Yet we think we will wait till they think we are nice and kind and have seduced them with our cakes and cups of tea before we share some cosy notion of forgiveness. We are not reaching the lost with the gospel, we are selling ourselves, comfortable talking only of common grace, not saving grace.

Wonderful! There were occasions when I ‘asked Jesus into my heart’ when I was a child, but when conversion eventually came through the Holy Spirit, only then was I granted faith and repentance. I was given eyes to see and ears to hear. I was spiritually reborn, my dead heart of stone ripped out and a living beating pure heart was created within me.

Yes, this is often used as a copout! How many people have been converted merely by somebody's good example? Yes, our lives should ideally demonstrate the living out of the gospel, but we are fallible creatures. Without the preaching and teaching of God's word, which is infallible, nobody will be convicted of their true state which leads to repentance and without repentance how can we encounter the Saviour, Jesus Christ and be redeemed?
