Montana Bird Hunting with Cesky Fouseks - Sharptail, Huns and Ducks
Bird hunting in Montana with Cesky Fouseks for Sharptail Grouse, Hungarian Partridge and Waterfowl. Quin, at 18 months old, is learning fast. I trained Quin to be to be steady to wing shot and fall this summer, and this was one of his first hunts where he was steady until released after I shot wild birds over his points. (Cesky Fouseks are a wirehaired versatile hunting breed from the Czech Republic, pronounced Chess-key Fo-sek, the name translated to English means Czech Moustache) Cesky Fouseks have also sometimes been called Bohemian Wirehaired Pointing Griffons.

      The birds very plentiful in the area and they are managed to prevent over hunting. Hunting is only open for a few months per year and only some fields can be hunted. The populations are affected more by the winter weather and the condition of the grass and brush than the hunter harvest.

    What kind of knife did you use?!

    • @zebbreuckman
      @zebbreuckman Месяц назад

      It’s an outdoor edge 2.5” trailblaze pocket knife… it’s a bit small but it got the job done. I have used a similar outdoor edge 6” knife or a 6” rapala fillet knife in the past and I think that size is ideal. I was trying to reduce the size and weight of items in my pack and I didn’t have many options left since most of my stuff is pretty dialed in. Not sure if I will stick with the tiny knife for elk but I will definitely keep using it for deer and antelope.

    congratulations nice bull ,and great video . only one question why did you not take the rib meat , ? why do huntrs leave the ribs , they are great , the bones of your kill elf ,moose , deer make awesome stews and they add flavor to any roast and broth ,

    • @zebbreuckman
      @zebbreuckman Месяц назад

      I would have needed to bone out the rib meat to haul it off the mountain. In the past when I have taken the rib meat off the bone in the field it ends up drying out a lot while it is being transported home in the game bags. There is so much dried meat to trim away that there is not much left to eat. I have had rib meat that is cooked bone in, and it is really good, but if I'm not able to keep the rib meat on the bone I don't take it (unless the game laws require salvaging it).

    Favorite river of all time I think. I went on a raft-supported trip running a Mad River ME. In an open boat, you treat large waves as rocks, and then back ferry on the back side to line up your next approach. Oh, and treat every hole with respect unless you feel like doing an epic surf while your kayaking buddies sit in an eddy and laugh.
