The Mopar guys I knew in the 70s and 80s preferred the 440 over the hemi. The main reason, hemis were a pain in the ass to keep tuned. But with a little bit of tuning the 440-6pack would run with the hemi without messing around with it every Saturday in your driveway.

Those exhaust manifolds are wild. Amazing the lengths they went to in fitting equal-length runners and header-like collectors into those B-body engine compartments.

The 440 six pack also had a three bolt cam gear like the hemi. All other 440s had a single bolt cam gear.

All 440 six packs had 3.91 gears standard. The standard gearing in street hemis was 3.23. This is pretty much the reason for higher ets for road tested street hemis compared to the 440 six pack cars.

My son Nick has a 1971 Dodge Coronet, 4 door sedan still wearing its factory applied EV2 Hemi Orange paint. Interestingly it has a dealer applied "two tone" Spinacher White roof. It has only one paint code on the fender tag for the EV2 Orange. The car has all the correct stainless trim around the base of the roof as if it would have had a vinyl roof or factory two tone. Learned from the original owner that when they purchased it from a Texas Dodge Dealer back in 1971 they requested the two tone roof to break up all that Hemi Orange paint. The car looked really great as it is but I think I would have kept it all Orange. Kinda neat seeing a 4 door sedan in this color. Typically they were various shades of green, gold, brown, maybe blue. The car was born with a 318. It now has a built up 360 with Eddy heads, LD340 intake, Purple Shaft cam, solid lifters, adjustable 273 rocker arms, headers, Built 904, high stall converter, and original 8.75 rear end with 3.91 sure grip. The car ran a best of 12.7 piloted by the late Frank Crawford of Kiski Valley South Western PA.

My first car was a 1972 grand Furry retired CHP 440 6 pack interceptor. My grate aunt bought it in 77 and my mom bought it from her for 800.00 lol in 1993 I drove it in high school and freshman year of college. I can home and she had sold my Plymouth😢 I found it a few years ago at a retro rod resto place in Huntsville it was sold for 100k in 2021 to some collector out west.

Nice cars. I own a 1974 Plymouth satellite Sebring plus. It has a 360 4barrow 727 tans rally red. I've owned since I was nineteen. Does anyone know how many 360 4bbl was made in 1974 for this car..

The Max Wedge continues to be a boon to Mopar fans today thanks to the heads. They proved as templates for companies like Trick Flow and Edelbrock to make raised & enlarged port variants that really step up the power potential of the BBM without a ton of extra cost and special parts.

Do a video on the poly 318. I just learned about this motor and tomorrow I’m going to look at a rare one. It has stock dual 4 barrels and a 4 speed. A Chevy guy owns it and he don’t really know nothing about it. I think it’s a dodge polara or valiant or something. I’ll let yall know tomorrow.
