Hollister Hills, Harmony Gate volunteer trails, 01 25 25 part 2
A short video on the volunteer trails just off of the side & end of Harmony Gate in Hollister Hills SVRA. Please remember volunteer trails are not maintained by the park staff and often change and/or degrade, so please be cautious. If injured on a volunteer trail, it may be more difficult to get help from park staff due to location, etc.

Jim S. ('21 Husky 300), Eric B. ('20 KTM 300) and I ('17 KTM 300) go on a detailed tour of some of the volunteer trails on the SE side of the park. My Camera's GPS is freezing up, so you will notice the data often does not change, I've x'd out the GPS info screen some of the time, but I use old software which isn't set up to easily do this. Your refund will be returned with proof of purchase. P...

An almost 50 mile ride (The GoPro wasn't on for the whole & shows 34 miles.) in a location that I am unable to reveal. I was blindfolded in route and cannot confirm or deny any guesses. Dirt was perfect for 90% of the ride. Please refrain from guessing. All bikes were 2-strokes of varying makes and years. Camera: GoPro 11 recording at 4k/30 with standard stabilization on.

Dry, dusty & loose conditions helped in creating a few falls & at least a dozen times where I slid off direction from the trail. None the less The HHORA staff did a great job in creating a fun, challenging course & lots of volunteers where there to help if needed..

This is a long one, but the scenery is fantastic. The sunny sky is dappled w/ thick clouds which makes the lighting dramatic. The riding surface changes from gritty dirt to rock strewn single track to smooth miles of continuous rock and then some sand. Hope you enjoy it. Ride was put together by Greg M. (Sorry, I don't have any tracks.) Camera - GoPro 11 black 5k/30 wide view w/ stabilization. ...

I've almost been side swiped multiple times by people flying across all the random trails that intersect with the main ones 🙄
Harmony gate has so many little paths...❤
awesome man! i've been looking for a harmony gate single track video keep it up!
Great video showing all these voluntary trails and where they take you.
@@alfmetal1978 Thanks, all this extra detailed editing takes extra time & borrowed brain power. The videos also become pretty long. Not sure if I’m up for doing many of these. Glad you enjoyed it & thanks for the positive note!
@@alfmetal1978 thank you... Last few times haven't been able to get into Adobe...😟😟
@ I can't even imagine all the time it took and i think this video is enough for anyone to use like a map in real time with all the details you added on every single trail. I appreciate it.
@ Thank you to Steve or me? 😀
Great video Steve! I learn so much more about Hollister Hills when I watch your vids! Really appreciate you inserting the texts to show the junctions, as well as showing the map. Your funny comments really had me chuckling! Hollister is such a great place. Thanks for posting!
Thank you very much!
Above my pay grade but very cool... For the future!
@@jackieenx7085 Part two will be closer to main trails & be shorter runs. also much shorter video. Give me a few days to put it out.
Ha! Im watching this video gonna try to find some of these this week. Thanks
Had a blast. Thanks
Sure miss riding with you guys 😢
@@kenneychappuis1853 hope you’re enjoying life my friend! Miss ya…
That bike makes it easy
My bike? I just got a new carb and it purrs like a kitten!
What trails are those? I can never seem to find the places in your videos
These volunteer trails have no official names. They’ve been burned in over the years by regulars. Just keep your eyes open & either point your bike in what looks like burnt in single track or park the bike & walk it if alone. Good luck & enjoy the journey!
Thank you
@@jackieenx7085 BTW, my much earlier videos show exactly how to find trails like Troll & others .
@@stevebaum i think troll is above my pay grade..🏁🏁
@ I messaged you through Facebook/ messenger about an hour ago.
No place I’d rather be !!
Another great video Steve. Looks like a great place! Thanks for posting.
@@BigDogChopperRider Thank you , always nice to get some feedback on the videos.
riding there tomorrow and doing my research, thanks for the video!
Steve - you are so good about showing us the lesser known "volunteer" trails at Hollister. My daughter and I finally made it to Troll Meadows last year, and you played a big part of that by posting so many videos that we were able to study. Thank you for so many great vids! Please keep them coming! Take care.
Thank you very much for the kind words. It’s funny how we may never know the impact we have in others people lives… I’m very glad my videos have helped you get a little more enjoyment from Hollister Hills. It’s just a great park!
The Lube Room is a great place to stop to eat.
@Stevebaum - 1st of all great video! Assuming you used a GoPro to record I'm wondering where/how you were able to get the Telemetry (speed, grades, etc)
@@AverageDadAdventures Thank you. The app is Telemetry Overlay. They are on FaceBook. You can trial it for a few days for free. I have a GoPro 11. Make sure your GoPro has GPS, a few don’t.
@@stevebaum Thank you. I was afraid you were going to say Telemetry Overlay... sigh. Its so expensive.
I appreciate all of your videos documenting these Northern California parks and trails, not that I'll be sniffing anything advanced or expert 🤣but they're fun to watch!
Thanks for the positive feedback!
That was some rough riding, with some technical loos rocks and tight uphill hairpins - good job hurdling the bike 2nd part of riding.
Thanks, I wouldn’t have done it without you! I knew you had my back.
Where is the lower bridge of Trail #5?
I seem to remember a small bridge on T-5, but it didn’t make the video.
Not too hot yet?
We felt pretty warm whenever we stopped in exposed areas, and both of us drank all our water before the trip was done. The shaded areas were great. Dust was the biggest annoyance, I could not imagine riding in a big group w/ all that powder on the trails.
Looks fun. Pretty sure I rode there once for a don Ivan but that was a long time ago
Cool video man, I'm racing tomorrow the course looks awesome. Not sure if you want some unsolicited advice or not but I notice you almost always set up for a turn on the inside. You would be able to carry a lot more speed by setting up on the outside. (E.g. if you're about to turn right, get to the left of side of the trail to initiate the turn right)
Interesting! I've never noticed that. Thanks, I'll have to check this out on my next ride & see if I consistently do this or maybe it had something to do w/ the conditions ?
Looks like you found some good stuff. Great video. Hope to ride out there next time with you guys.
Looks fun!
Great ride! Where did you get GPS track with inclination data and how did you overlay it in the video?
It’s called Telemetry Overlay. The software isn’t cheap, but it’s well made & easy to learn . There is a FaceBook group if you have questions or want to see other applications .
@@stevebaum thank you, looking into it. What device did you use to capture the track? I’m using Garmin Zumo 396LMT, but the tracks are not very detailed (points are too far apart for the trail like this) and it doesn’t capture the climb/downhill grade
@@awesomedn All my data was fetched from my GoPro 11. You can try a free copy of Telemetry for a week to see what it can do w/ your data from your Garmin.
This video makes me want to enter this race

Here's a link to the flyer for the next race at the same venue
6:10 aye you can’t park there
Sweet run man! Do you get to practice before the actual race?
Unfortunately, no. This area is typically open only to special events, and no pre run is available before the race. Most people watch a few videos because the course doesn’t change dramatically & you can also ask anyone that went just before ( in my case the class B riders finished maybe 1/2 hour earlier.) It’s a fun race.
You should at least know the country and region 🙄
Yes, I should.
Where is this
I was blindfolded while in route.
Man that looks awesome!
Ridiculous...
1:09 why did you not help elmo
He seemed like he just wanted to hang around…
Just go ride CC. No one's gonna stop you.
Congratulations on your first place finish Steve, I was also racing in your class. Well done! Tough course for sure.
Looks very similar to last year's course except run the opposite way
Yes, a lot of this years race was opposite of the previous year. I didn’t see you this year Jackie?
Life got in the way.... Congrats on your good day
Thats me stuck under a huge branch at 2 miles, and laying on the grass at 10 miles. Needless to say, i didnt do well 😂
It was really slippery! I think I fell 4x?
@@stevebaum Super slippery, and so much dust. Your falls probably hurt, but you didn't act like they did. And you never wasted much time after falling! I'd love to ride with you someday 👍
The video is super clear and not a lot of shaking......what was your set up? Where did you mount the camera?
@@stevef8065 Thank you, it’s all the camera, lol. Camera: GoPro 12 black, mounted on the chin of my helmet. Video setting: Cinematic, wide view, 4k/30 and standard stabilization.
Never seen these trails before, is on other side 4×4 side? Maybe to dusty to recognize 😮
Yes, the GP track & very near the 4x4 area.
I was in c3 put my yz125 to work lol
Great video! Is this still considered a District 36 event?
I don’t think so.
I was there! Old blue and yellow husky # 813 came in 11th c4 class !
Cool trails. I'll be out in that area in a few weeks to do some riding while I'm waiting on the motor in my backup bike is being rebuilt. Ride safe my 2 wheel friends.
Enjoyed this video alot ! Used to ride Hollister hills in the late 70's but don't remember these trails. Would love to come back up from San Diego and ride this area again . I have the same bike you guys are riding and usually ride in the desert. Maybe come up early next year with my buddies from down here.
Promo`SM
some sweet trails you rode that day!
Outstanding! Those ravines from 10:30 on…I can only imagine the power of large amounts of water flowing through there. Thanks for bringing us along with you👍
Nice video! What trail did you start out on? The initial parts of the trail look like they were easy enough for my kids who've been riding for 5-6 years but don't take well to super technical stuff.
Sorry, I just follow & my guide keeps pretty closed mouthed about the trails he links together. This trail has more then a few really tough spots.
Does Hollister check for red sticker? I see you posted before it opened
Yes, they check your bike at the gate if it’s visible (open trailer, pickup truck, etc.) The Rangers are also observing as they go around the park. I’m not sure what you mean about ‘posting before it opened’?
@@stevebaum Because red sticker season opened on October 1st so I wondering how you went before
@@bry8505, the bikes in this video are green sticker! We are dusting off the red sticker bikes for this very weekend!
Thanks for the Renz vids! My fav area at Hollister. It can be so busy out there but Renz is usually empty. You guys were flying too!!!
