Named after Francois Du Toit a 17th Century Hugenot who settled in the foothills. Originally used as an entrance into the interior prior to 1825. The road pass was finalised in 1940 and was built between 1941 & 1942 at a cost of R1,250,000 million. The new pass was built in 1984 but this is the old road.

Went down to Kini Bay for sunset photographic shots but the weather did not play ball as you will see in attached time lapse.

First built between 1942 - 1951 to replace the old and narrow Montagu Pass. Initial construction was by Italian POW's. Pass has a length of 13.30 kms and it has 40 curves and bends, most more than 90 degrees. Has an altitude variance of 581 meters.
