How I learn the history was: soka is Garífuna. Punta is combination of Mayan dance and soka. It called punta because it is said that the combination of Mayan dance and soka was created when the Great Lempira died. It said that they dance around his body from head to toe to celebrate his life. The dance it is to celebrate life the beginning and end. Each hand movement is either Mayan or garífuna that honor the gods.

For research dance purposes I can find more history about the dance in Saint Vincent? I don't see anyone doing this dance, as an American I am African first then Native so I am grateful that You've stated this. I would love to source this in my writing. Thanks. where are you located?

I’ve always danced punta since I was a kid and my family always praised me saying how good of a dancer I am but seeing myself I feel like I struggle the most with my waist and hips I want to move better and have more control. I hope soon I can be as good as you. 🙏

Some people don’t understand that punta isn’t sexual. It’s rlly sad how pervs can confuse our minds.
