Jake Holmes, Willie Dixon and Howlin’ Wolf successfully either won a law suit, or settled out of court with Led Zeppelin for “borrowing” lyrics or musical structure. Could you imagine the Led Zeppelin discography without Dazed and Confused, Whole Lotta Love, or the Lemon Song? Jimmy Page thought the songs were derivative of earlier traditional works, and protected by Public Domain law. He lost that argument.

Great episode! Thank you for helping keep the NWOBHM flame alive. I believe that it was Geoff Barton of Sounds magazine that coined the term New Wave of British Heavy Metal. In speaking with many of the musicians and fans that were a part of the NWOBHM movement at the time, bands such as Gillan, Motorhead and Judas Priest were never considered NWOBHM bands, mainly due to the fact that they were previously active for a number of years prior to the movement beginning. However, these bands were highly influential and greatly supported NWOBHM bands giving them opening slots on their tours back in the day. Not trying to be a buzzkill, I just wanted to address a very common misconception.

We are all learning so much about Rush. And Manny.is an awesome teacher. It would be so cool to be in his class. And that’s coming from someone married to a teacher for 35 years, and whose son teaches as well. Keep up the good work. We are still waiting for the day when Cheech straps on the bass to demonstrate a key moment in Geddys discography.

Not sure who the most passionate bass playing Rush fan is: Cheech, or Les Claypool. Les played homage to Rush with the Primus tour playing Farewell to Kings in its entirety. It would be awesome to see Cheech and Les meet, and discuss Geddy’s bass technique. Cheech has chops. Play Jaco!

There should be a new drinking game where if the temple, or Mrs Doubtfire are mentioned, you have to have a swig. Doesn’t happen too often, but the listeners have to stay alert!

Oaks and Maples. Blew my mind! A little bit of Tolkien there? Tolkien loved the beauty of trees, leading to the ents in LOTR. Did Peart ever mention LOTR in interviews? Or was that too close to Robert Plant singing about the darkest depths of Mordor, and Hobbits and shit?

It will be a happy day when someone from the Rush universe comments on the podcast. Maybe a roadie, or someone from their management, or who knows, Alex or Geddy. Cheech and Manny are passionate, and so respectful of Rush, and what they created.
