Any updates on this?
Great video thanks! I’m using that Extruder on CR-6 SE trying to print with TPU, but the filament keeps getting jammed. Tried everything I could so far, including retraction reduction to 0 mm, adjustment of the gear to the correct height of the filament inlet, reducing printing speeds, trying different temperatures (200-230 degrees Celsius) cleaning the nozzle and even changing. Yet it keeps getting jammed and leading the Extruder to be jammed. Any other ideas what could be wrong?
Great video and tip. I am trying it as I type this. I makes so much sense. Thank you for the tip.
What is the material of the conveyor belt made from? Have you tried using filaments that has a lot of shrinkage? Does it not get off the belt?
Thank you - had a pile of parts that wasn't exactly intuitive.
Happy it could help!
Wish you guys were still around im in the process of upgrading 2 ir3. V1 and am looking for a metal belt to replace the stock blue
Yeah me too but I wasn't making any money so I can't keep it up forever. The F32 belts aren't metal. I've heard mixed reviews of the stock blue. What issues are you having?
@@powerbelt3d they get shredded over time and I wanted to get something better for it.
Took 30 seconds telling me you were GOING to tell me how to get good prints, when I was already impatient and annoyed with my printer. Goodbye and good day.
Sorry to hear that. Hope your day goes well! What printer are you using?
where to get belts? the store is closed.
Yeah the belts weren't working out as a business and I had to move on. I'd recommend checking out Paul Chase's belts on his Prusa Mini mod, or Rob Mink's Babybelt belts.
Hello, is it possible to use this with Arduino and Marlin firmware? Thanks!
It's possible! The Marlin config files are on Printables, you'd just need to change the board type.
Glow in the dark next time!!
Thanks for the video!
thank you bro! strait to the point and easy to follow whit or whitout sound!
@@cosasdekuroro561 I'm glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this. I was befuddled because the M3 bolts thread into that spring tensioner that is only placed on the M4 bolt, until I watched your video closely and realized you were not threading it on the M4 bolt. I wasted about 20 minutes wondering if they had put the wrong parts in the kit, and then 2 hours adjusting the orientation and assembling and disassembling, only to find that of the two motors I had ready, one was too short and the other had no flats. Luckily I was able to find one from my other printer that was not in use. Ugghhh
@@groggynod sounds frustrating - we've all been there! Happy the video could help a bit
I'm having somewhat of the same problem. It seems the rod that comes out of the motor isn't long enough to get the grub screw to tighten down on it...@@powerbelt3d
is it possilble to follow the same process for a cr10 Smart build voulme 300x300x400.? any issuse with Marlin or updating firmware?
I just found this project and it looks amazing, and have an E3P collecting dust. But your shop seems to be sold out of belt. Any idea if you will getting anymore in? Thanks!
The two washers go top and bottom of the idler gear to prevent it wearing out the base metal. Also, AFTER assembling all parts except the spring: 1: Put the M3/4 screw PARTLY in but not showing. 2: Put the spring onto the screw on the adjustment lever. 3: put the the adjustment "hat" into the end if the spring. 4: Compress the spring into position with the "hat" now over the hole for the adjustment screw. 5: screw in the adjustment screw. Basically, you did it ass backwards.
What material is the conveyor belt made of?
Hey I was thinking of doing this mod but wanted to know if theres a way to do it using a direct drive extruder setup rather than a bowden? Love the build btw.
Is that an upgraded hotend mount?
Ive got a spare ender 3 s1, would this be a possible conversion on that printer?
All my eleven of ender 3s have shorter extruder shafts.
what did you use to clean up those models from google?
Would locomotives be a good job for these type of 3d printers?
Like a model of a locomotive?
how tight the bolt in the spring makes a difference ?
For more 'standard' filaments, it doesn't make a huge difference as long as there's some pressure on the filament. If you start printing softer TPU filaments, you might need more/less tension.
This just shows that these big companies can make the tools we need, but aren’t doing them affordably for some reason. I hope I’m wrong and a hail marry miracle will happen from the likes of say Elegoo as I don’t feel confident in buying another 3d printer just to butcher into a belt printer.
The DIY route isn't for everyone, nothing to be ashamed of! I think the off-the-shelf options have come down a bit in price.. I'm seeing the IdeaFormer IR3 for $550 today.
@@powerbelt3d Thanks for understanding. 👍
Hi, I like the model you made, can you make a video on assembly which will be more helpful for us thanks in advance
I've considered it, but once a video is published it can't be modified - a PDF on Printables I can update any time with best practices. Plus it's a lot of work to film and edit things clearly while building.
What would cause clicking? It only happdns once in awhile.
It could be a handful of things. My best guess is that the tension is set too tight.
@powerbelt3d I adjusted that to either tight to loose. Still does it, but only when retracting during infill. Then stops when it's regularly doing a outer layer.
@@smallnuts2 If that's the case, I'd recommend slowing down your infill speed :)
Hello, I want to purchase your powerbelt but I have several questions. Do I need to modify the firmware to get conveyor belt to turn or is it using one of the axis ?
Hey there! You can use the firmware available on Printables and flash it to a BTT SKR Mini V2. Or you can compile it yourself for any board - there's another video on the channel on 3 simple changes you need to make. It turns the Z axis into the belt axis.
Hallo, that is very cool, Do you have a beltprinter with direct extrusion?
your a cool dude
Great video. It helped me get mine changed quickly instead of trial and error
@@toad4196 happy it was helpful!
How you get a cheap belt printer? Would be cool to have.
Hello ! Adam, I'm Jerry, I live in Brazil I don't really understand the sofit part But I've already managed to do all 3 things in Visual Studio code. How do I copy it to the Ender 3 Pro board?
hi will it work in that way if rather tilting gantry at 45 degree, tilt only extruder at 45 degree? thank you
Mechanically - yes. However, to my knowledge, a slicer for that setup doesn't exist. You would need X, Y, and Z to all more in sync to print every layer.
There's an app that's a pulley and gear generator. It works really good for fingering reductions or multiplying between drive and driven objects. I don't know why but this is something my brain does with ease. I did a really quick chek on my Z movement by placing two pieces of tape 100 mm apart on the side of the bed. The first piece of tape I cut with a exacto knife so the alignment was perfect. I then simply want to movements and advanced the z 100mm then re measured it. The biggest issues ive had was yhe bed being level on the Z axis and belt deflection on tall parts with a small base . I've almost considered a small idler roller or even a plate just in front of the print head . The plate seems asif it would be batter because it could be super close to the nozzle, but there would be additional friction on the belt . A roller even at 1/2-3/4" diamater wouldn't get as close to the nozzle but would allow for little to no added strain on the Z stepper motor.
I've played with rollers as low as 8mm. The increased torque and Z resolution is really nice. However, smaller rollers wear out belts faster due to the increased bend. They also tend to be more difficult to tension perfectly to prevent the belt walking side-to-side. Pros and Cons. :)
I just got an IdeaFormer IR3 V1 which is actually the 2nd version. A project I'm working on is a Christmas ornament so basically a ball on a ring. I get a little roughness where the ball and ring meet on the front, I think this could be easily fixed with a small support. I get a circular layer lines at about 2/3 the way to the top on the back or nozzle side, much like a traditional printer would on the top of a ball . I'm curious if more shells/layers or a bit tighter layer height might help. What has amazed me is the lack of layer lines. I'm running the stock .4 nozzle at .2 layers and the lines are all but non existent. The printer also came with.6, .8 and 1.0 nozzles I've yet to try . I'm loving your videos and how you explain everything. I can't wait to apply some of your hacks to make prints faster and or stronger. Thanks for the videos and your insight 👍
Agree - a little support at the start of the print could help with leading edge roughness. I think you're describing 'stair stepping' on the rounded surface. This is decreased with angled belt printing but not for all models. Smaller layer heights should help with that, or rotating the model a bit.
Thank you for your help. Do you know how to use the bltouch as probe for the Y-axis(along 45° angle)?
I do not, but if you're able to figure it out, I'd love to know!
Could never get my CR-30 working
How would I install direct drive on this? I love the design 11/10
Thank you! Direct drive should be possible with many of the existing Ender3 mods out there. Thankfully I haven't had a need for it, even when printing TPU.
@@powerbelt3d is it possible to keep the gantry at 90 degrees? That's what I want to do. Looks like I could do that just by looking. What do you think?
Layer hiding, but the koala has some mad ringing. Otherwise very nice
Hi, i have an original cr10...with this upgrade do i need to recalibrate the e steps on the extruder motor plz?
Yep! If I remember right, you'll need to increase E-steps around 20%
