What's in the Box? - Pendraken Miniatures' 10mm British Infantry
I'm back looking into what is in the pack for the Blitzkreig Commander British Starter Army - Northen Europe from Pendraken Miniatures.
Today we're looking at the simple foot soldier with their offerings for the infantry platoons and commander.
I decided to take a different approach with this one and more reviewed the miniatures themselves and gave a summary of the painting process rather than giving you a step by step painting tutorial.
If you want to know how I painted these in more detail then check out the excellent video below from Sonic Sledgehammer Studio for his 28mm British infantry that I adapted for this painting project.

Victrix Roman Republic Legions | New Project for a New Location

Things have been busy around here the last few weeks with a move to a new hobby room and all the interior decorating that goes along with that. That said I've still found time for some painting and today I thought that I would showcase a new project that I've been working on, 28mm Roman Republic force for Hail Ceasar using models from Victrix Limited.
Why Play WW2? Well Tanks Of Course! - Painting 10mm British Armour

Today we're back with more WW2 miniatures and we're going to paint up some of the British Starter set from Pendraken Miniatures. Conventional wisdom might say to save the things you are most excited about until last, but I just couldn't wait to paint these Shermans, so I decided to dive right in and get them painted before anything. These came together really quickly, with some simple painting ...

There's a joke amongst my friends that Napoleonics and WW2 catch up to us all in the end, and it looks like WW2 has finally caught up to me and my wargaming table. Not content with small engagements though I'm driving right in with Pendraken's Blitzkrieg Commander IV and their British NW Europe Starter force. Pendraken: www.pendraken.co.uk/
Tiny Medeival Asia - Are Ten Kingdoms Miniatures Worth It?

Today I'm looking at a relatively new sculptor on the scene, Ten Kingdoms Miniatures. They produce STL files for you to 3D print at home and have been focusing on medieval Asia, which is perfect for expanding my Southern Song forces. So let's find out how these models paint up and if they're a good addition to my army and worth your time picking up. Ten Kingdom Miniatures: www.myminifactory.com...

Finally More Tiny Mongollians - Painting Pendraken’s Keshik Bodyguard

Today I'm finally returning to my medieval Mongol army project. Rather than just giving you a video painting the same miniatures as last time I thought I would shake things up a little bit and look at the elite forces of the Mongols in the form of the Khan's personal bodyguard, the Keshik. Today I'm back expanding my Test of Honour collection, and I didn't want to bring you more of the same models or paint scheme so we're going to take a look at the Onna-Bugeisha from Warlord Games. These are intended for their game Warlords of Erewhon but given that there are no fantasy elements to the miniatures they are also ideal for more historical gaming. Brush to Battlefield: Magnetizing My Tiny Samurai

Since armour wasn't normally standardized across an army in the Sengoku period and I don't much like the sound of having to paint a new army if I ever want to play different armies I decided to see what I could do to help these Ashigaru Teppo units fit into any army that I wanted. And the best way to do that is to make the banners swappable, and what better way to do that than with magnets.

I thought that miniatures for Test of Honour would be enough to sate my interest in Samurai wargaming, but apparently not. So I figured that I might as well expand it out into my new favourite scale and see what painting some tiny Ashigaru would be like. After months of thinking about what to put up, I finally got my first video for the channel and with it being the start of the new year, I figured why not mix it in with a new hobby project as well. This isn't a step-by-step how-to paint but a general overview of my painting process for the amazing Mongol sculpts from Pendraken. The aim is to get these up to a decent standard in a reasonable ti...
Lovely Romans, impressive and beautiful red colors!
You've done some great work, they look superb
You could always say that the Hastati do not have fancy shield designs as they couldn't afford it yet! If you use the LBMS transfers they are best applied to a white background. Not all of the Veiltes would have "earned" their wolf pelts yet so I think it is good to see a variety for these young warriors. Great job on the painting and basing!
That is an excellent idea! If I just try apply them to the front shields that are easily reachable that it an exxcelent explanation for the back ones if it becomes clear I'm not going to be able to reach. Also thanks for the tip on the white background, that's definitely caught me out before with other transfers.
Nice stuff. What red paint did you use ?
For the reds I used Blood Angels Contrast paint initially, then cleaned up / highlighted using Scarlett Blood from Vallejo. Really nice paint that's got an almost orange hue to it. Although I've got an old bottle of the old formula (grey lids) not the new ones (black lids on the bottles) I'm not sure if the reformulation has had any effect on this colour (I know it definitely has a bit on their Earth paint that I use a lot of).
@@TabletopSagas-mg7zb Thanks. It looks excellent
Looks like the turrets are out of scale . Look too small for the body . Shermans were known to be kind of tall . Even in the old photos , the turret looks a bit bigger . Dunno , not your fault .
Yeah from what I understand from the tours at Warlord Games a common issue is accuracy of turrets on miniatures (they're often shorter and/or thicker than they should be). Unfortunately it's a limitation of the casting process, there's only so thin and so long you can have stick coming off the main body of the object without increasing the likelihood of damage to either the model or the mold itself, or even just the liquid metal can't get far enough down before cooling. As with most things in life its a balancing act between quality, reliability and quantity. But if that's the case and the choice is between a shorter barrel or no Sherman at all I know which I'll pick haha
@@TabletopSagas-mg7zb I remember the ROCO minitanks I used to get as a kid , they were made in Austria , and accurate to scale . The Shermans were the early war example , with the split hatch . I loved them .
Nice. This is more or less how I paint 6mm.(I do put a final edge highlight on 6's though, just to make those lillt panzers pop). Subbed.
Thanks for the Sub, glad to have you here. Yeah an extra edge highlight isn't a bad idea actually, I need to go back in and do the decals soon so I'll bare that in mind as an improvement I could do at the same time.
Hah! This is lit, wish I'd seen it sooner. - Posh-Tim
haha didn't expect you would come across this but glad you approve :)
Lovely work with those figures & I enjoyed the presentation in general. New sub! 😄
Thanks, really glad you enjoyed the fogures and my video. Welcome to the channel.
Lovely unit, nice job!
Thanks, glad you like the units
Love the tenkingdoms stuff, been supporting since he started on patreon
Great to hear, ive really liking their sculpts and its great to see people are abpe to give more niche areas of wargaming some love. Working on a full video showcasing their minis at the minute, hopefully i can bring more attention to their offerings.
not my thing. (i paint military busts} but the paint job on those miniatures is awesome.
I can imagine you must get a fair few recommendations as pretty similar hobbies, I've always liked the idea of painting busts theres so much you can do with them. But regardless of what the item is for glad to hear you liked tge painting.
Thank you for posting this, medieval China is such a rich period for wargaming its a shame more companies arent making minis for it.
Happy to help bring some attention to the era for wargaming. It definitely is a shame, the more I'm finding out about it the more interested I get, even in terms of research theres so much less to find than european medeivals but its just as interesting. I cant wait to paint up some fire lances and figure out some rules for them.
You’re much better than you give yourself credit! Have you looked into 3D printed 10mm models by the way? The details on those are so sharp i reckon you’d make them look amazing
Thanks for the compliment on the painting, I do appreciate it. I have checked some out yeah, came across a sculpter called Ten Kingdoms and showed off some of their minis in my last video, just painting some up not and the details are really nice to paint.
Lovely units here, well done!
Thanks, definitely happy with how this army is looking
They look very cool
Thanks, glad you like the mini's
Great painting on a very interesting army...and period!
Thanks for the compliment on the painting. Definitely and interesting army, really keen to get them on the table now and see how they play
Very nice work interesting time period to game in
Thanks for the kind message. It's definitely not one I see gamed ... at all really, which is a shame as I've done more research into medeival asia its a really interesting period.
A shame about the miniatures, lovely work though
Thanks for the comment, glad you liked them. Yeah happy with how they came out in the end all things considered.
Love the poses on these minis. Faces don't look that bad to me either, especially after you painted them :) Have you seen the 10mm samurai from wargames atlantic announcement?
Thanks for the compliment on the faces, I'm really happy with how they came out all thing considered. Some of them definitely aren't too bad whwn I look back on them (except the helmet one, not sure its clear in the video but that minis face was really none existant). I have indeed seen the announcement, I'm definitely going to be picking up a box or 2 too try out.
i just like what you are doing. i love seeing some "rare" minis. i also have a lot of warlordgames minis that are rather rare to see. keep going mate :)
Glad you enjoy seeing the minis, it might not get much reach but definitely showing off the 'rarer' choices out there is important, they so often get drowed out by other louder marketing, if i hadn't been just randomly searching the WG website i would have never known these existed.
I finally took the plunge and ordered some 10mm models. I am already in love. The plan is to base them 2 models on a round base and play Lion Rampant. So I iwll have twice the amount of men on the table, but the same amount of bases. Keep up the wonderful work!
Thats actually a great idea to scale up the numbers in the game without adding rules-wise. Hope your project goes well. Glad your happy with the scale, I'm convinced its the best balance between still looking good and not taking too long to paint for larger scale engagements.
Wow good job on those, any hint as to where you got those files .
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, my app didnt send any notifications. I won't say to much (I don't want to risk the scuplter getting in trouble) but I'd recommend checking out cults3d as a great place to find "similar" 8mm STLs.
Cool, I used the plastic samurai from fire forge to make my first starter warbands , recommended them very nice 👍 Nice painting, I went for a made up colour scheme of some minor clan I've yet to name, blue and black
Ive been thinking about picking so.e of those up as well, nice models and good way to add some variety. Minor clans is definitely a good way to go, if I do another band I will go for something less recognisable.
They look superb mate
Thanks glad you like them, happy with how they look given its basically just basecoat and a wash so they paint up super quick.
i stumpled upon your video and really enjoyed it. 2 small things about your audio: music to loud, voice not loud enough. everything else is fine. enjoyed it :)
Thanks for the advice, I was worried about the audio level in this one (still figuring that you), I'll keep it in mind for my next one. Glad you enjoyed it anyway though.
Excellent samurai
Thanks really appreciate it, these mini's are great sculpts and really happy with how the paint scheme brought them out.
Great work mate and excellent flow to the video (and paint!). Very nice results!
Thanks mate, didnt expect you to check it out but glad you enjoyed it.
Really impressive dude, great work!
Thanks, reaply happy how these came out and looking forward to seeing them in games soon
Looking ace! Good job.
Thabks for the comment, glad you like them. Hoping I can get this finished off in the near future now I've done most the work.
Course you can my dude
Unfortunately I couldn't, i was 7 tanks and 2 titans short by the end. But given my opponent was still building his when I showed up for the game don't think I did to bad haha
Cracking job on these miniatures, thumbs up!
Thank you, glad you like them.
Try searching for Ilkhanate paintings, they produced paintings in Persian style that might be helpful
Thanks for the tip I hadnt thought of checking out ilkhanate, on that idea there might be some rus or polish for the golden horde as well. Thanks again, great idea :)
@@TabletopSagas-mg7zb You can also check for the illustrated folios online of some versions of the Jami‘ al-tavarikh of Rashid al Din
I forgot to mention, I did download an older and I think out of print Osprey book on Mongols and it helps to some degree with colours.
Thabks I'll keep looking, i must have dug through a few hundred osprey books on amazon but I'll see if i can track down any OOP stuff as well
Excellent work on the figures
Thank you, glad you like the look of them.
It's a small dream of mine to finally start a 10mm army. This is brilliant, I would love to see more armies. Not to shoehorn you into anything, but there is a serious lack of channels doing 10mm armies consistently. And since yours are painted to an amazing standard, it would be amazing to see you do more. Also, I have been looking at Pendraken for so long, but only a very small percentage of their models can be previewed, so seeing you paint some up in your previous video was very enlightening.
That is something I've noticed as well and definitely smaller scale is something I want to focus on, so I'm also thinking of doing terraon and eventually battle reports when I have enough. If you are interested in Pendraken ones especially, dont worry I've already got plans to use a lot of their originals and the TB Line for islamic and eastern europe so there will in the near future be some examples of those. I'm also looking forward to later in the year when they are planning to get more of the TB Line into production, you can bet I'll be showing those on the channel as well.
@@TabletopSagas-mg7zb Excellent. I have actually been thinking of doing a Warhammer-esque gaming system, but with a homebrew setting of lower fantasy, so mostly humans. Think Mount and Blade, if you've ever played that, and then the Pendor mod. Something along those lines. I always loved the imagery of early Warhammer, think 4th edition, but never liked the scale of the battles. Way too few models. So downsizing that and placing 4 or so models on one base, so to speak... Would be amazing to me. So, I will be keeping an eye out on what you will be showing. Looking forward to it.
Yeah I loved the old m&b warbands, they had some brilliant mods spent more hours than I'd care to admit to playing haha. Lower style fantasy is definitely good, have you tried Warmaster Revolution? Sounds similar to what your looking for and theres some excellent 3d sculpters producing minis for it (have a few armies myself im thinking of putting up on the channel in the future).
@@TabletopSagas-mg7zb All the sculpts meant for Warmaster are way too silly for me. They look goofy, and they always focus on the goofiest parts of Warhammer, which I always hated. For example, I like the idea of Skaven, but I don't like them running around in Doomwheels. That's just dumb. So, something more along the lines of LotR style is more to my liking. I like Copplestone's range of Dwarfs and Orcs, for example. A shame they have so few models. I am sure I can cobble together something cool with Pendraken's range as well.
I was quite impressed with the rate at which you completed them. I am hung up on colours myself on 15mm Mongols. What scale of figures to actual men are you using? I ask because if I use too big a scale, the army they will be fighting wont be represented by more than half a dozen figures, given the size of Mongol attacks.
Thanks, yeah I was quite impressed myself. I painted these off while I had some time off work though and some plans fell through so I basically just had a week of nothing to do but paint. Safe to say my rate has slowed a fair bit since. Colours are definitely a problem there doesn't seem to be much good resources on them, I know Osprey are coming out with a book on the Mongols that looks really useful but it isn't due to release until March I believe, and that was a little to long for me to wait haha. These are in 10mm scale, I chose it as when scaling 28mm figures from inches scale to centimetres it would out to about 11mm so 10 was the closest I could get. I did consider 15mm myself but I was struggling to find other nations that fit the early 13th century I'm going for. There was a few really nice ones that I found for 15mm based in USA and then a few in the UK, since I'm UK based myself it made the most sense for avoiding import tax and long delivery times.
@@TabletopSagas-mg7zb Lol, I'm doing a fantasy thing. Some muppet posted that the Mongols would annihilate a USMC Regiment because they would break and be chased down. But he took all the equipment away from them and left them only with their AR15 assault rifles. So I am going to game it based on the premise that the Marines are out of place, they don't have armour, airpower or heavy artillery. However they will have section MG's, Coy MG's and Reg MG's, plus mortars, the heavy weapons support Coy and snipers. Plus of course the standard kit out for a USMC squad. Laser sighting, hand held drones for reccy, snipers, body armour which given its properties is more than capable of defeating arrows, and combined with 18" shell scrapings would be more than sufficient protection. The Mongol force size is to be a Tumen, 10,000 Mongols, capable of their biggest attack units, five waves of a thousand men. I believe a USMC Regt can be up to 1400 men with all the ancillaries. But the Mongols would be able to put two massive charges in from two directions. Oh, I forgot claymores. Given how Omdurman turned out in a very similar set up I just can't see the Mongols be successful, especially as they were not stupid and knew when to withdraw.
Sounds like an interesting one to play out, not sure where you'd find a system that even closely represents the difference in firepower of a modern rifle compared to a bow. Id have to agree with you seems unlikely the mongols would fair well, even if the USMC only had their rifles, the efficiency of modern firearms is terrifying compared to any that came before it, like the bow.
Really nice work on these, they look great! Sorry about the 40mm bases being out of stock too, I'm not sure why someone didn't just laser those up while you were in the shop!
I didn't actually think to ask when I was there tbh, it was over christmas/new year I popped in though so I don't know if anyone was in to. But it's okay I've since stocked up on plenty to see me through.
