Yes it does need a gaff, but you already have it at home. You don’t need to spend any money.

I own this effect. No crimps, and no short and long cards. There is no force. The spectator has a free choice of any card

Hello jonah, it's really hard to say. I would just start with his semi-automatic card volumes , starting with vol. 1 and go up from there in order, 2 then 3 then 4 and so on.
