For anyone struggling with matting, try using a detangling spray or conditioner before you start grooming. It can make a big difference in loosening knots and preventing further matting! What tips do you have for dealing with matting? I’d love to hear your experiences!

Lol, every time I was about to ask a question, you answered..First the powder, then the plucking. I had no idea about water to lungs from their little nose. I hope everyone who has these breeds knows that.

So glad you showed the face being washed i am terrified of my little girl getting water in her nose … i have been using a ketch up bottle with the small spout so i can accurately get the water where i want and not in her nose

Most groomers can only DREAM of having a pup as well behaved as he was,esp for his first groom! Good job!

Don’t worry about the criticizing questions. I’ve watched you enough to know you’re very careful to not bring unnecessary stress/trauma to the dog. You explained very well what you do & why you do it. Unless you’re a groomer & have been doing it as long as you have, you don’t understand that some dogs clearly have learned how to manipulate people/pet parents/groomers to get what they want or to get you to stop doing whatever it is they don’t like. I have heard other groomers refer to that behavior as “evasion techniques.”

Great job so many knots but looked beautiful in the end ….i have been looking at 2 sprays the wahl detangling spray and the tropiclean tangle remover i was wondering which you think is best my dog has no knots i mainly want it as a leave in conditioner and just incase she gets a knot in the future

Sorry i missed the live stream yesterday my little dog had to go to the vets she wasn’t well …. I love cotton de tulear there beautiful dogs .. i had a hard time setting getting rid of the tear stains i clean them every day now and add powder her stains are completely gone now i do agree that it has to be done everyday to keep it clean and dry great job as always

Okay. I admit it. I have watched Elizabeth Jenn before & I also love Shih Tzus: they are my favorite breed. However, Elizabeth Jenn is truly an outstanding Dog Groomer. Her techniques are wonderful & she is obviously very skilled. I have seen her groom many dogs. She is methodical & compassionate with all dogs. She wants to complete the job, but never at the expense of injuring any dog. And, she knows the history of many breeds. You can learn so much from watching her work. The Shih Tzu is a sweet, adorable dog. But, they can be difficult sometimes. When Lucky did not want certain things done, Liz did her best to complete various parts of the groom, but, eventually moved on & worked on other areas. That is a smart thing to do. Liz will always try to complete a groom & do what the owners ask her to do. In this case, she was dealing with a young dog that was not 100% cooperative. At some point, she chose to stop the groom. But, Lucky still looked very nice & Liz demonstrated her knowledge of the Shih Tzu historically as well as professionally. RUclips made a very wise choice allowing Liz to showcase her intelligence & techniques when it comes to Dog Grooming!!! 30:40

What is your preference for de matting tools? My Coton has large mats on his body and feet. I have the Safari Demat comb which has large sharp tines that can break up some larger mats but then left with the smaller ones to deal with...I suppose a slicker might pull these out. Will I win if I try to brush them out or, is it a no win situation and probably requires shaving? I was going to buy a Les Poochs Matt Zapper, don't know if you are aware of this product. Another dog groomer said not to use it, because it would pull too much on the dogs coat. Yet another groomer said he loved it and demo'd it on a dog with somewhat similar hair...the other option is a good slicker brush...I tried the Chris Christensen Big G quite a while ago when the dog was in the puppy stage but it seemed to hard to pull through his hair then. I have a slicker but I think now that the pins are too short....My Coton is now he is 1.5 years old.
