My dad showed us how to make these when we were kids. He loved to play practical jokes. He told me once that he brought some old industrial insulation “fot rock” to a local dance. He spread pieces of it across the dance floor and went sit at the bar to watch for everyone’s reaction when the smell hit them.

Plot twist: He let it loose that time.

We used to make these to use in school in the 60s...of course every class has the on person that has to go one better..he made one and used rubber from a big rubber powered aeroplane he had and used the biggest washer he could find...during brake time he spent most of it winding this thing up and bragging his fart machine would be the best and loudest...the anticipation of waiting for him to let rip with it had us all giggling... unfortunately for him it was to powerful and as he lent over to let rip this machine was so tightly wound all we heard was a screaming howl as the washer and elastic slung round and trapped his balls..we were in stitches...thanks for reminding me of these machines..😂😂
