I always loved that solo in 'BLOODSTONE' off of the Screaming for Vengeance album. That was a true paint peeler and was aggressive as hell, as was the solo in 'Dissident aggressor' off of Sin after Sin , Good 'ol KK at work on both of those. Glenn always wrote a bit more and always had a higher % of of nice leads, it's just that KK seemed to always have the single best lead off of each album most of the time 🤘
Glen Tipton is a superior guitarist than Kk downing because he doesn't need to use the floyd rose lever to demonstrate his skills Meanwhile KK only uses the Floyd Rose lever because he doesn't know how to play without it and also Floyd Rose plays the guitar alone and a guitarist is not needed. My son doesn't know how to play guitar but when he uses the Floyd Rose people say he is an expert, a guitar teacher, a virtuoso.
It's even for me. In Priest, Glenn gave himself a lot more solo time, KK was happy to just rip away, with the exception of songs like before the dawn. KKs solo work shows what a great player he is. Unique almost sloppy phrasing where he sounds like he's fighting the tempo, which I love, plenty of melody and shreds and harmonies to die for. Glenn has that Brian May phrasing and melody with the addition of sweeping and shredding. Both legendary players.
I love Glenn but between the two I prefer KK. I loved his showmanship, his stage presence, his passion and aggressive style of soloing. Plus you can hear his influence in a lot of guitarist that came after Priest. Like I said I loved Glenn too but compared to KK he was actually boring to me...
Most Priest fans have been so for a pretty long stretch and have noticed how well the two compliment each and how thier styles differ. I've been buying thier records and seeing them live since they opened for UFO in 1978. Ivan only say that I'm certain there are so some things Glenn plays that give KK a bit of grief. The opposite isn't true to my knowledwage. But I loved listening to and seeing them so much....who cares? We'll always enjoy their music from then, now, and.....
KK was always the superior guitar player. Glenn was sloppy and held his guitar up like a necktie. KK, as evidenced by Painkiller, not only had the soul but was far better than Glenn technically as well. That's why Glenn always got 60 or 70% of the solos........ jealousy
If Glenn Tipton is the better lead guitarist, then why do most Judas Priest fans wish that K.K. Downing had been given more lead solos on the albums. The other thing is that when K.K. does a solo, you always are left thinking "keep going K.K." just as his solo ends.
I am sick of all the lame commentators who think they are complimenting Judas Priest by saying "one of the best". K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton are the best guitar duo and my favourite guitarists of all time, because they play the most beautiful, melodic, innovative solos of all time. They don't just play virtuosic, blues-scale solos. They play small works of art within the bigger work of art, which is the song. Judas Priest are the greatest (not "one of") band of all time because they wrote the greatest rock songs of all time. Go away, if all you can say is "one of the best".

KKs guitar tone is better and plays with a more abruptness in my opinion but glen plays some very complex bluesy stuff and more composed style, both compliment each other very well that's whey they're the best guitar duo in rock history.
Glenn I think is a more technical player, but KK Downing was the rockstar, with his Flying V and his long hair.

Technically & melodically Tipton is leagues ahead of Kk or any guitarist of his time! But together they made magical music
Glenn got most of the big leads on their most iconic tunes. But I always preferred K.Ks phrasing and knife cutting tone.

Their both equals to me. Glenn has a great blues style and kk has a great metal style.

Overall I'm a KK guy. But Glenn has great melodic and clean solos. Really dig KKs heaviness and badass rhythm playing.

KK wrote the main riffs to The Sentinel and got more chicks so he wins even if Glen is a better lead player in some ways.
