A guy who sells all these rare items for seemingly cheap not cheap but cheap for the real worth of the items and you guessed it this dude is a mimic tamer who formed the mimics into the items to sell just for them to get mimiced when they try to use say that cheap "healing potion" when already at low hp

I gave one of my players a gun that was a "sleeping" mimic. Every 1 or 20 they rolled while using the gun risked wakkng it up. They didn't know this. Middle of a bossbattle BAM arm gone. Delightful timing

If I spent that much on armor or a weapon and got a mimic, or got a beer mimic I would send the person who sold me such to meet their (Probably evil) god. Probably bring several guards with me. The guards buy beer and armor too after all.

I played a Warforged mimic in one campaign, the party had no idea till we were almost tpk'd and my character ate the right hand subordinate of the BBEG. I died from that final act and made a new character. Lol

A doorway. Say that it looks obviously trapped and locked but seems to have no way to bypass them. The party will get a surprise when they try and push it open

Ok but a beast master fighter multiclass could you theoretically have your mimic transform into different weapons like a sword or mace or do mimics not work like that?

My dm won't let us encounter mimics again. Our barbarian keeps somehow befriending them. He has like five as his friends/pets.

A Dungeons Mimic has actually been around for quite some time. Something very different would be a Mimic sharing a 'body" with animated armor. acting as a Iron Maiden trying to encase players within its own body.

I had my players find a chest, that was a mimic, and one rolled a nat 20 on their animal handling check. Said player now has an ice mimic scythe that they fight with and a deal that the mimic can eat whatever it kills.

I now begin to throw up because the smell is overwhelming.🤢🤮

the book Legendary Dragons by Jetpack7 has an ancient dragon who has been brewing and has a breath attack that makes people drunk. I bought the book simply because of how Impressed I was by the GM screen. But I absolutely love this book and have used it many times.

Thank goodness for an easy way to turn on 2014 rules. Having all the 2014 stuff marked as legacy was a mess. It basically made two of everything!

To be honest, it's not related to dnd or ttrpg but I think its a bit similar. The reason why I hate it when people kill off my characters are 1. Because I can't play them in that setting anymore and their story isn't finished or maybe hasn't even begun yet 2. Abuse of power. This happened to me in a rp server where I was rping and one of the 'staff' came and we had a rp but their character was an enemy and I had no other choice than to fight and die. I can't recall everything that happened but I am pretty sure I can't remember them asking beforehand if it's okay that my character dies. Now normally when I had dnd related stories I didn't really hated when they got killed, it happened once that it was really early in the morning (2 or 3 am), nobody was able to think straight anymore, the house my character was in was burning and instead of walking out of the door that wasn't burning, I took the stairs, rolled a nat 1 and immediately died. And that was really frustrating. Because I barely played her, it was magbe less than 5 ingame days and she already died while I had put quite some effort into her story to make it work in the setting we had and I was eager to continue developing her story through this To cut it short I don't mind if my characters die as long as it's reasonable. I mind it if the story can't be continued with them but I can get over it eventually and the fact I can't continue playing them but not if someone (dm or rp partners) wanted to kill them with bad intent

There’s a difference between not being able to play the mechanical aspects of a character versus not being able to roleplay a character. I’m fine with any of my characters retiring, because I can still role play them, where as any of them dying means the character is dead.

For me, i just want my character to be okay. I don't care if I'm playing her, I just don't want her to have an unsatisfying ending. I've killed my own characters before lol

So... Its kinda both. I enjoy my characters when I build them and being sble to play them brings me alot more joy. When/if they die, I want to know what happens to them. Are they happy? Are they retired? Or are they just... Dead?

for me, i don't want to stop playing the character. i, like many others, put a little piece of my heart in every character i make.

Every campaign i play in, every session, i accept the fact that my character could d*e at any time. That gives everything heft and meaning, i treat every scenario as if it's real. That said, i have a great group that is all in on the fact that my current character is a representation of my trauma & that I'm trying to k*ll a fantasy equivalent of my irl childhood ab*ser. The dm has assured me away from table that my character will complete her goal because he knows what this means, but that doesn't mean my character can't still d*e. "There are always powerful entities that would be willing to make a deal for the right price". I accept this answer. D*ath is still something i want to avoid, but it wouldn't guarantee that my story would prematurely end. I can see the appeal of retiring a character instead of letting them d*e permanently, but as someone who has dealt with ptsd from an attack i almost didn't survive, there's no way i would feel ok with condemning my characters to the hell i know irl. There are things worse than d*ath.

The character not being able to adventure anymore would be fine for me, it would suck, but be WAY better than them ceasing to exist. It's their death that bothers me most. Would also leave open the option for them to come back some day, even in a support role, or bringing several players' former characters back for a final battle, which would be amazing!

Well, I think “character dies” is usually synonymous with “cant play them anymore”. In a situation where they are specifically not synonymous then not playing them is really what hurts.

That really depends on the character and their motivations. For instance I played an old dwarven cleric. His whole dream was that he was left alone in the forge sinking in routine, doing chores and just living in peace, but God send him on a mission. If he lost his legs or something like that he would be delighted to retire and... I don't know. Learn to be mobile enough to just do the chores. But my Tabaxi swashbuckler on the other hand wanted to be a legend, so people forever remember his name. He died in Avernus. The fact he didn't become a legend saddens me, but he got turned into a devil so my head canon is that he ultimately got himself promoted to Archdevil. I'm more willing to accept that than "and he died of depression, 2 years later".

For me personally, it wouldn't make that much of a difference. I get really invested in my character's story, so as long as it's narratively unsatisfying, so long as it feels their story got cut short before it could reach a proper ending, it'll be upsetting.

I love this idea, especially if you want to keep your game slightly more family friendly.

I like the idea of a character not dying but can't go in a adventure. Like he loose it capacity to access his class abilities and can't get xp anymore it creates something interesting in the world building.

Had a character get 2 npcs get pregnant. I have no idea why the dm said they are pregnant. My character was extremely family oriented, so he went with the npcs

I find that I get very deeply attached to my characters, and part of the issues is that because i tend to build very well optimized characters around a concept, i'l ladmit i toe the edge on pwoer gaming, i have yet to have a character die. I do want them to die at some point, but sometimes i don't want it because i don't feel their story is complete. I enjoy my characters and their story, and a story cut short can be painful. But sometimes good!

Im going to be honest. This is a stupid question. You effectively asked if you dont want your character killed off or if you dont wanr your character killed off. If you can not play your character that is effectively the exact same thing as them being dead. Their story is over.

How is this a bad thing
