I like this original recording quality. The noise in the corner of the screen and the interference give a special atmosphere. Although I think that on TVs of that time this recording would have looked even more natural

It's crazy actually seeing these places. You think of the Sunset Strip as a place of glam and glitz and multi-million dollar record deals. But in reality, the strip is just another piece of real estate like any other. Restaurants and shops and car dealerships like you might see in any other town.

LA has always been a microcosm of the world, the very worst is here…along the very best. I absolutely love LA and all of its magic, its energy, that magnificent sun and the glorious beaches. Charlie Chaplin filmed near here while F. Scott Fitzgerald tried to turn his life around down near Sunset…and then had his heart attack, thinking himself a failure. He had no idea how wrong he was! Mostly, LA still attracts the dreamers and the very desperate. To my left lives 3 tv stars from the 70’s and across the street is Matt Damon who is a much better human being than an “actor”. I remind him to his face “You’re no actor, you’re a MOVIE STAR! Big deal! He has no enemies that I can see and occasionally, Jimmy Kimmel will drop by in a 1955 candy red Chevy Bell Air to pick him up while I walk my dog. I will yell at them both “I wanna a medium Latte, Oat Milk…extra hot…NO WHIPPED CREAM…be quick about it”! Kimmel yells back “I’ll pick you up a box of Depends too!” “Kimmel, try to be FUNNY tonight…for a change!”

Keith Morrison -- stepdad of the late Matthew Perry, who at this point in time was getting his break in showbiz.... Kelly Lange was a seasoned vet. I remember when KNBC first hired her in the early 70s to be their weather lady when Tom Snyder was anchoring the news. He harrassed the hell out of her, _on air_ quite often during her weather segments; but she hung in there and when I returned to the L.A. area in 1984, there she was co-anchoring the news. I haven't checked lately but I wouldn't be surprised if she was still there.

Another fascinating find. I hope there will be more late 80s from Los Angeles. I know it depends on what's available in your collection but it would be fun if you had a Big Spin episode or few either from the KTTV FOX 11 broadcast or even KMEX Univision 34 with commercials. I grew up watching all the LA channels since my infancy in the late 80s

I always thought that things would stay the same.

I wasn’t in LA at the time of the 87 earthquake but in 1989…I was there in San Francisco in July of 89 my first time visiting The City. It was hard to imagine anything happening to the most beautiful and breathtaking area in the entire country! I went back East for my sophomore year in undergraduate school and a girl I dated at the time ran into the college library were I was working and told me about the quake from watching the World Series! I couldn’t reach my friend who lived in Sacramento for like 2 weeks! Many mixed emotions as I watch this video and the profound sadness I felt about that marvelous city! But also encouraged by the bravery shown by all citizens to help out! God bless San Francisco!
