Father Immanuel speaking of today’s Gospel, drawing a contrast between Christ and the Ruler of the Synagogue who misses the point that the Law of Moses. The Law was given to the Jews by God to help preserve the relationship of God with His people, not to be followed so literally that the Law His people one from another, and from God, Himself.

Father Peter presents, in light of today’s Gospel, the error of a law just passed in England that permits assisted suicide. It is the ultimate abandonment of the Faith and Hope which are hallmark of our relationship with Jesus, God in the Flesh.

Father Immanuel reminds us that the message of all this morning’s readings is our calling to be Christ’s disciples and to bring His message to the world. In the Gospel reading of the Orthros, Saint Peter is an example of one who enthusiastically embraces this discipleship, while the rich man in the Gospel of the Liturgy rejects this calling.

Father Peter reflects on the parable of the rich man (Luke :16-21) and our desire to acquire material goods at the detriment of our spiritual life.

Father Immanuel explains the parable of the Good Samaritan with the details that the Jews of the day viewed the Samaritans as less than human and that injured man as Jesus Himself. Jesus who was made to suffer at the hands of the priests and the Levites.

Father Peter tells us that today’s Gospel, written nearly 2,000 years ago, is more applicable today then ever before. Today, when so many hearts are closed to Truth, so many will not be convinced even if they hear the Truth from one who rose from the dead - Christ.

Father Peter speaks of God’s abundant generosity to us, and His expectation that, as his Agents in this world, we will give to our fellows of our Time, Talents and Treasures. Further, God promises that, as Cheerful Givers, He will bless our undertakings and return our offerings a hundred-fold.

Drawing from today’s Gospel which speaks of a possessed man who is cured by Christ, Father Immanuel reminds us that Christ is the ultimate physician of our souls and our bodies. And that through His Church, Christ offers us both spiritual and physical health.
