Shapton Kuromaku Professional Stone Flattening - Stone Maintenance Salon Shear Sharpening
Just a little whetstone maintenance on a couple of Shapton Kuromaku Professional WhetStones. I have the Shapton 1500 and Shapton 5000 and I use them daily for my salon shear sharpening. These stones need consistent maintenance to keep them flat. I bought both of them from @SharpeningSupplies

Nice work, friend!
Thank you! Cheers!
Just subscribed. Looks like you've mastered the ol' "Work Sharp!" I like those high quality replacement belts your using...
Ha...not at all. I like the little machine but I only use it once in a while. Thanks for watching though. Belts are from Cliff Curry at Currycustomcutlry.com I use only 3M belts.
Great job - many scissors can require specialized sharpening equipment & special skill. I've had very good results with everyday, household scissors/shears working with the attachment for my KO-3. Did you use a piece of scrap leather to pull the burr off before going to your finishing grit abrasive? I've seen felt pads that attach to a work bench to remove the burr, and of course corks...
I like using a piece of leather for small thin burrs.
Appreciate your tutorials for the Work Sharp. I lost my Ken Onion Ed. during a move and have been learning/working on my TSPROF, KO-3 model. I'm thinking of replacing my W. Sharp, especially after seeing you with the 3-D printed platen-like add on. It could be a real time saver reprofiling, etc. It's such a joy to use properly sharp shears, knives, and so on. Thanks & take care...
Thanks for watching and subscribing. I'm an apprentice at sharpening at this point. Don't take my videos as tutorials. There are a lot a lot better training videos out there. I'm learning to make RUclips videos on here. :-)
Was it the sharpening or tightening the screw?
No screw on these scissors ✂️
@@sharpenrightservicesllc then it was definitely the sharpening.
What’s that wheel you’re using?
ruclips.net/video/9BUMp1NcVdI/видео.htmlsi=tOm1qMrGvadMyzFk
What grid is that sandpaper, and what brand?
All 3M ….30, 15 and 9 mesh…. You can get all of these tools from Wolff industries.
@@sharpenrightservicesllc I meant to say for the curb shear?
2000 and a 3000.........I was out of 1000grit.
Hi Mike What polishing pad did you use and did you amend it to make it fit the hiro-to? Also what speed setting did you run the hiro-to at? Thanks Tony
The polishing pad is from Wolff Industries. I run 6-7 always.
ruclips.net/video/9BUMp1NcVdI/видео.html
Great video Mike. Is this the best machine for all shears or the twice as sharp machine? Also, where do you buy the replacement parts kit?
A flat hone is the proper machine for salon and barber shears in my opinion. The TAS is too fast and most of the wheels are too aggressive.
Have you ever tried using the work sharp to sharpen convex shear
Not!!!
@@sharpenrightservicesllc I did with work sharp belts.
Thanks for posting this!
Thanks for watching
That hira though.
Hey did you ever get in touch will Allen Poe at AMK Tools regarding the knife jig?
Looks like you're going to have to buy the AMK76. Hey I sent you a message on Facebook.
@@sharpenrightservicesllc no didn’t have it at the time.
League City. Really like it better when you talk us through your process. When the weather cools off maybe you could do this more often.
It’s a lot of work thanks for watching.
What sharpening stone grit do you use?
Shapton 1500 and 5000
How many blades can you sharpen for each charge ?
6-8 depending on how bad the blade is. I stick to that religiously to keep the plate wear to a minimum. I hear people saying 12-15 but I think that’s nuts. 🤪
Hi, what are the stone grids?
Shapton 2500 and 5000
@sharpenrightservicesllc thanks. I am trying to learn to who to sharpen shears.
Looked like the 2000grit one.
The blue Shapton stone is 1500 grit not 2500
I have that hatchet
It’s a great little hatchet
Where are you from
We are located in League City, Texas. We also do mail in sharpening. Check out our website at sharpenright.com.
Video locked up halfway through
Thanks Mike! You need a mini-split! Greetings from SoCal, 72 here at our San Clemente pier at Sunset cocktails…..should get down to 65 tonite……so nice to rarely run our A/C😎
If I had another entrance for customers other than the garage door I would. No way to have customers come to the shop other than through the house or opening the garage door. It's really not as bad as I make out. 9 months of the year we have nice weather. Thanks for watching and commenting. It is appreciated.
Which 4 3m belts are you using?
All of them are fairly worn but at 120 Cubitron, 400 and 600 Trizact then leather strop
@@sharpenrightservicesllc Where do you get them from? Not finding much on combat abrasives or Supergrit
I order all of my belts from Cliff Curry in Hawaii....www.currycustomcutlery.com/
Hiya Mike Names Tony and I work out in Peterborough in the UK. Absolutely love watching your clips, very informative with style...Keep the good work up 👍
Thanks for watching
I would suggest a generator hut, it would cut down on the noise and keep it weather safe. You can have a solar tender set up to keep the battery always topped off
What angle are you sharpening the first 1 blade cause the second one most be 90 degrees i think! Thank you for your videos and your time! Frank from the deep North of Canada! I hv the Work Sharp Elite from Ken Onion Edition and all kind of ceramic, diamond etc... rods and not your sophistaken sharpening machine
One was about 60 and the other ws 20. Theynhad been poorly sharpened in the past.
Thank for taking the time you meen 60 on the top blade and 20 on the bottom one?
Awesome video I like your idea of using grip tape on the magnet. I am definitely going to give that a try. As far as the pricing goes on magnets, I was shocked to find out that they're very inexpensive at Ace Hardware. A while back, I picked up a large horseshoe magnet for $20.
Well thanks for watching. I needed something to grip those magnets better and thought this would work. It worked well for me on the smaller magnet. I have tried different knobs and just had problems feeling comfortable. We each have to find something that works.
Love your videos Mike. I've just started my own sharpening business in the UK so watching you work helps me out 👍
That is awesome! Thanks for watching
Good job, bro!
Thanks!
I can't find any parts for my duromax generator on their website, Amazon, anywhere. Do you have the same issue?
I would think you would need to contact Duromax. I have not needed anything from mine yet.
Did you purge all the air out of the line and fill it with natural gas before connecting to the generator? If not you had a line full of air. That air had to pass through and be replaced by gas before it could fire.
What was your angle and belt progression on the Wusthofs?
First of all, thanks for watching! I start off with a very well worn 120 3M Cubitron….. then I go to a well-worn 400 grit Trizact….. and finish with a well-worn 600 grit Trizact.
First of all, thanks for watching! I start off with a very well worn 120 3M Cubitron….. then I go to a well-worn 400 grit Trizact….. and finish with a well-worn 600 grit Trizact. 20° per side
Mike, thank for Your vid on 3m trizac belts i just got the deluxe kit wich includes 1200 , 2500 and also ordered the 4000 grit i SEE that You only use the cubitron, 200,400,600 and the finish with the leather one, Will it make a difference to go trow all the grits (sharp wise) thanks.
I rarely go to that fine of a belt. I use the belts to death so a 200 becomes a 400 and 600 probably gets to a 1000. Never had anyone complain about it not being not sharp enough because of the grit on the belt. It's the edge angle that matters most. When I do my personal knives I like the edge with some grip to them. But that's just me.

I’m running a sewing shop and want to start sharpening scissors for the ladies. A wide range of scissors.. Will this work for me?
Yes get with Wolff Industries and they will get you set up. If there is a better sewing scissor sharpening system out there, I have not found it yet.
What are you using to work the ride line? Looks like some abrasive discs on a rounded jig of some kind? What grit?
It’s a 4” piece of PVC pipe cut in half and I use 1000 grit and 2000 grit adhesive backed discs. Simple and works great in my opinion.
I just sharpened 2 of those today for a bakery
Nice video! May I ask what kind of wheel on your grinder you are using? I liked and subscribed!
Thanks for watching. I have a 240 grit diamond wheel from Continental Diamond Tools and the standard Wolff Industries honing wheel. I used the standard Wolff 100 grit white stone wheels for a long time. In my opinion they produced a too rough surface for high quality sewing scissors, they are terribly messy and they don't last long enough for a sharpening service. I think I went through a wheel a year when I first got started. I have had the diamond wheel 2 years and it works fantastic. It wasn't cheap. I think $160 but it is so durable. I hope that answers your question.
@@sharpenrightservicesllc Thank you for the reply, I will look into it!
Great video but what system are you using for the sharpening?
AMK-75 from amktactical.com
@@sharpenrightservicesllc Thank you very much I'm going to look into one of those!
Love videos. What is your main metal dust collection machine. Thanks
AMK!
Robert you need to buy one! :-)
@@sharpenrightservicesllc yes I was looking at the 76. Versatile.
Hey I saw on Facebook you have the Viel and was looking at the TAW clamp. Somewhere I saw a video on how to put a sleeve in to make i work. I want to see how it works out for you.
@@sharpenrightservicesllc yes now I want to know what size he got. Should I just get the sleeve kit?
I have no idea I'm look forward to you telling me how it works.
A pro knife does not care about a dish washer, at least my knives, do not care
The chlorine bleach in the detergents are corrosive to stainless steel. That what causes the oxidation and pitting. The dishwasher does not get hot enough to take the temper from a blade as some people claim. They obviously do not understand how hot a dishwasher gets, and what it takes to take the temper out of equality knife.
Hi, can this be shipped to the UK? Thanks.
I'm not sure. You can contact the maker. The Etsy page is in the description.
You do some amazing work brotha
Thank you! Cheers!
Man i wish i could send you some of my knives to sharpen 😂
Mike: I'm about to pull the trigger on this exact same model. Do you have any pros and cons on this unit that you'd like to share? If you're in League City, I'm about 20 minutes to the south of you and there no natural gas here, so I'll be running strictly on gasoline. Did you purchase yours from Home Depot?
Get propane tanks and get the ethanol free gasoline from Buccees in Texas City.
@@sharpenrightservicesllcI’m located in La Porte and have the same question. Do you mind if I text you as well? I’m looking at this model also.

Hey Tommy did you get the generator?
I@sharpenrightservicesllc I ordered it but it's on back order. Won't be here till the end of September
what are your belt progressions sir?
First of all thanks for watching. I used a worn 60 on the HF 1x30 to take the serrated edge off. I used a very worn 120 3M Cubitron II to get a burr. Then i finished with 400 and 600 3M Trizact. I use the hell out of each belt where they are always lighter in abrasion than new ones. Does this make sense?
Just order the non-serrated one. Anyone stupid enough to buy cutco is too stupid to see its different
