BNSF Golden Sub Switcher 2/8/24
I was down in Denver for work and made my way out towards Golden to visit the Colorado Railroad Museum. I heard some horns off in the distance while I was at the museum, so, after I got done at the museum, I headed West to Golden and found this pair of SD40-2's switch the yard in Golden next to the Coors Brewery. I also got to watch a Coors Brewing switcher move some grain cars at the brewery. Enjoy the sound of classic EMD's switching.

BNSF Oil Train with 2 Helper Sets 6/24/23
Просмотров 6 тыс.Год назад
This loaded oil train was having issues with its 2nd unit at Winston while I was out chasing a grain train earlier in the day. After the crew came on duty to take it West, the 2nd unit would not start. The answer to fix this issue was to tie on a helper set to the head end to give this train the needed horsepower to make it over Mullan Pass.

I decided it was time spend a day on Mullan Pass. I set up at Tobin first thing in the morning and caught this grain train preparing to depart Helena. I then followed it all the way to the summit of Mullan pass and then down to Elliston where the helper set was removed.
Coal train meets a manifest at Elliston, MT 5/18/23

I was on my way home from Missoula, and I came across a BNSF manifest around Jens on I90. I decided that Elliston was a good place to setup as it is the start of the grade on Mullan pass for East bounds. I got a pleasant surprise while waiting for the manifest when I heard a horn from behind me. I swung my camera around in time to catch a loaded BNSF coal train descending into Elliston to cut o...

MRL Helpers Descend the Iron Ridge 10/9/22
One time, I was coming down Austin Rd, headed towards Helena and the road crosses left over the tracks. I'd just gone over the tracks and I looked over and 4 seconds later a big freight came slamming across that crossing! No horns, nothing! God was my co-pilot that afternoon!
FEMA has been an impotent agency for years. People should have learned this from Katrina. It is a bunch of employees that one to be the ones who run the government but do none of their actual job.
😂😊
How many cars?
Montana rail link is my favorite brand I'm sad and angry because it went away
Do you know where the double track ends and where the defect detector is?
Look like SD 70 ACEs. 4400 hp each train consist 128 cars average weight. 140 total of just under 18000 tons Heavy even with 8 locos
what state is this?
Montana
This unit was spotted in Galesburg IL very recently. It's unknown where it's going, but man it was a surprise when it popped up in the yard.
I’d like to get a scanner for listening to locomotive-talk - there’s a train tunnel about 200 yards from where I live, and I commonly hear the rumble and roar of trains.
And the classiest MRL tribute loco!
Easy fun to be able to get that off the front porch!
That IS a cool catch!
That's an old unit there.
Hope she’s not going to be scrapped ☹️
Wie lang ist dieser Zug?
i always loved EMDs love that last helper i used to hear them pass here for miles going up donner when the climate was cooler thanks for sharing
Railfanning across state lines,love it.
I think I saw the train that had those helpers
I dont get the opportunity to see them very often
As the train passes the signal either your camera angle or my eye sees the train going down hill.
Those lead units are GE I think are ACE 44’s the MRL are also Ge as is back pushing unit.
I was wondering why there was a surplus of SD70MACs building up in Helena
The 4300 series SD70ACE’s have been released to the BNSF system as they are all thunder cabs and not lead qualified.
@@DieselTech8 I gotta get out there this weekend
@@Eli_J_G that makes 2 of us. Wanna meet somewhere?
@@DieselTech8 Possibly. Depends on where and when I can find a train going up
Yeah, chances are if I get out there either Saturday or Sunday. I will make an effort to try to stay out there most of the day.
I thought the BNSF took over all MRL tracks!!
They did on January 1st.
I don't understand why this video has 7 views and 0 likes (I subscribed and liked the video)
I appreciate the like and the subscribe.
Had BNSF swapped out all the former MRL helper sets?
No, they substitute BNSF power when the MRL units need maintenance.
That took some big cajones standing close to that train while she was getting backed down to go forward again
Been seeing them older motives alot here lately, they pulling old power out the weeds?
To my knowledge, that is what BNSF usually uses for power out of Butte.
Lately I been seeing alot of ns,up and Canada motives in the laurel yard.
Just a question why don’t they have any as dpu’s in the middle?
列車の編成が先頭から最後尾まで、ワンフレームに収まる、とても素晴らしい映像です。
We were there 4 days before you, and at that time MOW was working between Blossburg and Skyline.
Excellent catch Austin. Great video
holy zoom
Lugar muito bonito Mullan Pass
fab 4 engines pulling
Nothing like a stiff 2.2%, 15+ mile grade to bring a whopping eight EMDS down to their knees on a coal drag! Looks like that second unit blew a turbocharger and subsequently didn’t get a needed bath afterwards!
BNSF conveniently has the access road posted for No Trespassing. 😢😢😢
So little knowledge but so many that seem to have so many suggestions. . . . 😂
My thoughts exactly.
Too much tractive effort behind empty cars can easily wad them up and make a real mess.
That’s a big train ❤️❤️👍👍👍🦘🇦🇺
When it said only MRL 4300 was online that was good recipe for a runaway
BNSF ugly train's
brilliant.
❤❤❤❤❤
I think it would be fun if we got together this winter and a shoot together, a montana RUclips co-op if ya will.looks like ya hit the monitze milestone congratulations!
That would be fun. I have moved a little further West but not too far.
@DieselTech8 ya that's fine ,I'm not concerned about the extra drive time
@@MontanaDirtRoads I live in Elliston now.
Your 4 hrs from me, not too bad
@@MontanaDirtRoads I live directly across from East Elliston signal.
What I took away from this video is don’t get caught on a snowy hill with 4 dash 9’s blowing smoke 💨 and no EMD Mac or ace on the headend or somebody’s gonna be walking. I woulda just cranked the 5 emd helpers up and made that consist snatch a wheelie over that hill and stop jerking around using one damn loco helper on the rear when there’s 5 connected. But that’s just me lol
Glad to see you are still out there catching them!
Have not been out in 3 weeks. Then again since I have moved, I can sit on my front porch and watch them.
Next to the main in Helena? Now that is a fun idea!@@DieselTech8
@@BadlandNP East Elliston.
Oh that is a definite good thing! So, when do we get video's from the porch?@@DieselTech8
@@BadlandNP I am contemplating a PTZ camera.
I swear this is not a live video of me trying to start a heavy train on a grade in Run 8!
Howling emds
All emd power powerful
That was a nice spot! And even a horn salute to you!
