Okay I’ve heard a lot of people say that this song is about getting an abortion, having a miscarriage, it being about how an Aro/Ace person thinks about/perceives love, and even it being about a girl giving lobotomies 😭. BUT I think this might be about a very toxic relationship. The person singing only has one motivation: manipulate and exploit their partner in any way they can. They know that their partner really loves them and cares for them, so they decide to use that to their advantage. Using the pet name “Darling” could be used to further prove this. I can help but think that every time they say ‘darling’ it seemed disingenuous or sarcastic. Sometimes it can even come across as a way to demean someone (which- is a crazy achievement considering that this is a vocoloid conveying THIS much emotion. Very cool tuning!!) I feel as though throughout the song, the perspectives change as well. The partner could be catching on to what the other is doing to them, but the person singing might try to justify their actions in order to avoid a break up (or preventing the other to escape the emotional abuse). They could also be giving examples of what humans have done to each other in the name of “love.” Lobotomies were given mainly because people thought it would make you act more “normal.” Families willingly gave their children lobotomies out of “love” and “care,” when in reality it was the most sick thing you could do to a person. The person in the song thinks that by justifying their actions- by making their partner listen(even if they don’t want to) will prevent them from losing control over their “darling.” I ALSO believe that this tactic might’ve actually worked on the parent being abused. From 2:26 to 2:48, she agrees to submit to her partners abusive and toxic behavior purely over the fact that she doesn’t want to loose the person she loves the most (I just realized that one of the lyrics during this part mentions the gender so erm… yeah the one being abused might be a girl guys). She “closes her eyes” in order to ignore the behavior and agrees to ultimately stay with the other person. She doesn’t want to give them up because she loves them. The POV switches back to the other at 2:49, explaining how the rest of the relationship went. They state how their relationship is a “fantastical confusion.” Ultimately as time goes on, they loose control of their “darling” and they end up splitting up. But she never really lets go of the relationship because of the emotional damage it had caused her. The last line could be a reference to Brain Revolution Girl, which I think is about someone hating another. It could be a continuation of this song, and may be at the perspective of the girl after the relationship. How much she hates her previous partner for what they did to her. This song is a little confusing (and I kinda suck at explaining things 😭😭) but I really do like it nonetheless. Hopefully you somewhat understand what I’m getting at here💀 I also really like this cover! And you did a really good job with the tuning!!
