    isn't this possible? Knightf6 check, the pawn in h7 can't take the knight because it's pinned by the queen, if rook takes then Qg7 is checkmate because the Bh6 is covering ?

      @@IPlaynani Sure, once the knight comes on F6 the black queen can capture it so it stoppes the check. Black is up a knight and white can't checkmate because the black queen guards the G7 square.

    • @lucak4013
      @lucak4013 2 года назад

      @@yaboilars no it is not Qe6 is actually a blunder and would lead to a draw. 1. Qe6 Qd2+ 2. Kf6 Qd4+ 3. Kf7 Qg7+ 4. Ke8 Qxg4 5. Kd8 … at this point white has only one pawn left and a grandmaster knows how to play this endgame correctly so he doesn’t lose the correct move btw would be Qe7+ and over a sequence of more than 25 moves white could finally promote a pawn and win the game with a mate in 7. But the Idea of trading in such cases is right. Black just don’t have to trade here and can give checks instead.

    Going into the grand prix, I was one of many people who doubted Hikaru, thinking he hadn't actually put his focus on classical in too long. But the day before the tiebreaks, there were still tons of people in youtube comment sections insisting that Hikaru wasn't appreciably favored in rapid. "Oh the difference is so small, it'll assuredly be 1/2 1/2 or 1-1!" Turns out 100 rating points is a big difference. There was always a *chance* for Levon to pull through, but Hikaru was hugely favored as soon as he drew the second classical game.

    • @greninjafw
      @greninjafw 2 года назад

      I don't think there is anything wrong with doubting Hikaru initially But once he got past the group, and then past Richard Rapport, you would definitely have less doubt of him pulling something off

    • @Marco..1
      @Marco..1 2 года назад

      I wouldn't look to much on rapid and blitz rating. In this game Levon refused a draw in a worse position and lost the game. Just because he does not care about his rapid rating and would take the slim chance that naka somehow blunders something. Many people do not care about there rapid and blitz ratings and there are also some player totally underrated in this format. I think praggna has or had a rapid rating around 2000. With this rating people will lose rating points for sure. The 100 points does not need to mean that much. Sure Naka won this, but on the other hand Carlsen lost to Duda in the World Cup in the rapid tiebreak. But nevertheless Naka was the favorite in lower time formats, but i would not trust the ratings so much, they are not really accurate.
