Wow this is great
I don't understand why they are mixing kubernetes into this. Isn't portainer doing some of the stuff kubernetes is doing - but targeted at developers / smaller businesses that doesn't need the complexity of kubernetes?
We have a wide range of people using Portainer, from home users with a single Docker Standalone install all the way up to large corporations with many massive Kubernetes clusters. It's true that many users don't need the complexity of Kubernetes, but for those that want to try it out or upskill in the way the industry is moving, Portainer is a good introduction to Kubernetes and presents it in a familiar way if you're used to using Portainer to manage Docker environments. It also provides a single management interface for multiple different types of environment, which is helpful in learning or when transitioning from Docker to Kube, for example.

Cool, how to I mount a USB driver as a volume?
not easily... you would need to ensure its automounted, and then you can use a docker bind mount to the USB mountpoint... wouldnt support hot-remove though
It's a great that you had the docker compose file on your clipboard and ready to paste, but we don't. How about prociding a link to the docker compose file being used in this tutorial?
Hooray! glad to see it finally out the door. Good work guys.
Like the direction Portainer is going.
💪💪💪 let’s go!
Thanks!
thanks
WHY DOES EVERY GUIDE START WITH EVERYTHING ALREADY SET UP????????????????????????????????????????
Why do all of these videos avoid setting env variables? I dont think many production setups have them hard coded in the compose file.
The only reason I watched this was to troubleshoot the "add env vars" part and your putting them straight in the compose file. 🙄
Nice vid Ali!
Nice video Ali!
Somewhere on the left there @5:38 i clicked something to do with HTTPS and now portainer web page only shows a "Bad Gateway" message, i'd rather not reset my server but know how to fix this instead, please
This knowledge base article might help: portal.portainer.io/knowledge/i-enabled-force-https-only-and-now-im-locked-out-of-portainer-how-do-i-get-back-in . If not, then I'd suggest posting in GitHub Discussions (github.com/orgs/portainer/discussions ) or asking for help in our community Slack channel (join.slack.com/t/portainer/shared_invite/zt-21zpww5ab-mG_lA7UXbWL3HW3sPqjqEA ).
a million thanks!!! helped so much
Nice tool, if only it would copy the container run commands too :D
Thank you! Looking forward to experimenting with the additional features in business edition on my homelab before deployment!
Controle: Limitado ? como resolver HELP
io.portainer.accesscontrol.teams: "YOUR_TEAM_HERE"
If a person needs this level of help... they probably are not using a swarm or other advanced concepts... think about your audience and don't assume they know stuff.
That was an incredibly helpful video, thank you.
Wutsup
This is not working for me. Backed up on source swarm, restored on fresh Portainer install on destination swarm (both single node). All files were there, even the stack-compose, but they do not show in the GUI. A search resulted this is due to the DB having the old swarm ID and I'm not willing to fish inside the db for those IDs. I sure can use the migrate function but this would NOT qualify as a backup. A backup has to be working on a new swarm in case the complete source dies.
doesn't work anymore
Can i install invoice ninja like this?
Thank you! very useful. btw "swarm init" instruction is missing from documentation on website (I didn't realize I needed to init the swarm)
So I did this and log in with the old password but no containers show up on the new server. I did move all the volumes over.. I did a test manually eg, uptime kuma named the volume the same and starter it worked. So i deleted everything (except underlying volumes data) and .. after restore backup i get nothing... ?? (also using business edition) Im gonna have to do it the hard way.. innit?? would be nice if we could just bulk export the container run commands atleast I can paste that into the shell.
Great video; going out on a limb here. My github hosted compose file, has a secret (cloudflared docker container, its key). Now obviously I don't want to store than in plain text in Github, but with pull method I also can't see how I can sensibly have it as a github secret. My only option I can think of, is to have the secret stored in Portainer (which I'm doing now) as (yes, bad idea I know) a plain text environment variable. Any words of wisdom you can share? I'm using portainer-ce with remote agents. My stack "docker-compose.yml" containers three services - cloudflared, treafik and my webserver. Only cloudflared needs a key, but I need to find out a way to store that key sensibly!
Wheres the chase and how do i cut to it
Portainer is better than kubernetes
why was my comment removed?
Thank you Mr. Calm Voice for demonstrating how Stacks are Portainer's version of Docker-compose. Right on, I'll check out the newer version of this tutorial next.
Thank you very much for your video. I was tortured by this backup and restore for 5 hours. After I logged in to Portainer, I could not find the restore button. It turned out that I had to select it when I logged in to the web page for the first time. Thank you very much!
Great walk through. Portainer makes managing my docker swarm possible!
I'm having a horrible time with this. It was all fine and dandy until suddenly my portainer env suddenly became unreachable. Which is odd since the UI shows it as UP but when i try to connect it returns unreachable
This example doesnt show authentication which is now part of it. Have not found one example that shows how it is currently. Only posts about how it isnt working.
You can find detail on how to use the authentication functionality in our documentation: docs.portainer.io/user/docker/stacks/add#option-3-git-repository
Does it backup all runtime config changes centrally?
This is never going to work, the YAML is referencing the volume: portainer_data, then when you deploy the stack its creating names and volumes that are portainer_portainer_data 🙄
The renaming of volumes like portainer_portainer_data by Docker Swarm when deploying stacks is an intentional feature to ensure unique resource names across the cluster, not an error, and it does not affect the functionality or referencing within the docker-compose.yml
@@Techdox Oh ok. thats interesting. It's a bit messy though :(
why does the portainer-ce gives the "Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix" error in a swarm?? FYI the swarm and docker is working fine
Good day, After deploying portainer in my swarm environment, it just loads really slow and sometimes even disconnects. I have this problem for two months now. But once I installed it as a standalone, it starts to work. Please help.
Wow. That is me in the video. How crazy my life turned in just a couple of years.
Really good idea to use grafana as a spa for presenting this. Thanks for this video.
do you know the reason why the option of "Rollback to Previous version" is disabled in Portainer UI for Kubernetes Application
Fantastic!
you even scip the basics, how to find the name from the image. It is even not descripted in the basic manual from the software. How can someone or even all miss that crusial step in a tutorial....
You should make a video on how to clone the containers
why isnt this just a KB article?
Hi, I just watched the agent video. May I suggest in the introduction- stating the objective of what yr trying to achieve & what problem yr trying to solve to solve. Not sure if I made sense. Carlo
