This is our first year at the Ponies in the Smokies. We loved it & will be going back next year.
Since google is absolutely useless im working on the same car does the thermostat stay in housing. Is there any way to remove it from housing and clean it out cause im broke?

I normally don't get a code for this fix. Whenever the temperature 🌡️ needle starts to head over to the hot zone I replace the thermostat. Great video
And how long did that take to fix?
Excellent big big thank you!
It took me more time to find where I laid the ratchet down than to learn how to do the job. Great video! Thanks!
Useless. I know where the thermostat is. Why not drain at the rad instead of making all that mess? No mention of replacement part info. Have heard about aftermarket thermostats issues. And also no mention of the purple coolant used after 2013. Can’t be mixed with HOAT or will form sludge.
How much fluid drains out?
should you drain your coolant first or did you not do that to avoid having to deal with air pockets getting in the system?
I really like this video. Not too much talking. Short and succinct. I will watch more of this person videos.
Amazing... simple and knowledgeable. Thank you
I have a 2013 also, can you tell me why sometimes the door will start to close and then get halfway and start beeping then opens back up or wont latch to lock and self opens back up
Whoever did the editing for this video did a superb job. Hands down!
Isn't there a valve underneath to drain the coolant
LFG!!!
shoulda had it in 4wd part time... not 4wd full time mode. part time mode locks the diffs
Do you close the valve after???
Oh heck yeah, this video saved my bacon (metaphorically speaking)
High quality vid. Thank you for not wasting our time with a pointless intro and 5 min of talking about the job
Paul Rodriguez: " Where to baby? 👶 Lady cab passenger: " Nowhere with you!!" Hilarious & legendary!! 💘 🚖
My 96 just got 31s getting fitted with locka lockers$ 2000 overbuilt transmission can't wait to do this what a fun time
Dude, you absolutely rock. Thank you for not trying to show off your conversation skills.
Great video. Thank you
what happens if you don't bleed the valve after filling the coolant? aside from air pockets, does this cause a check engine too?
Good to know. I have a 97
TIPS: The bolts were little more than finger tight so don't overtighten when u install. You can drain the antifreeze by loosening the petcock on the bottom of the radiator (driver's side) but it won't drain until you loosen the bleeder on the thermostat housing. Don't try to remove the hose whilst the housing is installed. Wait until the bolts are removed and then u can pull the hose up and remove it (much easier). Last, the power steering does not have to be removed. Just unbolt it and lift it using a bungee cord so it's out of the way. These vans use OAT antifreeze with spec known as MS-12106. Make sure the antifreeze you purchase has that spec. I was in/out in less than 30 min.
My dodge grand caravan is under heating not overheating
Get it fixed. Only a 'no cabin heat' & gas mileage inconvenience. Not a safety hazard
@@firstnamelastname2111 I got a thermostat and it stop overheating
if you see a P0128 code it's low coolant temp, which means the t-stat is probably sticking slightly open and the engine is not going to full temp.
Haha I diagnosed mine with no scanner then saw this. It would get warm just a little slow and not quite to the full temperature and I was like it's sticking barely open
@@rugbyfan9417 ... in my case, I bought the car used about Nov 1st and since I was doing mostly local driving, I didn't have a clue as to where the dash gage normally sat. All I knew was it showed near halfway... and the CEL was on. A little reading told me that too long hanging at 175 degrees would set a code. Basically, it didn't set a code till the weather cooled off and I was driving to the airport, about an hour away.
@rupe53 yea I bought it last week and it dinged on while I was driving to work since I work nights it was like 60
@@rugbyfan9417 ... hopefully you got the WHOLE t-stat and not the rebuild kit. While it looks easy enough, the rebuild requires 3 hands, a few choice words, and a watchful eye for stray parts flying across the room.... and I have been repairing cars for over 50 years. Getting it out of the car and back in is a piece of cake, just don't crank on the bolts because the part is plastic.
Not all heroes wear capes.
Thanks for the video man . I have a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan . The diagnostic at autozone (fix finder) said thermostat issue … I’m guessing the new thermostat comes with gasket too ?
Thanks for sharing!
where do i find the temperature sensor?

hi can u explain the bleeder valve. WHy did u open it upon installation? Then why did u turn it with a long driver? My van after a long trip I sit and idle and the temp gauge rises to 3/4. Then drops the gauge an 1/8, then drops again to half gauge 1/2 and stays a little past half. Normal is a little below half. I think I need a new thermostat. Because you can see it increment. Antifreeze is full. Thank you. I watched your video thanks! Right now the bleeder valve is tightly closed.
Bleeder needs to be open while filling until antifreeze starts to run out, to clear the air pockets, then tighten it back up with the screwdriver.
Lol no cap funny and educational cause how the parts was str8 forward
Straight to the job....love the video. Thanks
Same problem here with a 2013.
That was it? That was awesome. Straightforwardness at its finest
Hello, what kind (brand) of coolant did you use to top off?
Takes oat (organic acid tech) North American orange
@@dalemccord2129 Thanks.
This is one of the best repair videos I've ever seen, no wasted time at all. 👍
Helen Keller! 😆 You definitely have to do the bottom bolt by feel. I did mine without taking the power steering reservoir off. I could only fit a box wrench in there. I still got it tight enough, though.
The best one of these I've seen. Straight forward. You are a life saver good sir.
Did the vehicle read Code P0128? Mine is and it is suggesting a thermostat problem. Then the other day it also ran code P0300 which is correct me if I am wrong a misfire in one of the 6 cylinders. I checked it again today and I dont see code P0300 but P0128. The engine does not overheat at all but I do hear a whiny sound as I rev the engine and not sure if this is because of a partially blocked thermostat..only way to tell is to just replace it I guess and run my OBD again.
I can't remember what error I got on a misfire, but on my 2012 there was a recall on the front head.
Awesome video, no bs, right to the point. Thanks man.
This for sale?
It was just sold. A guy bought it and my buddy was transporting it to his garage.
Thank you so much for posting! All the other videos out there for this are for before 2011 models. My 2013 RS door opens fine but does not close. I have taken the cable cover side panel off (which mine has clips and looks like you were able to slide that off?) cleaned up the wires to make sure no obstruction and now thinking I still need to replace the whole assembly. Besides part 72010-TK8-305 (motor) (@ $403) what other parts did you purchase?
Chris Nelson interested as well. Did you ever get this done?
