Attack of the Staph v9 First Ascent by Dan Mills, Palm Springs Tramway Bouldering
Previously unreleased footage from the film 'UNDER CONSTRUCTION' of young Dan Mills climbing the first ascent of the now popular 'Attack of the Staph' at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway in Southern California. Dan Originally intended the name to be 'Defeat of the Staph' due to the fact that he had recently defeated a nasty staph infection. Dan then began working hard on a more direct line up the middle of the face. Ben Polanco got the 2nd Ascent and the two of them believed the climb to sit around v8, consensus now calls is a v9.

@@brendan7109 awesome you were able to find it! So cool! I am not positive about the line to the left, I was watching the raw tapes and there was no footage of Dan or Ben climbing that side of the wall. Nice job on the send. I went looking for it today and couldnt find it do you have any more specific directions for how u got to it?
Hey @brendan7109 our buddy down below went looking for this today, do you have better directions than my outdated forgetful mind has? 😂
@@andrewmoore18yeah! So when you exit the tram station and are looking down the paved switchbacks, it’s on the left side. It’s probably 50 feet off trail at the second switchback on the trail down from the station (the first switchback that curves back to the right). It is very very close to the tram station and probably only a 20 second walk once you duck the handrail to get off the concrete trail. if you aren’t seeing it very quickly after leaving the trail, you’re at the wrong spot. I wish I could explain it better somehow but I hope this helps at least a little!

Thanks for offering this awesome vertical history, and just wish you had shot Scott Cosgrove on this topic and era and if you did, would love to see it too if possible. Cool to see Ethan Pringle at such a young age. I've been playing with enhancing old climbing footage I shot ages ago and while I haven't mastered it, think Topaz for video is cool.
