2014 Toyota Sienna - Non-Functioning Door
I have a ≤2 year old 2014 Toyota Sienna SLX. About 8 months ago, our passenger side sliding door was not opening with either the automatic door triggers (3 triggers: button inside car near the door, button above the center console / rear view mirror, or by triggering the handle). After the door fails to open, I would have to manually open the door - which is difficult and frustrating every time.
I have been told by Toyota representatives (not my dealership, who has not been able to find root cause of the issue) that the behavior is a failsafe mechanism. Is anyone out there aware of this failsafe mechanism and what I should do to prevent it from reoccurring?

I just had the same problem with my Toyota sienna 2021 side driver door. Please help
Our 2016 Sienna sliding door had the same issue. Had it diagnosed at a Toyota dealership for $209. They said it was the sliding door motor. The dealership repair costs would be: $700 for parts & $800 for labor. 😮🤦🏻♂️ Needless to say, I will be learning how to replace the motor myself.
check the sliding door child-protector locks.
All three of mine werent closing automatically so i suspected it was not a broken part. It was the power door switch. Thanks!! I couldn't find where itvwas in the 860 page manual.
I'm attempting to replace the Mayday System Module. It appears the the power doors run through this module and mine (Module) is making a slight whining noise. I'm down to this last option for a fix. If anyone has tried this before let me know. I will update if this fixes the issue.
Update: I got to the mechanic (with my door open still) and once I got there the door closed manually? It's just mis behaving. We tried the reset procedure below and it didn't do any good I was sure that would work. I thought I'll go to the hardware store and get some lithium and give that a try before heading to the deanship and get sticker shock. The door started acting up again, so I took it off the automatic and manually opened the door all the way and I saw below there is a mechanism that will catch onto the side panel to secure the door only it wouldn't allow me to move the door so I sprayed some lubricant on the spring and then through that space under the rear window, we just had some big winds and my car was outside and really got dirty, so I sprayed through there and wallah, working real good now. I will go clean the tracks better tomorrow and do a more through lubrication too. DUST in Arizona go figure! Although, given all the eratic door opening closing, probably a good thing to recalberate it too.
I have researched this quite a lo† and what I understand is if your door automatically does not open or jerks (you probably have something caught between the door and the body you can't see (†hat was my issue something fell into †he door pocket), which I only discovered once I forced the door all the way open but now it wouldn't close nor could I manually close it (wouldn't move at all) but when I used the remote it did beep as it would normally just still didn't budge and it's locked in place.. The problem now is the system needs to recalerbruated (reset). To do this, I read you first need to make sure the door is activated by making sure the power button on the dash is "on" with the red line showing, then go under the hood and disconnect the "negative" battery cable, wait 5 minutes and reconnect, next; press the open door button on the remote, then do it again to close now wait 10 sec, and repeat 2 more times and the power door battery is reset. I think when you mess with the door enough, it confuses the cycling calibration (programming) and needs to be reboot so to speak or reset. There is an initial reason the door malfunctions so you need to find and clear that issue first, then you may need to do a reset to get it synced again.
You sir are the man, had this issue, disconnected battery and tried these steps, working like a charm
that is real solution of my problem. thank you
@@aguzmanNY I'm a Mam!
Thanks man, this solved the issue for me.
You are the same with me happy I have 2013, the same issues Toyota Sienna
Did you fixed it?
@@salahalhalby8497did u fix it i have same problem
It seems that door rollers needs clean and greasing. Try that and also clean the tracks. Dirt on track and stiff rollers both trigger the sensor that some thing is in the way of door
Recall call them they will fix it for free
mine has a problem, it spends a lot of gasoline, I already changed all the spark plugs, the gas cap, even the gas tube, I changed it and nothing
Hi but how you fixed it
Fuck, look like no one who has a Same problem fixed this!
By chance you figure out what's wrong with the door? I'm having the same issue with my vehicle but on the left side. It was fine before I did the harness recall and now my door is like that. Please lmk of you figure out the issue. Thank you brother
I have 2011 same problem, does anyone knows how to fix it.
Our 2012 XLE Premium packagehad this problem many times, You just need to get to your local Toyota dealer and they'll fix it
Under warranty, or out of pocket or is it a recall issue?
@@trey1sauce165 It's a common problem
@@balinas27able that doesn't help, people should be able to do it themselves!
My 2017 has similar issue which seems to be electrical. We reset the door when this happens by turning off the power doors, then manually closing the door, then turning the power door button back on. BTW, the power door button on on the dash to the left of the steering column.
Did you fix the problem??? Please let me know i have the same issue on my driverside sliding door!!! Thank you
How did you fix it? I have the same problem on 2011 sienna
Is yours sliding door lock actuator
hi, any fix for this
how much dealer charge for this fix?
Hey brother this is Viktor from NY. I just fixed same issue on my 2013 Sienna SE. I just had driver side malfunctioning. The problem was door locks. This doors have two locks one in front and one on the back. In my case they got rusty and started getting stuck to the point when i had a hard time opening the door even in manual mode. Handle would just feel stiff like something stuck inside and felt like its gonna brake if i pull any harder. And only pulling very hard and fast still opened it. So the solution was few drops of oil onto the doors locking mechanisms. On the front and rear sides of the door, look for holes with mechanisms that locks on to the hooks on a cars body. Take this oil lubricating thing with long nozzle. Drop some oil on those latching mechanisms on both sides of the door. Put door in manual mode and open, close it few times. I keept opening and closing it like over 10 times to make sure oil lubricates every part inside. That will resolve your issue. Easy fix no need to take anything apart. I think the problem is when electric motor is having hard time to unlock those stuck locks and open the door it overheats and electronic protection kicks in to stop it and prevent from burning. Thats why door would stall. Try it for me it worked well. Handle become easy to pull like it should. Good luck.
This fixed mine, thank you soo much!!!
What would you do if the door just won't open, even in manual mode?
Another youtube video that offers no help
the safey lock is on one of the doors i had my van at the dealer and those moron turn on one of the safey lock ! it took me 2 hours to figer that out me and the serves mang got in to it because i had the vvan in to the recall work and didnt tell us that for there safey thay lock the door with the cild safey lock on ! I do Not have any kids why is that on !
Safety child locks only disable inside door handles. And those square buttons on the inside of door pillars would only work to close door not to open. Door wouldn't stall because of them locked. Selling buttons work as normal and door opens closes from outside as normal.
People! read my last post. It's extremely simple, there's a fail safe trigger that needs to be pushed back in. it's attached to the door lock actuator. look at the inside door well area where the slide is. there is a rubber circular grommit that covers the access hole to the trigger. LOOK FOR THAT RUBBER GROMMIT AND PULL IT OFF. INSIDE THE HOLE THE TRIGGER NEEDS TO BE PUSHED IN AND THIS WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
can you show me where is that trigger
Yup, I also need to know where this is. I've been to the dealer twice - it's just the passenger side.
Can you be more specific where this fail safe trigger is at I can’t find anything!
No that’s not gonna help😔
@@httran4405 open the door and go to the back side door you will see a rubber seal that covers the hole push the trigger don’t push it too hard be very gentle. turn off the switch for the power close it manually then turn it back on
wow you guys! I can't believe most of your solutions was to get a new Chrysler T&C. so I just figured out the problem with these exact symptoms. there is a trigger that needs to be pushed back in. it's not on the bottom rail as Kenneth states though. it's by the door lock actuator on the top slide hinge area. pop the rubber grommet off the door and push it in with a screwdriver until it goes click. PROBLEM SOLVED***
Justin, can you provide some pics or vid? I can't seem to figure out what you did. I have the exact same problem as shown in this video.
nope. It was my friends sienna. He's away now.
For now turn off the power sliding doors and take the van to a mechanic and maybe the problem can be fixed
You guys are pathetic only resolution you offer is to go buy a dodge? Good luck with that!
My 2015 does the same thing. Repaired both doors under warranty. Looks like I'm going to make good use of the 9 year warranty on the door.
Is there a recall or extended warranty on the door. Same issue with our 2012
The problem is within the door cable -ECU as the whole unit. The door ECU does not know the position of the door. It goes into fail safe mode until problem is fixed. In facts nothing is serviceable therefore the entire door cable ECU must be replaced to correct this problem. Hint Toyota only sells the whole unit! Good luck
there is a small trigger on the bottom rail that becomes uncocked, pull it toward the front to reset it .
can u be more specific please

Have you thought of getting an oddysey or a sedona or the new pacifica? They are amazing minivans too.
Hey, I ended up with a 2016 Town & Country that I purchased in Jan. The Pacifica looks really nice, but I missed the boat on that one!
I have the same problem with the same door Toyota Sienna 2014
After a long process, we made a settlement with Toyota. Nothing gained, slight loss on my end, and ended up going with a different van. I'm really sorry you're having this issue. If you live in Arizona, I can refer you to an attorney who helped with my case.
Did you try another sienna or a van from a different company
I went with a Chrysler Town & Country. I have been very happy with it thus far; however, there is an issue with a radio which I have learned is common.

me too, same issue.
I also have the 2014 Toyota sienna and I'm having the same problem and on the same door. Did you ever find out how to fix it? Thanks
I just replied to Ed E, I'm sorry I never saw this earlier. I hope you have the problem resolved!
