The best VR loco ever to grace the rails❤️
S311, the roots blower sound was exceptionally pronounced with the 2nd batch of S class.
Thanks!
Nice Video was this taken late 80 s cool mate cheers 🚂🚂💪💪👍🦘🇦🇺
Fantastic!
Wrong! This is NOT the Spirit of Progress! She was built in 1937! The reasons she was given that name relate to the atmosphere surrounding her time of construction! It's personal! She was built broad gauge and she remains broad gauge! The train in this video is the standard gauge version that had to be built! But it should never have been given her name!!!!
Can i use your footage for one of the videos I'm working on
Perfection
Teacup livery "B", blue "X" and ZLP van on back, who could ask for anymore? BRILLIANT! 👍👍😉
The old 1450 class were a good old reliable loco. The 1460 class drove you mad with their constant generator whine
This is still one of the best videos I've watched . . .
Thanks for the memories I worked the aurora spirit riv daylight for years on the south good little video
Wow the high nosed T class locomotives remind me of the NSW 49 so much. I like em.... I like em alot
I wish I was born in the good days of the railways so I could see a wide variety of different colour schemes on locos and passenger cars
Chugging . Dig that sound. Class 37 stuff ? Thanks mate
Cool thanks mate

Sadly you don't see trains carrying cars any more. My brother use to go to Somerton and examine the trains out there, one thing he doesn't miss is the livestock wagons LOL. It's now 2021 and Melbourne or Victoria for that matter don't manufacture cars any more.
Great memories, l pity the train examiners with the live stock wagons LOL!!!
Back in the early 70s a normal size block train was 22 GJFs with a guardsvan, and was usually a B and T class locos together. I am talking about the Korong Vale line. The GJFs are now named VHGYs.
Even the horse was interested LOL, now you are really taking me back in time!!!
That is the first time l have ever seen a C class going to the Kilmore quarry!!!
That is a film from the past, as G517 doesn't exist any more. November of 1999 that G class had a head on with G518 at Ararat. Both G classes were scrapped.
Out of the five, only one (2496H) remains. The others were all rebuilt as 2300s
What did he pass to the driver?
A staff. It is a safe working ticket on a single line, from one station to the next station.
Delicious candy
I moved to sale in 88 and apparently the line from Bearnsdale to Orbost closed the year before in 87 . Looking at the line in 1988 I thought it was still open but I was told soon after that it was closed
Sounds like she's cactus
No graffiti on the wagons different era
Delicious diesel flavored wheat
This is NOT the true Spirit of Progress! She was is and will always be broad gauge! This is the standard gauge imposter that had to be built in order for the journey to continue past Albury. I say imposter but don't misunderstand. The original Spirit of Progress is heritage protected, her wheel span can't be altered. This one was a necessary and more than adequate substitute.
Correct. I think only the brakevans were converted to standard gauge, & the emphasis was on converting Z cars, as they are better suited overnight travel that S cars, though some S cars were standardised. But none of the original Spirit Of Progress cars were, They have fully riveted sides & the internal paneling is a little different.
I had to go to Sydney towards the end of the pilots strike. It was a hot day & guess what they lost power. I heard that that power van had been playing up for weeks . It was the trip from hell, got off at Goulburn. Last time on this train ever. It was a disgrace.
I never understood why the hell they didn’t keep that original Blue & Gold colour scheme.
Because this is not the true Spirit of Progress! While this train ran between Melbourne and Sydney the true Spirit of Progress was locked away in sheds in country Victoria! If they had done the right thing she would have remained in service on the broad gauge Melbourne to Albury line and this train would have ran between Melbourne and Sydney under a different name!!!!

still impressive to watch in late 2020....and that 1550 class chattering over the 24s always loved their liberated exhausts
Awesome . . .
If it wasn't for the power of the mighty 'T' the train would never have made it!
Stfu
Ford train indeed.
Fantastic
Superb footage
Awesome . . .
Nere dunedoo I know we're your talking about
Wonder where Diesel Locomotives T352 and T377 are now hopefully still in Service or in preservation!🤔🚇🚇🛤️
T 352 has been scrapped T 377 still running now owned by Cube I think. Check out Wikipedia for the complete list.
T352 was scrapped in 1992...377's still going though
East Gippsland was and probably still is a huge Timber area and of course the Orbost Railway Line was the vast way to get it to Melbourne Used to see Timber Trains going through Dandenong Railway Station from Bairnsdale about 10-15 years ago!🤔🚇🛤️🎢🌳🌳🌳
Beautiful Trestle Bridge think it's the Stony creek Bridge quite famous on the Orbost Railway Line! 🤔🚇🛤️🎢🌳🌳🌳
Must be 80s due to the Tangerine Livery!🤔🚇🛤️🍊🌳🌳🌳
What year was this taken I'm thinking 1983-86!🤔🚇🛤️🌳
Such a shame The Orbost Railway Line closed in 1987! Still we have these films thanks to the foresight of these Railfan!😞🚇🛤️🌳🌳🌳
Great video like others have said. This was when the Daylight was like a small branch line train. Short in length, hardly anyone travelled on it, except for Albury and timetabled roadside stopping stations in NSW. (thanks to cheap airfares kicking in in late 1980's mainly), The candy livery that NSW went to was cheap looking and had nothing to do with safety where carriages were concerned. Just a wankfest basically. Spare Aurora power van looks so out of place in this video.. Yes I know, I am being over pedantic. I used to work on the Daylight on a regular basis to Albury and even passengers did not like the candy colours. The NSW tuscan original colour looked so much more appealing.
