No 69 nova is 10k unless its a complete pos
Unless someone get really lucky!
I think the reason the 68 Mustang was selected for the movie didn’t have anything to do with it being the best looking ever version of the Mustang fastbacks but rather that the movie was actually made in 1968. There were only two Mustang fastback models at that time. Oddly, the Mustangs from 1964 thru 1973 are considered “1st Generation” despite significant restyling and platform stretches every two years. Probably cause those cars were based on the Falcon platform (2nd Gen on the Pinto, 3rd on the Fox, etc). There were faster Mustang models, including the 428 variants of the Shelby mustangs, but Frank Bullitt’s car was intended to depict a working cop’s steed with average mods a working cop could afford along with typical dents and dings. Don’t know how many working cops of the day had to provide their own cars, at least in the US, but…. A working cop was less likely to be able to afford a GT500 as a daily driver. Anyone who’s ever been in a pursuit will realize that a smaller, more nimble car with some semblance of a performance motor and a 4-speed can hold its own, at least until the long stretches. While the car budget in Bullitt was obviously less than what we like to think for a Hollywood production, the studio did apparently modify the 390 somewhat to give it a little more grunt as the Charger did have a power advantage. The 390 Ford got the reputation as a boat anchor but not because it didn’t have potential. Ford apparently misjudged the competition and then put their focus on developing the 428 CJ. The Ford Galaxy could have been optioned with up to a 345 horse 428 and modded for more. I can see Ford giving the studio a couple of 289 or grocery getter 390s. But a few short years later, Dirty Harry showed that big Fords could get air on the streets of San Francisco.
Thanks for the detailed insights! You're absolutely right-while the '68 Mustang Fastback is iconic, its selection for Bullitt likely had more to do with the movie being made in 1968 than it being the 'best looking' version. The way they used the Mustang as Frank Bullitt’s realistic, working cop car definitely added to the film’s authenticity, especially with the practical mods and wear-and-tear. The power difference between the Mustang and the Charger is definitely noticeable, but it's cool to think that even with a 390, the Mustang could hold its own on the tight streets of San Francisco. And yeah, the Ford 390 gets a bad rep, but as you said, it had potential, and we saw that on screen! Thanks again for sharing-love hearing perspectives from fellow car enthusiasts!
So a 260 HP Mustang GT runs a 13.5 and a 305 HP Z28 SS does a 13.8. OK, got it.
There are a number of errors in this video. The Mustang is not a first-gen Mustang. The Charger does not have a 440-6 Pack. Those engines were a mid-year introduction in 1969. The driver in the Charger was a topnotch driver. No production-based Mustang from this era could hit 200 MPH.
No production model from anywhere in 1968 could even approach 200mph
These prices are all off lol
Depends on condition and where you're from (canada VS usa)
I believe they also milled the heads and installed a 850 holly carb on the mustang
I'm honestly not 100% sure about that, its possible! Id have to do some research.
Crown Vic getting some love
Oh yea!
Those firebirds looks super cool for their days
I agree!
Steve McQueen wasn't doing anything after 1980.
He was?
@@MuscleCarEnthusiasts Autocorrect typo.
If the charger didnt crash that lighter mustang would have never caught him.
Gotta agree on this one!
The 428 was available and late in 68 the 428CJ was available. Why did they use a 440-6 Charger? A 4 V Charger was available as was a 383. Kind of odd as the engines were not discussed in the movie.
The Badges were removed on the Mustang because of the choice of the Charger as the assassin's car, when ford were offered to the film ,ford motor company wasn't happy with the Charger, so ford wanted the badges removed
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Is this real?
The so called goons driving the Charger is Bill Hickman , a famous Hollywood stunt driver, he also drove in 7 ups, french connection.
Yep, that's true.
the other bullitt mustang was located too
Was it?!
With all due respect to the late great Steve McQueen, the notion that the Dodge driver was just a thug is absurd. None other than Bill Hickman, also drove the bad guy's Dodge vs Roy Sheider's Pontiac Ventura (pretty much a Nova with Pontiac badging) in the 7Ups. Hickman was a legend too!
Legends never die!
@@MuscleCarEnthusiasts so in the comments on RUclips's showing of The 7ups someone said somebody related scavenged the motor out of the totaled Pontiac Roy Sheider drove. Don't know what block (305,327, or 350) but it absolutely Screamed during that New York and area car chase. Every bit as good as the Bullitt chase plus the plot/cast/storyline overall better IMHO.
This is a second gen not 1st gen and no way the mustang would have kept up with the charger so they had to modify the motor and suspension to keep up
That would depend more on rear end gearing than anything else.
Also, I believe the charger was a 383, which a 390 GT would have zero problem keeping up with. Sorry Dodge fan boy.
Wrong! The first gen mustang is a 1964 1/2, 1965 or 1966.
That is right, my bad!
Nice collection. I have a 1969 Mach 1 with a 351. Looking for a newer model to add to my stable.
Thats really cool! Are you just collecting them or planning to sell one day? It has always been a dream of mine, for a barn find, fix it up with my son and enjoy it.
This list has the GNX the slowest. But up to 124 MPH only the 89 trans Am could keep up. Which by the way is well past the quarter mile mark. To be competitive and drive an 80's American muscle car in the mid to late eighties at the drag strip or street race you drove a turbo Buick or a Mustang.
Fox body in 2003 😂😂
Pretty cool eh
No 71 Camaro??! LOL. SMDH
In the next video!
What is Kilowatt and NM?
Similar to horse power its just used in Australia instead of HP.
