How To Set Up a Wall Tent - Start to Finish
Просмотров 23911 месяцев назад
Start to finish falling a huge spruce, milling lumber to create a solid plank floor, then setting up the wall tent, with an internal frame. The video is obviously shortened up and it looks fairly simple, however... One day to fall and cut the spruce into 15' logs, 2 days milling the spruce, 2 days to trim off the live edge to produce straight planks, 1 day scouting the bush for a suitable camp ...

    Yellowstone National Park ecosystem was destroyed by bison elk deer overgrazing. Even the fish were gone (erosion of rivers) as well as birds. Wolves were reintroduced to keep the number of grazing animals in check. 10 years later the park was thriving every thing came back to life.

    • @GrizzlyCountry
      @GrizzlyCountry 22 дня назад

      Very easy to make. You just need an empty metal can, mine happens to be an OLD (like 30 years old) tomato juice can. But any empty tin can could work, and depending on the size you can get very different tones from it. Just punch a small hole in one end big enough for a shoe lace to fit through. Knot the end of the string, feed it through the hole. I put the tape on it to prevent glare from the sun. And I always carry a small bottle of water to wet the string.

    One important thing to clarify: At the end of the video, when I say I called Greg and Jordan for help. Greg is the foreman of a local Oil & Gas Operation. On the day I shot my bull moose, he was at work and for someone in his position it's simply not possible for him to leave the bosses chair and come out to the bush. Which year? I put together this video in Sep 2023. My hunt got cut short due to family situation. As to the different stories and calling sequences, those occurred different years, the one with the 2 bulls at 5 yards was probably about 1983 or 83. Listening to the cow calling solo for hours would have been about 1986? Calling the cow by breaking the dry spruce, same late 80's. Calling beside the cow that then lead me cross country, that was around 1989? Hope I didn't miss any.

    I wouldn’t be so worried about the high velocities as long as you’re not seeing high pressure signs. I watched your bolt lift and there didn’t seem to be any stiff bolt lifts and I assume you weren’t seeing any on the primer or cartridge head so things appeared to be fine. Were you checking what the manuals were listing for COAL, many times they’ll be shorter than SAAMI which if that’s the case that would make sense. Or you were making them longer than SAAMI because your gun allows it.Your high velocity load shot great (which is very often the case) and you didn’t have high pressure signs, that would be my load. But having said that I’m not a speed demon but speed does help in you down range ballistic performance.

    • @GrizzlyCountry
      @GrizzlyCountry Месяц назад

    Apologies in advance for the necropost, but I'd love some advice from the brain trust. I'm relatively new to reloading. Trying to sort out the best method of coming up with a starting point re: load development for .300 H&H using more modern projectiles, primarily for 1000yd+ target shooting rather than hunting. I'm aware there are far more modern, more affordable, potentially more efficient chamberings available (irrelevant in my case). Currently investigating the possibility of loading the Sierra # 2231 (200gr .308 MatchKing), a .715 BC bullet with a "sleek 27 caliber elongated ogive and a final meplat reducing operation", for a 28" bull-barreled .300 H&H Model 70. Single-round feed/magazine COAL restriction isn't a concern for me. What's the best place to start re: developing handloads for these older calibers when reference material is not available in printed reloading manuals? Should I go to Quickload for "safe" starting points? I'm just not going to find this pairing in a published book (I've been told one can use .300 WSM data as a rough estimate, but you won't see that pairing in manuals either, and I'm still skeptical of the claim in general). I also haven't found anyone with personal experience, as most folks still loading for .300 H&H are understandably focused on hunting applications.

    • @GrizzlyCountry
      @GrizzlyCountry Месяц назад

      Well based on the info you just provided I'd say you are pretty advanced in your knowledge of bullets. Which is about the best starting point. I will tell you though, I load for hunting and NOT extreme accuracy.I t sounds like you are pursuing a different level of accuracy than I attempt. As to manuals,,get as many as you can. I've got Sierra, Hodgdons, Hornady, Nosler, Lyman, Lee and each of those in older versions as well as more updated publications. I always start by referencing every manual I've got, from there I pick a starting load generally pretty mild and the Chrony tells me what to do next, as far as velocities, and adding powder. I don't mix powders. I will only work with one powder and let velocities and groups tell me if it's going to work. Maybe I get lucky and find the perfect load. If not then I'd try the next powder. And sometimes a bullet will fool you. Nosler Ballistic Tip is supposed to be a fabulous bullet, capable of outstanding accuracy. But I tried to develope a load with it, in my old M700 Remington, and I couldn't get that bullet to shoot, no matter how many powders I tried. It was spraying the target! I went back to my old faithful el-cheapo Hornady BTSP and the group immediately droped, which for me was a 5 shot group ~1" across. Happy shooting bud.

    Do you use regular alkaline batteries or lithium batteries? What are your camera settings when it comes to length of video and delay between videos? Do you have a favorite brand of camera? I like my stealth cameras but I also have a couple Browning and then a few cheapies that I don't mind if somebody comes along and steals them.

      I actually buy el cheapo batteries from Walmart. 'Best Value' name on them, blue and silver. I just use the preset video length on my Stealth Cams, they are the G42NG cams. I've also got some Covert MP-32's that I am going to start using this year. And some Tasco's (re-branded as Primos), which I'm going to try out. Great reviews on them. And I've also got a bunch of older Bushnell Trophy cams, which I have always liked. I believe the most important thing for good results is proper camera placement. If your camera is too close then it might not trigger. If you have to, create obstacles to force game to detour by your cams. I've built fences just using fallen tree branches and stuff like that. It can really help to frame your game in the camera.

      @@GrizzlyCountry yeah that was my problem in the past as I would set them about waist high and every little pine branch or grass would trigger the camera. Thanks for the info. I love running trail cameras, because you never know what's going to show up on them.

      @@FinsandFur-y7c Ya so I didn't mention it in my other post, but I position my cameras up about as high as I can reach. Like 7' or 8' high. Because I place my cameras as high as I do, I make small angle blocks out of 2"x4"'s. Because of all the bears here, I also always use metal security boxes. Screw the angle block onto the tree, mount the security boxes on those, drop the cameras in them. So the cameras tilt down toward the game trail I'm hoping to catch pics of. I'm itching to get out and start hanging my cameras!
