I cry during all the PMV. Really. Song is beautiful, Bristle is beautiful, Root is beautiful, Ivy is beautiful and Ash is ugly. I will read ALITM in 1 yo and half (french reader even if I will begin to read in English version 8th cycle, I continue to read 7th cycle in french), and I think I will sooooo many cry. I'm not ready but I have to, because I love Bristle sooo much 🥺💖

The vets were a huge thing early in the series, so i wasn't bothered by this happening to her. What bothers me is it's never brought up again. Ever since the first arc, it seems that these cats forgot about the "cutter."

This being so controversial is really interesting to me. I understand both sides, so I don't really stand on "the erins shouldn't have done this" or "this was okay." But I would love to see more topics that stir up such debate. It is a book series, not real life. These type of controversies make the series interesting. Not all plot lines have to be moral. Many other books explore such controversial topics and it should not be off limits for the Erins to explore such topics as well. Thistleclaw being a literal p3d0 is another example of the Erins exploring controversial topics.

I've been out of the loop of the Warrior Cats since A Vision of Shadows, but I do remember places blowing up when this happened. I would like to see more of the realistic side of wild cat life to be shown in the warrior series, but I think what made this particular event so viscerally disturbing is that it happened to one cat in the series, and it was a viewpoint character. If, say, cats getting spayed and neutered were to happen to one clan (or multiple or all), that could be a really interesting plot point. How are the clans going to function with Warriors who don't want to fight, a huge dip in birth rates, and the psycological trauma of CNR programs might bring to our sentient kitties. but it just happened to one cat, that we see the world through. Given the Erins' handling of disability previously, I was not at all confident that they would handle it well.

Me personally, I thought it was kinda interesting and then forgot about it. This book depicts gore all the time, so I feel like if you're off put by a few paragraphs implying a spay, you're reading the wrong books 😭🙏

Personally, even though this is a jarring thing to happen to Frostpaw, I'm excited at the potential things that could happen. This is an all new thing for the books to explore, a she-cat unable to bare kits due to being spayed. They have the potential to explore surrogacy in the books for Frostpaw if she wants kits later, maybe have a she-cat she trusts or becomes close to bare the litter for her and her chosen mate, or Frostpaw could even take in and adopt kits elsewhere. This is such an exciting new concept to delve into and I'm excited to see where this takes us.

To compare this to a human, take a look at Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff). Throughout marvel we see Nat mourn the fact she cannot have kids and feels very traumatized by the fact her ability to reproduce was stripped away. She has PTSD to the whole experience. She tries to act like it doesn't matter but it very clearly bugs her (look at her and Bruce Banner talking about having kids and she says she cant). Not being able to carry a kid can be very hard to come to terms with and eventually live with. Having someone literally take that away is so awful it's hard to comprehend. (For anyone who isn't into MCU lore, Nat was in this "program" where she was trained to kill. Each girl has a "coming of age" ceremony where their tubes are tied (or alltogether removed) resulting in the girls being unable to bear. This is because the big bosses didn't want their assassins to fall in love or have kids.

So does the UK government pay for sterilizing feral cats or something? Because I already don't like Smoky's Twolegs but if they're willing to pay up to get random feral cats fixed but still insist on drowning whole litters of their own barn cats' kittens.....just why?

Were it any other series I'd go "yeah fair enough, people do own cats as pets and it's important to spay and neuter your animals so they aren't suffering from heat cycles, whatnot" but these cats are just... people. They have been people with 4 legs from the start.

... I loved Ivypool's heart and then we got the wildcats situation and its subtext, which will make anyone knowing anything about wildcat history angry. (It's stuff that happens but should NOT have been portrayed in a book about humanized cat. And with the authors coming from the UK it's worse)

I actually really like this. I like darker topics in warrior cats and the jaring feeling of having a humanoid creature get spayed is disturbing in a very interesting way. Especially since its not mentioned often in the series so the unfamiliarity and the shock the reader feels from this is very reminiscent of how the wild cats must feel about it too.

I feel bad for sandstorm... Fireheart never really got over spottedleaf and sandstorm deserves the full love of fireheart

What is this series called? I fell behind on the books. If Squirrelflight became Squirrelstar, then something must have happened to Bramblestar. I"m not asking for the answer "Warrior Cats" but the name of the arc, sort of like the Power of Three series, etc.

I"ve participated in TNR here in my neighborhood, trapping several cats and getting them spayed/neutered. It was a good decision... but yeah I am disturbed that it happened to this character too. They are anthropomorphic and they have intelligence similar to humans and free will and such so it's very different than doing this to real life cat.

I’m not sure honestly. As long as the series takes the situation seriously I’m not sure I want to immediately write it off as a bad decision. It’s the age old struggle in this world of trying to be realistic while maintaining the fantasy world. It’s a very dark and difficult subject but especially in the world we live in right now I think some good could come from these books teaching their audience about how horrible it can be to lose your reproductive autonomy.

GOD yeah, a ton of black and disabled ppl were talking about how this made them uncomfortable because of the real-world situations that happen in which forced sterilization ocurs and the fact that these concerns were dismissed was so frustrating! TNR is good for real cats, unfortunately, these things are nothing like real cats and are intentionally meant to be viewed as people in the books.

It's sad for her, but it's not like the twolegs know the cats have human minds. I hope it has a plot reason, as it'd be interesting, but it's not really a big deal even if it doesn't

Well, I think part of the problem is even if you remove the humanization of these fictional felines that the concept of neutering is more divisive then it may first appear? For instance, cats are one of the most dangerous intrusive species introduced to any region. We already conceptually know that a biological life form is meant to reproduce as a way of self preservation. We have it taught to us that we're "Fixing" the animal, reducing cancer, suffering and sickness. But the truth of the matter is that regardless of the positives there is still the implication we are dictating the way an animal exists by removing a part of their body that exists specifically for reproduction. We collectively, (Though more so those who profit from breeding animals) caused the problem that made spraying so universally accepted. The fact that the cat is a PERSON in Warrior Cats only amplifies what is an already complicated issue, because the truth is, if we could avoid spraying animals as an attempt to reduce the issues caused by mass reproduction then we probably wouldn't. I think they could potentially tell an interesting story about bodily autonomy, that we as women experience. BUT....I mean if they didn't want to deal with the fire or the rather complicated implications of having a she-cat neutered they probably shouldn't of included it. All this is to say, feeling uncomfortable with this makes sense, but you also don't need to be an advocate because it's the lesser of two evils. Also your artwork is GORGEOUS, I might check more of your stuff out.

Moonkitti's video _"The cats are just people"_ covered this really well i think. The cats in this universe really are portrayed just as 'small furry humans.' That's the thing that makes this kind of detail so jarring. We're looking at them more like people who just coincidentally happen to be cats. If real cats in real life get spayed or neutered, its just a quick trip to the vet and a groggy meow from inside of the travel crate, while if that same exact thing happened to a cat in the warriors cats universe it's like... man. This child was subjected to a surgical sterilization against her will. That's like, gotta be a human rights violation or something. Hell, VickyHolmes outright listed one of the reasons these cats arent nocturnal as being because _"it would make the cats' experience even more remote from our own, when what I really wanted was to write about small furry humans with four legs."_

I have not been reading any of the books for like 7-8 years so I was kinda surprised its cannon because for some of my O.C. warrior characters are fixed because I wanted to play with the idea most barn/kittypets are fixed because it was more realistic, so for years now I've had O.C. kittypet/barn cat warriors, leader, and medicine cats that are fixed in my own little warriors universe and yes when clan cats were sent off to get helped by the people they usually(but not always) would be fixed and they were really shocked until an ex barn cat would explain what the wound was so I do find it very interesting how its now cannon

I kind of hate the choice because if it's attempting to make spaying and neutering more normalized for real cats, it's doing the opposite. I can easily imagine people reading this becoming even more uncomfortable with spaying their own cat even though it's beneficial to pet cats. I'm aware of the past anti-spaying message of early books, but that was not nearly as memorable as something disturbing like this; autonomy being taken away from a main character. I haven't read the books in a while but have been watching youtube vids about them, and this is equally confusing from a writing standpoint. Frostpaw being able to have kids if she wanted would have been a great route, and the fandom has always been exhausted by the medicine cat rule. I just hope they don't use this to try and keep that status quo intact when the warrior code has been getting amendments this arc.

there was a cat prior to frostpaw that was mentioned to be neutered by the name Percy a character that appeared in skyclans destiny so its not the first time it was exclipty mentioned for a cat to be neutered he was kidnapped by a twoleg got neutered then released
