Will gained some major speed earlier in the week setting a new personal best in practice Thursday with a 47.2 lap time. Friday he bettered it and ran 46.3 seconds which put him 0.10 quicker than the winning kart from the 2nd race of the year. The first practice went very well and he gained confidence putting it out there against the top karts. The excitement is building!

Will the Thrill's 1st official practice session of his 1st season in karting. He's practiced about 12 times and ran with his Dad #54, Uncle Kevin #55, and adopted Uncle Tony #77. Will is 5 1/2 years old and an Indycar NUT who is starting his karting adventure. Future videos will most certainly have better editing, right?!

A tip it’s OK if you don’t wanna do it but when you go into a corner and when you exit the corner lean your head and shift your weight to the outside of the corners and edges to tip if you don’t want to do it it’s fine

Out of curiosity, what was wrong with the broken Honda? Looks like there was a Comer or two out there. How do those compare to the GXH50 at your track?

Hi, and thanks for the question! A couple practice sessions after Will set his PB at 44.130 his throttle cable came loose and the engine lost 3/4 power. Once we got it tightened it was only making 7400 rpm and topping out at 37-38 mph. A well running Honda GXH50 will hit 8000 rpm and 41.2 mph. The problem is you can't find new ones any longer that our sealed from Honda racing. Margay sponsored tracks are now taking Hondas and sealing them for racing, so there is some hope now if you need a new power plant. For our track at Mid-State Kart Club, the Honda is much quicker than the Briggs L206. The Briggs tops out at 38.6 mph and we have a very long backstretch, so the Honda makes up any torque difference in the turns sections on the backstretch. In my opinion, the Honda is just as quick through the turns as the Briggs as the Briggs karts have to weigh 200lbs and the Honda karts 150lbs. We tried 3 different carbs on our ill motor, 2 clutches, everything we could think of to get the motor back to 100% but it just wasn't having it. He was struggling to break 46.0 lap times, we even put the kid who wins most of the races in the kart to make sure it wasn't the driver, and it was the motor. As soon as we bolted the new Honda GXH50 on Will went 43.290 which was almost a second quicker than his PB. So glad we got the new power, we had to race 4 races being down on power and he still had fun, but he wasn't competitive like he was early in the year and when he won Race #4. He still has a little he can squeak out in turn 2 and the hairpin, but for being 5 we are super impressed with his pace and driving lines, we're so proud!! We weren't sure he'd ever get to the front in any class but he's picked it up really fast, and we practice all the time and do video review. He's in love with karting and Indycar racing as much or more than I am. Love this kid!
