It was quite snowy in Brixham in 1963 as I remember - my first winter in the UK. Lived on Wall Park road for a spell. Tobogganing down Cudhill was quite bold I reckon. Haven't been back there in 30 years.

Thankyou for posting this, John. My father was the last of a long line of Blackmores to be born in Brixham. His love of the town was infectious, and he'd often just drive us over there (no big deal, but 3 miles was a long way in the 60s!). Later I worked there, too.

I think I was as well. I would say this was earlier than 77. I tried to get some autographs at half time from the NZ side and the told me to f off :)

My mom and I are from Brixham and watched you video. We saw my Auntie Mary who was in the queen of the carnival in cow town. It was wonderful to see. Thank you for sharing.

Great Video. Yes much later than 1973. I came to Brixham 1977 and it is a while after that. Recognise Richard and Andy Forster. Where is Chris? May be Brian Caunter is there in charge. I would expect so. I can also see Phil Storey. Footage is a bit grainy but really good. lovely to see.

Hello John, this event was the 6th time the BLDSA organised the swim, not the 1st, which was in 1958. There were 17 men and 4 women started and 13 men finished and all the women finished. The male winner was Geoffrey Lake in 3Hrs 44Mins 14Secs and the female winner was Miss Elaine Gray in 4Hrs 3Mins 12Secs. This is a great video - but I would place it as 78 as opposed to 73. I am playing the bell lyre in the 1st Brixham BB Band, and going by who else is in the band I am pretty sure that is the earliest date it could be

I was a Woolworths Store Manager from 1995 until 2002 - mainly at St. Ives (Cornwall) store but I remember helping out in Brixham store on a couple of occasions and our district meeting was held here. So sad 😢 Woolies has gone. Thank you John for bringing the memories back. Great channel too.

The T reg Rover SD1 at 4:09 was registered between August 1978 and July 1979. There wouldn't have been colour video tape in 1968 either. It's an interesting video though - Thanks.

A great video but this isn't circa 1968. The date "1980" is on display on Neptune's Kingdom float at 3:23. This date would certainly make sense. :-)

I used to live in Brixham now I live in the south of France, not sure what's better. Too hot here in summer and too wet and windy much of the time in Brixham!
