Reminds me of when I used to live in Denver and got to go elk hunting 3 times. Wish I could have gone more. My first hunt got a 5x6 by leaving the hotel a 2:30 and hiking for 4 hours to the place on the map that looked the furthest from any roads. It paid off but it took 2 days to hike that big guy out. Also I was in dark timber and still hunted. Went a hundred yards in an hour and then saw his outline through a screen of branches, he trotted done the hill. I went to where he was got out my cow call and he and a cow came right to me. After some tense moments I shot him at 6 paces, had to look over the scope to see my aim point. Never forget that time. 2nd time out hiked a few hours over the back side of a bowl and followed a big bull over the top into a boulder field on the other side. Could smell them and hear them but it was too thick for a stalk. It started snowing just before dark and was a blizzard that we nearly did not get out of. Thankful for GPS, even the cheap early gen we had with only a waypoint for camp to follow back. Lots of deadfall’s to climb over in the thickest snow I have ever seen. Thanks for the show as it brought back fond memories.

I have hunted that spot for years. You will get used to people sanding around and hunting next to you. Unfortunately, with pulbic land, and a popular spot, it happens. Went up the last weekend before split, and they the ponds were frozen over. Going to have to go to big water, river, or fields now. Good luck rest of season.

I drive the same distance from the same state and hunt the same area , how do you drive this in 10 hours?

Wow, you got some great footage on some gorgeous ground. Looks like fun. I know we all love to be coached 😉 so here's a tip. If you can douse the camaraderie (to each his own obviously), next time try being MUCH quieter. And hunt into the wind as much as possible to mask your sound. If you can get even a few yards closer before a rooster decides to take evasive action, it often makes the difference between a decent shot & none at all.
