Blue Ridge Parkway Blowing Rock to Linn Cove Part 2
Part 2 of mine and Daisy’s day on the “just reopened” section - Blowing Rock to Linn Cove Viaduct. Our hike on the Julian Price Lake Trail. This is an easy 2.3 mi hike around the lake. The southwest side of the trail didn’t seem to have much damage but the northeast side had many blowdowns cleared. Many large trees, a lot of work!! #HeleneNC #hurricane #hiking #blueridgeparkway #northcarolina #dog #nature #autumn #lake

Blue Ridge Parkway Blowing Rock to Linn Cove Viaduct Reopened
Просмотров 43019 часов назад
4 weeks post Hurricane Helene, a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway has reopened. Blowing Rock, North Carolina to the Linn Cove Viaduct. One of my favorite sections with amazing views and hiking trails. While work continues in the most devastated areas, it’s important to show how much work has been done to reopen areas of western North Carolina (WNC). #northcarolina #northcarolinastrong #wnc #hi...

Today on our ramble, Daisy and I saw wild turkeys, Belle the Mule, Baby the horse, Jack the Donkey, a mouse (and wild dog) and a coyote that I sadly did not get on video. Overcast days late in the afternoon are always good days to spot wildlife out there. #hiking #nature #wildlife #wildturkey #turkey #horse #mule #donkey #mouse #coyote #dog #southcarolina #statepark

I was on the parkway yesterday 10/29 Beautiful weather 😊
It was beautiful weather for a drive!
I was thinking of you last few weeks due to the flooding and hoping you were safe and okay. Good to see you and Daisy again
Thank you! Things have just been weird since the hurricane. I’ve been waiting for roads & towns to open back. It felt disrespectful to enjoy life when so many people were losing everything. And it’s still bad but at least help is here. Hopefully it continues for the long haul.
This fun little rainy day adventure with Daisy was a day before the devastation that is happening now as a result of Hurricane Helene and my prayers go out to everyone affected.
J&M Produce in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. This is the 3rd year I’ve brought Daisy to take pics and buy Fall pumpkins and mums. Our favorite Fall produce shop.
I've been wanting to visit there for a long time and then Helene hit. Thanks for posting this. I'm so happy to see that it survived.
You’re welcome! And definitely worth a visit!
Looks sick
Oh God have Macy on your people 🙏🙏🙏🇬🇭
What a great video! Thank you for doing this! I'm here in Louisiana, unsure who to trust out that way. I am going to share the video and the gfm link. Thankful you are safe, too !! 🥹💕
Thank you for sharing!! Giving back is what it’s all about! Lord knows they need it!
My son is there now getting power up. Duke Energy
That’s great!! Those guys are heroes!! ❤
@Robin McLeod Ingram: This beautiful spot is close to Chimney Rock, NC which has been wiped out by Hurricane Helene. My heart is broken and my prayers go out to everyone affected by the devastation.
Looks so good!
Thank you!!
Looks so cool
So pretty 😊
Thank you! 😊
Omg it looks so real:)
This is the set for District 12. It’s an abandoned village in North Carolina. Henry River Mill Village.
Beautiful, greetings from Germany
Hi! Thank you!!
Hey Robin and Daisy - lovely place ❤
Oh my. I did not know you did the Highland Games in America..🎉🎉🎉🎉 as a very proud Scot, originally for Huntly in Aberdeenshire. Some of my family were in the Gordon Highlanders during the world wars. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yes!! Highland Games events are held in every state here year round! Grandfather Mountain Highland Games are the biggest in North America! ❤
Case in point: there was recently a demonstration ( protest) in London that women have every right to go out at night alone and that it was the MEN who needed to change THEIR behavior!!! We are getting a little sick and tired of being warned as though we were at fault! Yes there is reality! But the narrative needs to change too!
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Find a bear.
I found tracks 🤷🏻♀️
Carrying my 40mm and hiking with 2 alaskan malamutes always makes me feel safe from the creepers but anyone solo hiking should know how to use your resources and have the naturalist skills to survive if shit goes south. More often than not its accidents and stupidity that preceede these situations Vs being attacked by a rando so regardless if you sit or stand to pee you should only hike solo if ya know what the hell u are doing.
True that lol
Hi dear, thank you for this video, it is very valuable specially for a solo traveling woman. Just one thing, yes you need sugar as part of the electrolyte combo. You are right, glucose is not an electrolyte, but it is added because it fuels your cells specially when you have used too much energy hiking or doing any strenuous activity . In other words, you don't sweat sugar, but your cells use it as a fuel to keep you going (walking, moving, speaking in stress condition when your body needs energy ASAP). I know sugar is not healthy, specially when we exceed consumption, but having it in moderation and special situations is important as part of our diet to build up of energy for the cells and for normal functioning of organs and brain, specially when are using up lots of energy.
Hi! Yes, I know this actually, I’m a RN. My point was that LMNT does not have sugar as a main ingredient in their product & that’s important if you look at a regular Gatorade vs a liter of water with LMNT. You can easily get some sugar from a snack.
While there are some safety precautions people should take while solo hiking, we can say that about anything we do in life. Take safety measures against those situations that have a high probability of happening, and don't overload yourself with trying to be ready for every situation. You'll end up being over burdened or not even going on the hike (or taking part in any activity) at all. BTW bears rarely attack humans. When they do, it's because of past inappropriate actions from humans.
Bears on the AT usually don’t attack humans but careless hikers leaving food & wrappers at shelters have habituated some & these bears have become aggressive. I agree, though, sensible safety precautions are logical & wise! Some commenters would never leave their homes and that’s a sad way to live.
Hello 👋 my outdoors friend, greetings from Northern California. Thank you for sharing this most informative video. You did a great job. All the best to you. Stay safe out there. 😊
Thank you!!
hey robin georgia was bear get it done passin thru
Georgia WAS a bear lol!! I’m looking forward to NC/TN! 😃
Poor advise, women shouldn't solo walk period!
I’m sorry but that’s your opinion, not the majority.
@@robinmcleodingram7227 99.99% of females can't compete with an aggressive male, if you think otherwise, you're greatly misinformed!
I solo hike all the time in the PNW. Bring my dog and bear spray no matter what and looking for a good gps so I can send SOS signals if ever needed. Solo hiking is dangerous for anyone if they aren’t prepared for nature, but I’ve never had issues or felt uncomfortable with most anyone on the trail. Nature is for everyone :)
@@tabasco1992yes!! ❤
At 64 I invested in a SpotX which is a bit more affordable version of a Garmin...I've never used it in the year I've had it, but I am often hiking/walking alone and driving in areas without a signal. I see it as cheap insurance. No earbuds...need to hear animals/reptiles, love my hiking poles, I always carry bear spray (also in leggings pockets), always have a bar and water (lots...I invested in a Grayl so I can drink from almost any source) and always moleskin in case my feet hurt. Fortunately, I've never met anybody scary on any trails, but I know they exist...as with anything else it's common sense. I usually hike well established trails if I am solo and save the backwoods trails for when I have companionship. Happy and safe hiking!!
I have a Grayl!! I like it! Yes, all of that, we sound similar!
Congratulations and happy birthday
Thank you!
I have been watching some through hikers. It’s a tough trail. Good luck on your endeavors
Thank you for watching! ❤
Is your goal to section hike the whole thing
At this point, probably. I’ve learned a LOT over the last year so I’m ready to do a longer stretch. Maybe something I’ll plan for next Spring. I also thought about knocking out NH & ME then working the middle
What’s your trail name
I don’t really have one lol. Maybe one day someone will have a good one to give me.
Say hello to The Bear ...
I just finished Georgia on the AT yesterday. It was a 3 day hike to finish and I thought for sure I’d see a bear but only saw an Armadillo lol…
The BEST ADVICE Is To STAY HOME!! It's Very Dangerous Out In This World Today. People Can't Go and Do what we Used to Be Able to Do Years Ago. Especially a Solo Female. It's Just a FACT!!
Yesterday I finished hiking the state of Georgia on the Appalachian Trail. I never had one moment where I felt unsafe. Being prepared and self-aware is important no matter where you are or what you’re doing.
Don't go solo. Can't do that anymore.
@@clarkbrady2786sorry, not true. TONS of solo hikers!
Granted, I listen & watch a lot of true crime, BUT...there are common sense things you can do to help your safety. But, if someone really wants to get you and you're alone, there's nothing you can do unless you carry a gun & know how to use it.
“Nothing you can do”…. Please come to one of my classes and let me teach you what you can do.
May I recommend a book? The Gift of Fear. I'm 43 and the reasoning behind our safety and legitimacy behind honoring our intuition was truly a great read. I am recommending it to all women and both my teenage sons read it as well.
I'm a Canadian, and of the clan Little (Borders) and I was on a tour of Scotland back in '91. On a train from Inverness to Skye, I met a McLeod on his way to a gathering on Skye. He was in the travel industry, and I think he was living in Winnipeg. Wonder if he was here for this meet. It would be nice to chat with him again.
Hi! We didn’t have any gentlemen from Canada at this meeting in Detroit but now I’m curious who you met in Scotland! Thank you for watching!
@@robinmcleodingram7227 It was a very long time ago, but I don't throw anything out. I'll see if I can find his business card. I know I had it somewhere. I'll let you know if I find it.
@@dlittlesterthat would be great!
@@robinmcleodingram7227 Unfortunately, after going through all my stuff, I can't find it. Sorry.
Any kind of zapper may be enough of a threat to animals. They know what Lightning is, they know humans with Anything! In our hands are dangerous, what they don't know is how much Lightning can we have in our hands? To them, any is to much. Having a walking stick is a good idea, anytime , anywhere.
I am so sorry for your loss. ❤

Bigfoot?!
You never know, it was loud, lol!!
I sweat a lot as well. To keep hydrated i put 1 teaspoon of salt in 1.5 lt water. It helps.
I do too! I add magnesium & potassium as well! LMNT has 1000mg of sodium per packet
Is it possible that you are near a military base? If so those jets are the sound of freedom. They help give us the freedom to hike through this beautiful country
No, it’s Charlotte Douglas International Airport. I grew up by Barksdale AFB though. We used to see the B-52’s fly over when I was little.
Well done with the video. Spoke to John Macleod yesterday and he said we was amazed by the size of it plus, it's the hottest he's ever been in his life. And that's coming from an Australian.
It was a great weekend for sure, we were honored to have him here!

Proud McLeod. Great grandfather and my grandmother were McLeods. Love from Canada.

How do you deal with all the snakes back there with your dogs?
I’ve only come across 2 snakes while hiking. The first was a black racer, harmless and the second was a copperhead and she never saw it. She hopped away from the racer though, it scared her.
Do you take your dog on all of your hikes?
She goes on most of my hikes. I’ve taken her only once on the AT.
