increasing inundation of change that we now face greatly shrinks ...

In the story Anna Elisabeth tells, she talks of a woman named Berta that signaled the authorities at Funchal by waiving her skirt. I find only two Berta's onboard Berta Thompson (my ggg grandmother) and Berta Hervik (Harwick). Can you provide any additional information?

Thank you so much! I've been wanting a video like this and i had to sift through so much slop to finally end up here. The European tales of trolls terrified me as a child. And the artwork depicting them being gigantic in stature, bulbous noses, and unfeeling eyes... draped in ragged hair, with protruding gnarled fingers that you know would break you like a grape. Now I love them and the fear they were able to evoke in me. Such wonderful interesting monsters.❤

This presentation is such a wonderful gift for me because I have become interested in weaving, but am put off by the thought of buying looms and shuttles, etc., etc. And I love folk art so the idea of carving a simple heddle that is portable and easy to use is very appealing to me. I admire Kerstin's thought process and work ethic and that she is sharing her experiences with this craft with others who are interested in learning her techniques. Thank you for introducing her to the U.S. with this video.

I did not know that about the measuring cups - but then I prefer scales. More consistent and repeatable. And when measuring out butter I find scales much easier.... Cinnamon is really important spice in Norway, and usually cardamom is used in abundance. And yeah! Taco Friday! As important as rømmegrøt on Saturday 😜

As an American woman who once lived in Bergen, Norway, remembering all those moments with groups of friends, sitting at the sea talking over coffee (fresh from thermos) and fresh waffles berries and cream, or pushing furniture aside in a flat to drink and dance the night away snacking on on fresh seafood and amazing cheeses and berries. Most of those friends from 38 years ago are still FB friends. Every beautiful memory I had with them can only be described as Koselig! So I am in the process of of opening a glamping location here in Florida and it will be called Koselig, and it will 100% represent the word ❤️
