McKechnies Farewell

Seanair McKechnie did much to promote Gaelic music and culture through his roles in An Comunn Gàidhealach and Fèis Rois, where he was Chairman for twenty years. In 1996, Seanair was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours list for his services to the community. When Seanair stood down from his role in Fèis Rois, John Somerville wrote the tune McKechnie’s Farewell. This is our take of this beauti...

Beautiful tune and arrangement, lads. You blend so well together on this one.
Thanks for the feedback, John 😊
Great job
Very beautiful
can i ask whatbtype of whistle that is you have there
Yes, of course! It’s a John Sindt - a whistle maker in New York
Your sound of flute makes me cry… I was moved
Thanks - much appreciated. I recorded this tune just after I lost my younger sister to Covid ❤
@@PaulKelly124 I’m sorry to hear that, but I’m always rooting for you🫶 I love your sounds from Japan!
Beautiful
What whistle are you using there? Sounds much milder than the low d
It’s a John Sindt alto D whistle 😊
Lovely Paul☘️☘️
Cheers, Dennis! Hope all is well ☘️
Beautifully played by both.

Brilliant playing! ☘💚

Красивое исполнение❤
I absolutely love love love this version but I cant find the sheet music for it... where can i find this version
Hi there, this is our own arrangement and it isn’t notated, but the melody is on www.thesession.org 😊
@Kelly Paul oh ok. Its actually so beautiful! Thanks for letting me know.
What a beautiful tune
Thanks! Really appreciate your feedback 😊
Amazing! What kind of flute is this, a Tin flute in D?
It’s a D whistle made by John Sindt in New York. I waited over a year for it to be made 😊
Trying so hard to play the whistle but not sure if I'll ever get this good. Love it.
Thanks 😊 It’ll come as long you keep playing!
For years I thought exactly the same.. so I know how it feels like. The big 'breakthrough' for me was a: when I realized the difference between legato and staccato (slurring & tonguing) b: learned how to cut (properly 'tight' / 'crisp' ) and c: with the book of the great Grey Larsen - "The Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tin Whistle" - HIGHLY recommended. Those things have changed EVERYTHING for me. The rest will come with a lot of patience and practice. You can do it! :)
Wow fantastic spirit playing and ambience.congratulation you are great artists
Beautiful music
I love it Great job! I’ll look for the music got my recorder 75 year old recorder student 🙂
There is too much reverb to my ears. And, the instruments are a bit not in tune with themselves :)
Thanks for your response! Can’t please everybody with the choices we make 😁 Always room for improvement…
If you can control natural reverb you are going to make a fortune. Your comment was like a lighthouse in the desert - a great idea but totally useless.
@@LR-ee2uu you can put mics closer to the instruments, that will reduce the venue reverberation impact on the resulting record ;)
Beautiful. I love the breathy sound the Irish whistlers get…..way ahead of this old Scotsman whose been playing the damn thing for over 50 years and still can’t get that quite right. Loved this, thank you.
Me too.
i know this air that is singing by gilles SERVAT with the title ELEANOR. it is lovely played
Wonderful tune, well played... Like silk.
Magical melody!
Fair play to ya lad!
I really love the reverb in there. Eleanor Plunkett is a surprisingly easy Irish air to play. Has a very good feeling relaxing when playing
Hi Paul, I wanted to ask if the low whistle you play is an F busker because it sounds great. I don't know how you do it but all the ones you play sound divine. Thank you very much from Spain
Hi José, it’s a tuneable low F from Kerrywhistles and thanks for your kind words 😊
@@PaulKelly124 Hi Paul, do you know where I can get sheet music for this beautiful song for free? I have looked for it in The Session but it does not come to me. Now I'm learning the song "This Wandering Day" and in a couple of days I wanted to try to learn this one but I don't know where to find the sheet music. Thank you very much from Spain
@@JoseGomez-su7ux It’s at the session.org. Make sure you spell it like this McKechnie’s Farewell - remember the ‘ (apostrophe)
@@PaulKelly124 jojojo I already said that I was surprised that he was not there. I already saw it. Thanks a lot Paul, I'll start trying to play it soon. All the best
Wonderfully played, sounds real great!
Thanks!
Beatiful piece
Precioso
Hello Kelly, I live in Spain and I wanted to ask you if you know of any shop in the EU that sold me Wild whistles. All the ones I see on the internet are from the UK. I say this because it won't take me months and I won't have problems at customs with fees and tariffs. Thank you very much
Hi José, you can buy them from McNeelas based in Eire, Republic of Ireland, so no issues with import tariffs! 😊
What you saying Bro CCC
Someone tell the guitarist that he is in a CHURCH and that wearing a hat is DISRESPECTFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Bob, sorry, but the guitarist is one of the most respectful guys I know. No offence meant. How about these guys! wp.cruxnow.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/20200217T0952-2189-CNS-ADLIMINA-FIFTEEN-STPAUL_800.jpg
