CareersTalks
Добавлен 18 дек 2022
Hi, I am Tamer and I graduated from NYU with a major in Economics and a minor in Computer Science.
I spent a considerable amount of time to: 1) know what field I want to work in and the career I want to pursue & 2) land jobs in London at top tech firms as an international student that did not study in the UK. That's why I created the CareerTalks RUclips Channel, to help students that are in my position :)
Channel's mission:
1) Provide career insights by featuring experienced international and minority professionals from various fields, who discuss their job experiences, career paths, and workplaces.
2) Assist international students in securing jobs in London by sharing success stories and career strategies from fellow international professionals who have achieved this.
If you have any feedback please leave it in the comments section :)

How to Secure A Finance Job in London? (The 2 Must Do Actions)
Let people talk dude. They are the ones with experience not you. There’s a reason you’re asking them questions
How does this different from an industry group process?
How different is this from ECM process, DCM process, LevFin, RX process?
Is cracking the coding interview still worth it though? Planning to buy it
Yes
I think investors should always put their cash to work, especially In 2024, we'll start to see more market diversification. I'm hoping to invest about $350k of my savings in stocks against next year. Hope to make millions in 2024
Since risk is at an all-time high right now, perhaps you should be a little more patient and return when it has decreased. Alternatively, you can consult a trained financial expert for strategy.
Yes true, I have been in touch with a brokerage Advisor. With an initial starting reserve of $80k, my advisor chooses the entry and exit commands for my portfolio, which has grown to approximately $550k.
I’ve been looking to switch to an advisor for a while now. Any help pointing me to who your advisor is?
Just research the name Angela Lynn Shilling. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment.
I searched for her full name online, found her page, and sent an email to schedule a meeting. Hopefully, she responds soon. Thank you
She could've just said "manage the RAID log and ask for status updates". 🤣
Great content, thanks!
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Thanks for sharing with us
Happy that you found it insightful!
Just discovered the channel and I'm going to binge watch every episode. Keep the content coming! Great stuff
Thank you Ankit!! Let us know what fields/industries you want to learn more about 🙌
Video Editing is too low 👎👎👎👎 Edit the video in a good style. Add nice b-roll animation when you are speaking or explaining something. This will increase visualization. Put proper subtitles, effects, transitions, and colors in the video. Insert the B-Roll (footage and animation) very well because it is absolutely low in your video. Do all this and then see how the video doesn't turn out good. 🍅
You have a great podcast, with great guests and discussions but it gets absolutely ruined by the "mhm's" and the 1-word comments
So basically
I’m very interested to know about his time at NYUAD. Does he consider it a top school for investment banking? And what about the ib and pe market in the UAE?
Hi Amine, thanks for your question! I really enjoyed making the video. As someone who went to NYU Abu Dhabi and then worked in the UAE's finance sector, I can give you some insights. 1. NYUAD for Investment Banking: NYUAD doesn't have a dedicated finance program, but their Economics major with a Finance track can be a great springboard. It offers courses like accounting, foundation of financial markets and corporate finance, crucial for investment banking. The NYU Advantage: - Study Abroad at Stern: A huge advantage is the chance to study abroad at NYU's Stern School of Business in New York. Stern is a top dog for investment banking recruitment, and leveraging their resources during your semester there is key. Participate in student groups like the Investment Banking Club and attend career fairs specifically for finance. - Strong Alumni Network: NYUAD has a growing alumni network in investment banking, both in Dubai and London. This network can provide valuable mentorship and connections as you enter the job market. Remember: Getting into investment banking ultimately depends on your individual efforts. The earlier you intern in finance, the better prepared you'll be. NYUAD provides the resources, but your dedication and hustle will make the difference. 2. Investment Banking & Private Equity in the UAE: The UAE's financial market is thriving, but it's still smaller compared to heavyweights like New York or London. Here's a breakdown of the key aspects: - Market Growth: The UAE's financial sector is on the rise, with Dubai acting as the regional hub. - Deal Focus: You'll find a strong focus on infrastructure, energy, and real estate deals. - Deal Size: Deals tend to be smaller in scale compared to major financial centers. Opportunities & Growth: - Experienced Talent in Demand: The market has a strong appetite for highly experienced professionals (Director-level and above). - Early/Mid-Career: Training opportunities for junior to mid-level professionals might be limited compared to established financial centers. - Career Progression: Career growth can be good, but competition is fierce. Be prepared to work hard and stand out. Long Hours: - Expect to work long hours, similar to what's typical in major financial centers globally. Overall: NYUAD can be a great launching pad for a career in investment banking, especially if you take advantage of the study abroad program at Stern and network actively. The UAE's financial market offers exciting opportunities, but with a focus on experienced professionals. It's a competitive landscape, so be prepared to put in the hard work.
@@careerstalks thanks a lot for this info! I truly appreciate it. (It’s always good to see people trying to help these days) I am old (mid 20s), I have applied to their new MBA program, my aim is to get into ib or in a swf in the region. I think it’s achievable, right? Thanks again for making the effort to reply.
@@Amine-fo2qwmid 20s is not old hahaha :) Yes defintelty achievable several friends and alumni have managed to break into IB/PE or a Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) after doing their bachelors in NYUAD. Best of luck in your journey!!
@@careerstalks 😂😂. Thanks a lot for your message!
Great resource! Thanks for the information
Is math and finance degree for private equity or investment banking
A double degree in math and finance is highly relevant and beneficial to both private equity (PE) and investment banking (IB). However, its application and value can slightly vary between the two fields: Investment Banking (IB): The combination of finance and math provides a strong foundation for dealing with complex financial models, valuations, and transactions, which are core to IB roles. The quantitative skills from a math degree enhance one's ability to perform detailed financial analysis and modeling, crucial for mergers, acquisitions, and public offerings. Private Equity (PE): While PE also values the financial analysis and modeling skills that a finance degree offers, the math aspect strengthens one's ability to perform quantitative due diligence, manage portfolio risks, and develop sophisticated models for long-term investment strategies. In Summary: - For Investment Banking, the math skills add a significant edge to the traditional finance skills, particularly in roles requiring complex quantitative analysis. - In Private Equity, the combination is beneficial for analyzing investments, modeling financial returns under various scenarios, and risk management. Both sectors highly value the analytical rigor and problem-solving skills that a dual background in math and finance provides. The choice between PE and IB may ultimately come down to personal preference regarding the type of deals, investment strategies, and the balance between quantitative analysis and client interaction one prefers.

Is Investment Memorandum synonymous with Equity Research? If not, how do these differ?
Hello 👋 thanks for the question!! They are different concepts. An Investment Memorandum is a document created by the company seeking investment, while Equity Research is a broader practice conducted by analysts to provide recommendations and insights to potential investors. Investment Memorandum is specific to a particular company seeking funds, while Equity Research is more general and can cover various publicly traded companies in the stock market.
Here are more details: 1. Investment Memorandum (IM): - Purpose: An Investment Memorandum, also known as an Information Memorandum or Offering Memorandum, is a document prepared by a company or investment bank when seeking external funding or selling securities. - Content: It provides detailed information about the business, its financials, management, risks, and other relevant information to potential investors. - Audience: It is primarily targeted at prospective investors to help them make informed decisions about investing in the company. 2. Equity Research: - Purpose:Equity Research involves analyzing financial data and trends of publicly traded companies to provide insights and recommendations to investors. - Content: Equity research reports typically include detailed analysis of a company's financials, industry trends, competitive landscape, and a recommendation (such as Buy, Hold, or Sell). -Audience: The primary audience is often institutional investors, fund managers, and individual investors looking for guidance on their investment decisions.

The sales environment is wonderful. There are two questions you can ask ANY Sales person. 1. What is your months sales target ? 2. Have you met it ? If the answer to question 2 is NO, everybody else in the company is carrying you.
but he carries them when Big Deals are signed 😂😅
Very good point. Empathy is very important.
💯
Very useful, thank you!
Glad to hear that!
Just a quick one, when the banker was talking, it would be better if you just listened and didn't make noises. It was quite annoying for you to shake your head and make uh-huh sounds all the time. Other than that, great video and very insightful especially from an Evercore banker.
Indeed, very unprofessional. Also, dress a bit up.
That’s active listening to me. I think it shows that you’re following. He did excellent work IMO.

what is the book mentioned at 6.46 ?
The book is Cracking The Coding Interview by Gayle Laakmann McDowell
Hey, just came across your page yesterday because through an interest in Private Equity? Loved your interview with Fatih Haloglu I am a recent college graduate (FIU), and just got a job in banking. Over the last 10 months I have gained a real interest in Private Equity and would like to see how I could possibly get into Private Equity or IB. Would it be possible if I could ask you some questions for some level of guidance on what I should do? Regards, Martin Carrere
