[1985] Joni Mitchell - Good Friends/Fiction
The guy who was marveling at Jacos' amazing way of playing - "and it was fretless!" Brother. Watch a video of Stanley Clarke on an upright acoustic bass! Be prepared to have whatever is left after Jaco, "to be blown into outer space bro!" 🔊🎉 🌟 🌠 💫 😂
So tragic, Jaco. I saw Stanley Clarke at the Stone in S.F. It was known that Jaco was there. I could even see him on the side in an elevated sitting area. He, unfortunately, wasn't at his best. He came on stage and played a little but he wasn't his old self. Such a chance to see those two legends together. Too bad. Stanley shone of course!
I managed somehow to see Joni and Jaco together. So unique. I can't remember if Metheny was there. Probably in San Francisco. One of a kind; once in a lifetime ✨️ What a gift. 🎉
Joni Mitchell liking Jaco? She is amazing but I thought that she hated everybody. Jaco is a legend.
Unfortunately, I didn't see Jaco until almost the tragic end. I saw him in a small venue after Word Of Mouth album came out (which I loved!). Disappointingly, after hearing the incredible horn sections on Word of Mouth, there was only a five piece (2 horns). They played a respectable (but not mind-blowing) first set. Then during the break Jaco just started passing around absolutely insane piles of cocaine on a mirror in the green room. I saw them there but declined to enter. But my guitar player who was with me at the show went in there. The whole band (and a bunch of hangers-on besides) just got absolutely blasted. The second set was just a jam session - nobody was in the space to be able to remember complex arrangements by that point. They went back and forth between jamming on the changes to Giant Steps and then Jaco would bring it to a slow blues in G. That's it. No songs, no repertoire from that fabulous album, just these guys (who, admittedly, were great players even when they were stoned) blowing their high out on their instruments. I left with real mixed feelings about it all. Within a couple of years Jaco was dead. So sorry such amazing genius had to end that way...
Woodstock❤
I don't care what anyone says - this is a great and ballsy record
If you ask me which two songs illustrate Jaco's musicianship best I always come up with Joni's "Hejira" and In "France they kiss on mainstreet", both on her Shadows and light album. The richness, the endless stream of ideas, the melodies and rythm, the groove, the flawless playing, it's all there in abundance. He's everywhere. I'm just as floored today as when I was when I heard it for the first time. This is the kind of playing that Victor Wooten refers to so beautifully at the end of this video, I think. Jaco indeed went beyond the bass and played music that was in the air.
Mis them both
Goat
I could only imagine the musical freedom joni felt playing with these monster musicians
I went to Berklee with her. Her name is "Ti"... Sirabhorn Muntabhorn.
🙂🙃♥️

When Art was real
I saw Jaco with Weather Report. He was a remarkable player in what was a remarkable band. His work with Joni is absolutely brilliant. Lucky us.
What does short sheeting mean when Joni says Jaco was short sheeting her?
@@AdamLovinus-s3q I believe she said jaco ran his cable over her keyboard cuz he didn't want her to play.
He's not the greatest, just one of the first, and so he was highly influential.
Seriously, I love Joni’s work but Jaco’s stuff ruins it; his tone is like someone farting down a pipe.
Oh c’mon man, you don’t want to start shit do you? Jaco fans who dig all the way back here worship Jaco and will be hurt by mild criticism, even if it’s just your personal preference. I mean there are only worship comments on this one. There has to be a place with negative Jaco commentary on YT here with people who would love your critique. So, unless you get off to ruining some kid’s day, please edit to remove the last part critical of his tone. I’m sorry I would normally never post something like this but for some reason I think everybody on here worships Jaco and react to ANYTHING negative.
He probably dropped his speaker in the tub and thinks Jaco sounds underwater
Leave in a bag of rice for 24 hours
Well there is no words...simply beautiful and so far from music business...so human and very very touching...knowing Joni ' s music since 1992, Pat and Lyle...❤❤
Wonderful seeing young Pat and Lyle (the "Shadow and Light" clips).
Genius at work - Jaco
Beautiful music performed by exemplary musicians; one of greatest debut albums in jazz
LPs were £3.99 when I first heard Shadows and Light via a late night TV show. Eventually discovered it was only available as a Japanese import at the time. Can’t remember if it was £12 or £20….worth every penny.
I just wish he could have learned he had a neck pickup on his bass. I hate that nasally tone.
The Pastorius/Metheny Lineup was Joni's Best Band Ever.😊
Sublime ❤
Shadows and Light is one of the greatest live albums of all time.
@0:14 'This is a song about a ??? .... (indecipherable) ' sounds like 'bird dealer'
Very relaxed and comfortable, easy to think by.
Estatically beautiful.❤😂🎉😅😊
A match made in Heaven. They were meant to play together.
Reading some of the complete bullsh*t on here about how players have learned from Jaco and taken it further…as if technique is what it’s about, are simply betraying their ignorance! It’s NOT his technique that made Jaco so incredible, it’s his “feel”, it’s his very soul is coming through his fingers and out into the universe!
“Shadows And Light” is one of the greatest live albums ever, and opening with “In France They Kiss On Mainstreet” with Pat Metheny and Jaco ripping it up has brought me to tears of happiness at how something can be so freakin’ awesome on many occasions!
Lyle Mays on Panio
Two gifts from God. Jaco & Jonie
I was there! 3rd row center Santa Barbara County Bowl. I lived on Ortega St , right off Milpas couple of blocks away. Never forget it , one of the greatest shows I ever saw. I was already in love with Hejira and Joni and Pat and Jaco, so naturally I was in music Heaven .
Glad they saved this one!!!
9:50 this is it ‼️💕
Thank you VintageBassArchive for sharing the HUGE talent of Michel Petrucciani
Discazo. Ojalá lo hubiera descubierto en en momento de publicarse.
Video is not synched with playing. Made it unwatchable for me.
ah é entao aqui vai em português: Nao tenho palavras pra descrever o que é Pat, Lyle e demais. Esses dois musicos juntos é de um talento de fora da orbita terrestre, como podem compor cada nota, cada instrumento. É insano!!
He truly played the music that was in his soul. It was an honor to meet Jaco Pastorius in 1985. ❤
Fantastico. Un sogno
Dreaming
I remain sad and angry about Jaco’s death. A criminal (Luc Havan) overly walked free and took a legend away from us. Massive loss.
Jaco inspired and saved so many people with his talent. It’s a shame nobody could save him from himself.
