    Great Video! We’ll be arriving in Rome after a 15 day transatlantic cruise and have 2 nights in Rome before taking the train to Florence for 2 nights and then the train to Venice for 2 nights, before finally heading to Brussels for a night and returning to the States. It will be a bit of a whirlwind, but we are thinking to hit only a few things for tours (Colosseum, possibly the Vatican, Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Gallerie dell'Accademia) because I know some tours take a lot of time, like your Vatican tour, so I have to weigh if the time spent going on tours is worth what else I’ll miss in Rome. If it takes 5-6 hours to do the Vatican, and then I’m exhausted, that will probably be my day, yet I want time to just wander and explore, since I love architecture, food and wine.

      We hope you have a great trip. If you’re going to do anything at the Vatican, make sure it’s St. Peter’s Basilica. We were truly in awe. If you’re trying to preserve your stamina, maybe save the Vatican museum for your next trip.

    Is traveling to Italy with a tour company a better idea or going by yourself?

    • @jpaw1965
      @jpaw1965 6 дней назад

      @@vrushalipande6168 great question. I would say using a tour company is a good idea if you don’t want to do a lot of planning on your own, since almost all the work is done for you. However if you want to create your own itinerary, and don’t mind doing a little research, Id say try it on your own. We’re working on a video on how to do it yourself, but it’s been a big project. Stay tuned.

    The chains that reputedly bound St. Peter are on display in San Pientro en Vincola (St. Peter’s in Chains). Under the Papal Altar in St. Peter’s Basilica are the reputed bones of St. Peter. Along with the tombs of many popes.

As we learn more about video and RUclips, we’re told GoPro is not ideal for this kind of recording as it’s meant for action and sport capture. However, it’s all we’ve got right now and seems to be doing the job.

    My wife and I did Rome/Florence/Venice this past May. We hired private guides in each location, meaning it was just the two of us and the guide. It’s more expensive than group tours, but you have much more flexibility. You can change things on the fly, spend extra time in a particular place, and you’re not at the mercy of 20 or more other people. I highly recommend it if your budget allows. As for a general tips: 1) it’s tempting to cram as much as you can into your tours and trip overall. But be careful to not overextend yourself. You can’t see every museum, every church, every historical site, there’s simply too much. You’ll just end up frazzled and exhausted. Plan what’s most imports to you and give yourself a reasonable schedule. And 2) absolutely build in some free time to do the wander/get lost/explore thing. A healthy combination of both really made it an incredible experience.

    • @jpaw1965
      @jpaw1965 23 дня назад

      We couldn’t agree more with your advice about over scheduling yourself. It also gives you an excuse to return to Italy to catch what you missed the first time 😉. We’d seen private guided tours offered from some of the big name tour companies, and you’re right; they can be much more expensive. We appreciate this comment as it offers an expanded take on our premise that you must decide what’s worth it to you. And it obviously was! Thanks for sharing your experience!

    I have taken a few guided tours myself and I think the most valuable thing about it is the knowledge and expertise the guides shared… for example I tried roaming around louvre myself with the help of audio guide but the experience is wholly diff when I did a guided tour in prado Madrid.. I love all the sharings on the background of each art work! All the guides I had so far were so enthusiastic and passionate.. and I guess that makes the diff! I will definitely go for guided tours! 😊 thanks for the sharing!

      We agree with you @jennykok4644. When we were doing the Pantheon without a guide, we found ourselves eavesdropping on some of the professional guides, taking in snippets of their expertise as we passed by.

    Great video. Honest & informative. Our 4-person group is going to Italy (Rome, Florence & Venice) for 2 weeks then boarding a 10-day cruise. For the Italian cities, we are using a private tour company for 10 different services - including, airport transfers, transfers from Rome to Florence to Venice, exclusive Vatican, Full day Rome, Rome at Night, Florence & Pisa, Venice full day tour, etc. While these activities can be done much cheaper on your own, it is way less expensive than cruise company shore excursions and much more informative as the video states. This is the 1st time in Italy for 2 of our group and the 3rd time for the other 2. We have used this company each time and they are absolutely fantastic. For the cruise stops in Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro & Greece, we booked through Get Your Guide at roughly 1/2 the cost of the cruise line’s excursion costs.
