All that pandemic spending was literally the best thing the US government has ever did, besides WW2, in it's entire history. Both were costly, and both were kind of at the wrong time. But like WW2, it was worth it. Compare against all it's completely useless and worthless spending on things like the Korean, Vietnam, Iraqi, and Afghanistan War which was just lighting money on fire and getting absolutely nothing in return for it. Those things that billions and trillions were spent on is what really sunk the US.

Debt is an interesting concept. To settle a debt there is always the option of clearing the decks. This debt will never be paid. Someone, who probably doesn’t even care will just wipe out debt and start over. I think it’s called bankruptcy. Something that Trump is familiar with.
