Gorgeous horses, amazing riders. Beautifully done.

Dressage rules!
I think the more bits you have the more confused you get but yes right fit very important
Snaffle bits DO NOT have shanks, and do NOT involve leverage. Please don't confuse people. A broken mouthpiece does not, in any way, denote a snaffle!
that would be the mexican vaqueros, the spanish vaqueros don't use chains
Holy cow!
Both are amazing sports that require great athleticism. Cutting work is also incredibly fun to watch, especially in bull rings!
Nice discussion on the pressure and release. If the horse is very accomplished with that and you have a good bond, then why use a bit of any kind?
Terrible music.
How can I get a copy of this disc?
I would love to see one of the inductees give credit to Margaret Formby who created the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in 1975 at Hereford, Texas.
First of all, why is there a curb strap on these snaffle bits? Makes no sense. Secondly, the bit is in the bridle backwards at 4:55. Third-Leverage bits are not snaffles. the word you are looking for is jointed. Such as the jointed GAG bit. And WHY are you promoting harsh bits?
Colleen, a curb strap is used to prevent the snaffle bit from sliding through the horse's mouth when pulled on with a direct rein. Any bit has the potential of being harsh in HARSH HANDS.
No it’s not,
I know Colleen you won so much and have made way better and more good horse then her so thanks for sharing your opinion.
sweet iron cant find a good one all look like painted SS
The dressage horse look so sad because it could not take off like the western horse
nice show!!!!
I love both I think both are beautiful.
Nice
Where can this video be viewed or purchased in its entirety? Thanks!
Good question!
if it has leverage, its not a snaffle. its a curb or gag
I wish the video stated the bit marker!
snaffle absolutely does work for collection. The horse gives in to your bits because it is extremely painful when pressure is applied
This is an utterly ridiculous comparison because certain basic principles are universal, in regards to how a horse carries himself/herself and where and how they distribute their weight. The dressage horse is clearly much better trained in how to carry itself and distribute its weight in order to make the ride more comfortable for the rider and follow its own biomechanics. You can tell just by looking at them that Sandy Collier's horse here is not quite up to that level. Disclaimer: I'm not trying to say that horses trained in western disciplines can not carry themselves in accordance with their own biomechanics and in a manner that is very comfortable for the rider. I'm simply saying that this horse is not.
dammitidontknowwhatimdoing blackandredroses it’s for fun so chill out!
Reining was meant to be more fun than smooth and comfortable like Dressage. It was never a competition between these two riding styles but rather a display of the best of both worlds... so sorry you missed that!
The snaffle bit shown in video at 8 30 is awesome dear
I find the presentation confusing. at the 30 second mark of the vid the horse is actually collected as defined by level neck, verticle from ear to bit and there is only about 3inch space between the front and hind hoof (meaing the horse is reaching under its self with the hind end. Then as soon as pressure is put on the bit the space to to 18" meaning the horse is reaching less under itself with the hind end. The horse also is stiffer and is over flexed.
@@lukethedrifter4622 Collection is actually the degree of flexion in the free joints of the hock (shifting their weight to the hind end) which is achieved through years of strengthening work. Collection is not shortening the stride. Definitely misusing the term.
great dressage rider!!
many Vaqueros would not agree with what he said about splitting the reins!!
😍
I don't see the need to go to the bit. One can refine the subtle cues to the horse through the rope halter and lead line converted to reins or through a hackamore as far as you want to go.
It is true that you can go as far as you want in a hackamore or a snaffle bit for that matter! The reined cowhorse follows the old Vaquero tradition in the making of a bridle horse, which just continues the refinement of the process that you referred to.
i do reining but would do dressage too its beautiful!
This is a great gelding with a big stop and a bigger heart. He's been shown in the boxing class very successfully and goes down the fence. He's sound, requires no maintenence and is priced to sell at $25k. Please contact: sandycollier@earthlink.net
I prefer western but thats just me
This was fun to watch!
