We have been looking at a new CNC for the upcoming shop. Just figured we would do a comparison video. Both machines are great. What would you choose.

    We wrestled with this same decision between the N300 and N500. Ultimately we went with an N300 due to availability and needing a machine quickly. A few of the things you noted are things we didn't completely consider when making that decision. I wish we had a bigger drill block, as a commercial shop we occupy spaces in the drill block for things like locks and dowel holes, so we don't have nearly enough 5mm bits. Also the dust cap is super annoying every time and holds things up in a high production setting. One big difference to consider between these two machines is also the Z-height. If you are only cutting 3/4-1" sheet goods an N300 is great, if you are milling 2+" hardwoods you won't have enough space once you add tooling. N500 also has a bulkier chassis, more rigid and more accurate. I believe on the N500 you can also get a tool changer that follows the gantry, saving tool change time. N300 5x12 with push-off is up to $150k list now for reference

    We edge banded the ones I ran. The fly cutting was satisfying lol. We use to have small pieces get caught in the offload gates and eventually it would shear parts of the grids around the edge causing air to escape from the gaskets. Also had a programmer use multiple pocket routes the plunged instead of ramped cause the board to catch fire. Burnt a whole through the wood, mdf and melted part of the grid quick because of the vacuum feeding it. Shroud covered the initial ember and the fire was underneath. Operator only noticed because of the smell. Step one. Stop machine, step two cut the dust collector off. (It was inside the building) 😅

    I know you guys run some serious production but flattening several times a day is insane. Get some AllStar CNC tile gasket, pretty sure it still works with a vacuum clean head. Should last you quite a while if you're careful with the Z height. It will prevent having to re-flatten all the time. I run a 10HP Becker. Get in touch with Mike or Daniel, they'll get you setup.

    Hey lean brothers, thank you for these videos. My question : what is the smallest part you would feel comfortable cutting at full speed in 3/4“ melamine with the spoil board only ?

    • @rashesthippo

      I'm curious what their number is but in the meantime another point of data from someone who has the same machine, 4" is our limit on part width where we don't even think about it.

    • @ethanlphoto
      @ethanlphoto Месяц назад

      We run an N300 and cut 3" parts all day without any movement, We do cut 1 1/2" parts sometimes as fillers and they generally hold down fine if the spoil board was surfaced somewhat recently. We have had them shift on an old spoil board before.

  • @roberthoffmann7984

    Flashing is the correct term. It’s similar to concrete.. before it’s cured, the surface of concrete “sets” before the core. Same with wood coatings. When the wood coating “flashes” the surface of the wet mils has dried but the film build is still wet below the surface. That’s why you can still put a finger print on a flashed door.

    We just got the same machine at the shop we work at. It’s been two weeks and we are still figuring it out. How did you find the barcode format for auto loading the programs? We have a scanner but it just reads the barcode eg. The NC file name and we have to manually load it. Your way is so much more efficient. Is it a prefix or suffix to the code? And that label to pick the table side is amazing. Should I call homag and show them your video? 🤣🤣 Either way love you content. Can’t wait to see more!
