Her voice had coarsened and darkened at age 41. You can see her struggling to reproduce her "old" sound. The crowd is with her, but if you saw her live at 16, 19, and 21 as I did, you know what you felt then (astonishment) and what you felt seeing this (sadness). We will never know if the healthiest regimen and no smoking from age 41 to 45 when she returned publicly to sing could have restored her voice. When she released her last album and did that sad performance on Good Morning America, it was one of the most disturbing moments in music history. Many pretended her voice really wasn't gone, but it was. It was like a bark or a honk. She did not sound like Whitney anymore. But bless her soul and lucky us that she lived during our time on earth.
