Parkside drill charger broken - fix or throw away? #FixOrThrowAway
I'm starting a new series where I attempt to fix the broken devices.
In this episode I'm presenting how I managed to save my electric drill after the charger broke down.
Not a repair per se, as I replaced the charging circuit, nevertheless, without a charger this drill would most likely end up in a landfill.

Did FreeCAD 1.0 solve my problem? #freecad #parametricdesign #parametricmodeling
Просмотров 3,3 тыс.Месяц назад
In my previous video I was struggling with broken references when changing the value of defined parameters. This is known as "topological naming problem" and should be solved in FreeCAD 1.0. Now I'm checking the most recent version of FreeCAD - 1.0 to find out whether it is solved indeed. Enough of this dramatic clickbait - FreeCAD 1.0 is great and it did solve the problem. Parametric design in FreeCAD is the most common method I'm using for my 3D prints. This time I'm presenting PartDesign, Sketcher, and Spreadsheet workbenches. It took me so long to edit this video, that FreeCAD.org managed to release an official 1.0 version (in this video I'm still using 0.21). In this video I'm presenting you how I designed and 3D printed a phone clip that attaches to a tripod. I was planning to use it to film my projects. It is not a step-by-step instructional video. But the STEP/STL files will be made available. Soon I'm planning to release a training video on how I design my parts in FreeCAD. Stay tuned. Dartmoor Stream - MTB platform pedals overhaul

    You know, when changing some parameters of a sketch, the constraints sometimes get flipped and you end up with a weird shape? That also can be solved by selecting a different sketch solver engine. Default is called DogLeg and better one without such problem is LevenbergMarquardt (or just LM). I've looked everywhere and couldn't find a reason why FreeCad didn't make LM as a default.

    3:20 - I had buy different two sets at Aliexpress with the name "Heat Set Insert Tips" for this standard Chinese soldering iron. One set for 2,19€ (there is one inset for the soldering iron and five little inlets for the melting tip) the other with five solder-iron inlets and each of them had an other diameter for m2, m3 m4 m5 m6 diameter. Right now I am printing a inlet for my Stem drilling machine, so that I can press the soldering iron straight down into the plastic.

    In FreeCAD. for parts like this I draw the mounting object first ( in this case the stem tube). Then convert it to a sub binder. Then add the necessary offsets. Use the sub binder to draw the part. This method words 99% of the time. You can even use the postion tool to play with it and see how it works. 😁👍

    I am building up a 979 myself. and I am having problems fitting the rear derailleur. I have tried to fit a modern Sensah deraiileur and a vintage Campagnolo derailleur. The mounting bolt does not seem to fit. Do the Vitus frames of that period use a different mounting bolt from the M10 x 1 that fits later bikes? I know I had to sand down a quill steam to fit the steerer tube for example. I am wondering if the the derailleur hanger bolt was unique for French bikes and more specifically the Vitus frames of that era. I have the same seat post binder arrangement for the seat post. That is an indication of a frame built between 1979 and 1986 I believe.

    • @polishTinkerer
      @polishTinkerer 10 месяцев назад

      I don't suppose that the derailleur mounting thread is different than the standard one. I've simply used the bolt, that came together with the campa derailleur. And it fit without any problems.

    Hello Mike Did you ever get to actually ride your Vitus bike in an Eroica event? The reason I ask is because I see a mention in the Eroica bike rules about the only aluminum bikes "allowed" are the Alan bikes. I too have some Vitus bikes and frames so I am curious whet ever happened with you and your bike.

    • @polishTinkerer
      @polishTinkerer 10 месяцев назад

      Hi Jensen, Yes, I did. However, it was in Limburg, the Netherlands and there they are not that strict with following the rules as e.g. in California (that's what I heard). E.g. my rims are to deep by 5 mm I guess, yet nobody even noticed that. About your concerns - if you read into rule 6.1.a - Heroic bikes or vintage bikes HEROIC BIKES (or vintage bikes) are all road-racing bikes with racing handlebar, built up to and including 1987, both with and without gears, such as those built in the late 19th or early 20th centuries. These bicycles usually have a steel frame but rare aluminium frames are admitted as long as the tubes are screwed and glued (like ALAN type frames) and not welded. And Vitus tubes are glued and not welded. I'd say you could even get a carbon Vitus bike and have it approved as it is glued and period correct.

      I assume that at the factory they just tighten the axles without adjusting them. I've spent like half an hour adjusting those pedals but I guess one can halve that time if proper tools are used to lock the nuts. I have an idea of using a pipe wrench on the outer nut (the smaller one) and fabricating a half-round (half-hexagon in fact) tool to hold the inner nut (the larger one, with the race) in place while tightening. I'll try it out once I give an overhaul to those pedals. Anyway, good luck, once you adjust the bearings you'll be very happy with those. At least, I am.

      Are those still a flat surface but sloping? Make sure your frame is level. If the whole area remains dry you can put some "legs" along the stringers every 50-60 cm. Or you can support the stringers on sort of "moleholes" made of concrete mix and some fine gravel.

    • @niklasjohansson8780
      @niklasjohansson8780 4 года назад

      @@polishTinkerer yeah, flat but on a slightly sloping gradient for drainage. Saw another video where they used window packers. We're putting a hot tub on it so I need something that only just helps it to level. Will look into the legs, I know which ones you mean, like the concrete braces but without the bit going to the concrete. Unfortunately it's brick pavers so dynabolting it likely won't be possible as they would probably crack having that much pressure on an individual brick. I only hope to get 6 months top out of as we're in Australia and are heading into summer here.
