I run the owners club of the Toyota Sequoia here in China with hundreds of members as it is a rare car in China.
Alpharex NOVA LED headlights on a Toyota Sequoia- How are they holding up?
Updated 6/1/20
The headlight lenses started showing minor signs of scratches and a tiny bit of discoloration. I decided to ppf the headlights and they're bright as new again. Nothing wrong with the headlights function wise to report.
This is just an honest, simple review of the Alpharex NOVA series LED headlights made for 07-13 Toyota Tundras, and 08-17 Sequoias. I was the first person to have these installed here as the founder of the Sequoia Owners Club in China. I was not paid or sponsored in any way by Alpharex for making this video.
You can find these headlights on Alpharex's website here

What happens if they stop working? Does it have a bulb to change?
To my knowledge, no. The whole assembly would have to be opened up and have the internal circuit board replaced if faulty.
I know nothing about cars but mine sounded really weird and kind of similar to this when my alternator and belt were going. Sorry can’t help more :/
In this video, the squeal is just the supercharger
Thank u for ur video. Any chance u could update the link please. ( if product no longer available) could u please add link to what could be the substitute

Se puede instalar faros 2020 en una sequoia modelo 2015?
Eric great review man thank you! HOW are they holding up? How's the quality built compared 2 stock ? I think I will get these for my Tundra !
They are holding up fine, no functional issues to report so far.
Will this light fit my tundra?
Yes
You would have to be smoking crack to spend $1000 on a couple of headlights!
YOU can rid of the HI beam gap by a few ways depending on manufacturer... Turn/Twist ur light/led bulb slightly or "if" it's an aftermarket LED it comes with an Allen wrench to adjust the beam pattern... "if" it's LED it was factory adjusted don't need to do nothing unless it's factory defective, then need to manually adjust it by 9 o'clock/3 o'clock position
Is it possible to install filter in wrong position? I presume if user can close 4 clips easily, filter must be proper?
No not really, as long as your filter is able to go all the way in and you're able to put the cover on flush, it's seated in just fine. Just be mindful of the airflow direction on your filter, and remember that the airflow travels upwards.
@@HeZhenliangtintin186 I did not notice an arrow upon install. But I did take notice of the build pattern of the old filter, and the fact that the underside was the dirty side. I drove a mile and did not have any problems?
I think that the arrow on the filter was pointing down before you removed it and placed it back the same way.
Nope, it stayed pointing up the entire time.
What do you do for work in China?
I'm a uni student. I've lived in China my whole life.
@@HeZhenliangtintin186 I see. You speak English as if you’ve lived in the States your whole life. I didn’t think you guys had Sequoia’s over there. The Alpha Rex headlights must be MUCH cheaper there if you ordered that many!
@@DirtE30 Yeah they were slightly cheaper when I ordered them as a batch. However prices have skyrocketed since, the current price of the NOVA headlights are ¥10.5k, when you buy then through Alpharexs' authorized dealers, which is approximately $16k per set (yikes!)
@@HeZhenliangtintin186 they’re about $500/set US
I wanna buy this in the middle east will I get it?
I have no idea. You can check for yourself on Alpharex's website.
@@HeZhenliangtintin186 ok man. Thanks
What wire do you cut in the DRL assembly to loose the amber glow for DRL? Looks great
There's a gray wire going to the flasher module, I believe it's the fifth one in a row or something. Just look up "Tundra DRL delete" on RUclips, it's the same thing.
Thanks!
Thank you
Pls there is shipping to saudi arabia?
Nice 👍🏻
Dude in another similar video said to have the air flow arrow down and you say up. That's why I like to watch a few videos before doing the job since anybody and everybody can post a video but doesn't mean they know what the are doing or talking about.
The cabin air filter cover (plastic with 2 tabs) indicates an arrow pointing up, so does do owners manual (P. 523). Please check for yourself, thanks.
I'm not saying you did it wrong but just letting people out there know to be careful when it comes to 'how to videos'. Best thing is to do your homework and make sure what you are about to do is done right. I believe you did it right especially when you follow the instructions from the manufacturers manual.
Great video. Thanks for this! Quick question, if these headlights don't come with a level adjuster how would one adjust the headlights? Are other drivers complaining about being blinded by the lights?
They do come with a level adjuster, I just aim mine rather high. As a Chinese person I must admit people drive around with high beams on a lot, so this is my way of fighting them.
@@HeZhenliangtintin186 thanks for the reply. Question, so I received my Nova for the Tundra and I noticed the cut off line isn't as sharp as yours. It's a bit blurry. Of course this was with the truck pulled 30 ft away from the wall. Just curious...how far do you think you were from the wall when you recorded this vid?
@@Nemesis74racer About 7-10 meters
The level system in toyotas is for when your hauling something and have more weight
You have to level any set of headlamps if you replace them and should level led bulbs
Man, some switchback turn signal bulbs would make it even better, have they held up still?
Yep, they're working perfectly fine.
These lights don’t have the sequential turn signal ? Also what led brand bulb did you replace the turn signal bulb with ? Thanks!
They use the OE turn signal socket and the OE bulb, I have no idea what brand the LED bulbs are, they were just the best seller on Taobao that I could find.
Good day. I logged on to buy my Alpharex Pro series on Amazon and realised the the manufacturer is MODIFYTREET www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084SN114S?pf_rd_r=H954PF9QWNJW692TGH03&pf_rd_p=9d9090dd-8b99-4ac3-b4a9-90a1db2ef53b&th=1 I expected manufacturer to be Alpharex but to my surprise both store and manufacturer is MODIFYSTREET. I stopped buying and to clarify. Hope someone helps me out
Looks to be the same product, just named incorrectly by an individual Amazon seller. Why don't you just order it from Alpharex's own site?
These look absolutely gorgeous man. Holy moly! I was thinking on installing 2020 led headlights on my 2016 Sequoia but these lights are a beast. I LOVE THEM!
The best thing about these is they're plug and play, no wiring is needed.
I have them to. The high beam and low beam can be adjusted separately. You just need a Philips screwdriver to do the job. Each headlight has 2 adjustment screws. The one at the very top is the high beam and the one that is lower on the headlight body is the low beam adjustment. I do say for the best high beam output you have to stagger the pattern. Basically the right high beam is aimed higher.
Lol all thiefes here
Eric, I am still admiring your truck. I have made up my mind to buy the pro series. Is your headlight assemlbly housing CHROME OR BLACK HOUSING. What is the advantage over the other? I am writing from Scandiinavia but I will be installing and using the truck in Africa where temperatures can 39-40 degree celcius. Thought chrome will not absorb more heat as black. The truck is metalic grey. Your input will be much appreciated.
Mine I believe are jet/gloss black, but an early batch which they no longer make. I think the current model is completely blacked out instead of having some bits remain chrome. Personally I don't really like the look of the chrome model of the NOVA series, but I think the chrome PRO series might look pretty good. Give them a try!
@@HeZhenliangtintin186 thanks Eric.
Nice video. How well does this hold? There are reviews that this takes in moisture so easily into the headlight housing. I wanted to go in for the black. part # AXHL-TUN07-PPT-FLB-A
It's been about 11 months since I've had these put on and they're holding up well. I would say the lens doesn't hold up too well towards scratches, which is why I would recommend getting the lens clear bra'd. I have had a friend's set of lights suffer from moisture issues, but quickly got resolved under warrenty.
Hello Erick What do you mean by clear lens? Is it the chrome option?
@@drnanang no, the lens.
thanks for your video, i was looking for something like this. doing my research there are two manufacturer model numbers for this headlight 880729 and 880727. i can't fins what's the difference between them. also one of them is available on Amazon for 900 not 980. any idea what's going on?
I think the two part numbers indicate two different kinds of black (what Alpharex told me), they used to make a satin black and a gloss black.
can you please share some information on how you transfered the headlight washer from the old headlight to this one?
@@MAD20248 It's 3 phillips-head screws on the bottom of the headlight housing, bolts right up to the new assembly.
Matching fog lights and tail lights?
I've switched the entire truck's bulbs out to LEDs.
@@HeZhenliangtintin186 link for fog lights?
@@tymom9313 they are PIAA LED Headlamp bulbs, specifically HB3.
that is one awesome beam pattern.
Can you confirm what LED bulb you used for the turn markers? Also, what did you do to get your fogs to match?
They're just a standard 3157 LED with built in resistors. I have no idea what brand they are, the were just a random find online. My fogs are PIAA HB3 6000k LEDs, with a smoked wrap on the lens.
Nice upgrade. I had mine installed since Nov 19. It was dope.
Hi Eric, thanks a lot for this video. It was really informative and helpful. I have also bought the AlphaRex for my Sequoia and I was wondering if you can explain me or tell me where I can find the information about which cable I have to cut if I dont want the turn signals to be on on day light (I also like it pure white like you said in the video). I want them to function just when I turn on the turn signal. Thank you!
Hi Juan, if you have a decent enough scan tool that can access the BCM module, you can simply disable the DRL function from there. If not, follow this video ruclips.net/video/5Vp4wjDK19I/видео.html. Either way can easily be reversed without any damage.
Great video. Would you be able to tell me what wire was cut in order to disable the amber DRL at all times aside from the turn signal? I just installed on my Tundra and everything says without cutting it, it burns out quick.
If you have a scan tool that can access the BCM module, you can simply disable the DRL function from there. If not, follow this video ruclips.net/video/5Vp4wjDK19I/видео.html
Do you have a link I’ve been looking at some online but you have to splice and I’m trying to avoid that
Splice what? Everything is plug and play
ruclips.net/video/CK27TRs9ufw/видео.html Hello, everyone, These “Morimoto” XB Led lights are 1000 times better than your Alpharex lights. I initially also bought such as yours (Alpharex) but soon had to get rid of them, since they do not light the road at all. I'm sorry.
After you installed these Morimotos, how have they held up over the past year? Thinking about some for my '12. Thanks!
@@mannlichersteyr3153 Good deal!! I'll be purchasing a set for my Tundra as soon as they go on sale. Thanks!!
I would agree with that, unfortunately Morimoto's aren't sold in China.
great video! ive been waiting for someone to make a in depth review after having then on the vehicle after a while. I really appreciate the video.
Thanks for the video. What do you think about the newer "TRD design" headlights found on ebay? Looks similar to the AlphaRex but without the 4 round headlight beams that you complained of. I'm thinking I might get those. www.ebay.com/itm/283825283455
I like the look, but I'm slightly concerned with what the output will be, and what the beam pattern will look like. I have two friends that own 2018 Sequoias with the stock LED headlights, and after driving their cars I've gotta say the beam pattern is no good. My headlights are both brighter and have a much cleaner cut off line compared to the stock ones, I know their kinda expensive, but worth every penny.
@@HeZhenliangtintin186 I think you're correct, I found a video of similar headlamps and the brightness is okay and the cutoff isn't sharp. My current $250 projector headlamps with Morimoto HID kit have better output. Now I really don't know what I'll do, I really like the way the newer lights look. ruclips.net/video/kcxQssGld1o/видео.html
Dealers charge around $40 dollars for engine filter replacement parts and labor as well, but for the cabin air filter which is an easy replacement as well Toyota wants to charge you $70! The cabin air filter costs about $20 in an autoparts store.
Great video! When you say “corners“, what you really mean is “diagonal“. Otherwise it’s great!
Great help these types of videos. Thanks!
It looks like there's another air filter that is built into the top cover.
thanks good video and helpful
Thanks very helpful
Or just use a skewer 😂 takes 3 seconds and with closed hood
Thanks for the video! It would be even better if you can paste a link to a new filter on Amazon or Taobao.
thx Eric
Toyota wanted to charge me $40.00 to change mine.
Wow! I live here in China and dealerships usually charge around $15 in labour to change an air filter, however a new OEM filter sells for something like $40.
In Brazil we take off in 20 seconds with a screwdriver
