This was a great movie.
1 Man... took a small running program, and took a bunch of kids from thr streets. And turned them into the best cross country running team in all of California back in 87' Thank You, Jim White.
No, one man observed that these kids were already capable of being beasts. This isnt about Jim White, without those kids Jim White would have been just another mediocre teacher on the verge of being fired, and a sub-par football Coach. And I say that as a Coach. Jim learned as much from those kids about work ethic and toughness in the face of adversity as they learned about structured running programs. And they weren't street kids, they were pickers. They didnt have time to be street kids
The guitar music is mesmerizing.

This and running helped me avoid all forms of the bad kinds of peer pressure. ---- I ran Cross Country in high school (h.s.) because I was rejected from the baseball team due to a miserable tryout. ---- Most h.s. cross country teams (including mine) do not have a tryout. As a freshman, on the first day of h.s. cross training, I learned that outperforming an opponent did not matter. It is all about improving yourself little by little. (They call it beating your personal record.) I never finished in the top 5 of a cross country race, but I never regretted any day of it.

i am genuinely so proud and amazed of the boys. this movie meant a lot to me, teared up and rooted for them throughout the moments in which they ran! mcfarland!

McFarland is a wonderful town. The kids are my favorite! ("The Real Danny Diaz" wasn't fat! LOL!). AND the young man who played Danny was a graduate of McFarland High School!
Yeah and from what I read, David wasn't on that year's squad. He had run for White (he started xc at the school in 1980) but graduated the year before this movie takes place
I loved the fictitious Danny Diaz! He was an inspiration to me! Taught me never to give up and keep pushing! He was amazing and I have yet to be that myself. I will some day!

I was born and raised in Kern County, my mom graduated from McFarland High, went to elementary school in Delano, The Central Valley is a beautiful place, proud to call it home!
