Au= "ah", "aw", "ah-oo", or "oh". Aubrey=ah-bree, aw-bree. Aubergine (eggplant) = oh-brr-jean. 会う (あう) Japanese for "to meet" = ah-oo or aw-oo. Au is common in French, so Ratau's name is a Ratatouille reference. Knowing the various ways French pronounces au can be helpful...and I don't know how to pronounce French. I think it changes by word, like in English. It can be Rat-(t)-ah, Ra-taw, Rat-oh, Rat-a-oo (like towel without the "L"), etc. Being named Aubrey, I read it like it's it's Rat-tah-oo, but that's not the same sound at the start of my name. It's just the Japanese lessons from my teenage years. It's probably an "aw" or "oh".
