We don't have enough time on this Earth to only get $50 for threaded boxes. Nice he washed his smock too.
One of the best texturing videos I’ve come across. Well explained and demonstrated. You have even explained how errors are made and then fixed them up. You beauty John. Video possibly is too detailed in as much as it seems to make this feature of turning too difficult to achieve. I want to try this BUT it all seems a little difficult.
Thanks Greg. I encourage you to give it a try. ☺
You and I go back to the 80's with books and videos. Still learn from you daily... You've mentored my turning for decades... How can I own one of your bowls... Please direct me... I would cherish it.
Just brilliant and so very very helpful. Way more helpful than all the other videos on the topic i have watched. Thankyou!!!!!!!!
Thanks Steve. Hope you will give it a try. 😊
I remember the airline strike of Dec '89 lasted until 12 January 1990, the impact on tourism was long lasting.
I tried this two-part bleaching on California wild oak and it works great!
He makes it look easy. Nice work.
Very good video. Informative.
Well done.
nie zrozumialem ani jednego slowa -a zbyt malopokazales mocowanie do toczenia owalnej misy
Thanks for posting
Some good information. Too bad the videography is so poor. Often out of focus, camera angle too low to really see the contact point between the tool and the wood.
Thanks for the feedback. I might update this in the future. 😊
I'm afraid CNC machines have replaced this tool.
Amazing.
When did he lose his finger?
Over twenty years ago,at least,on a table saw. 😳
I’ve watched so much of him I can’t believe I didn’t notice ever.
Hes explaining stuff too fast nowadays. The Mid-Maryland demo he did years ago was much clearer.
Great presentation on Texturing..Thanks
Thanks😊
Excellent presentation, sir! Thank you for a clear and thorough demonstration. You are correct when you said 35 years of turning experience is a good background for this turning challenge! Only another Woodturner could appreciate this task. Thanks again.
Your work is amazing. I know plenty of people that would appreciate it. Many people that see bark edge bowls that have been turned wet, and look slightly oval always ask me how that happens. A true oval bowl would fascinate them.
Thank you Look forward to seeing your new video content in 2024
Thank you! I’m hoping to find out about the music on the stand behind you.
Fantastic teacher.
great Lesson, thanks from Austria
Thank you for sharing this video. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to you All
I loved the software but there is no information on how to get it?
Nice demo!
Mike Porter is at 45:29 to 45:56 and at 56:00 to 58:40.
Mike Porter is at 28:42.
As many of you hopefully know by now we lost my beloved dad, Mike Porter, on August 14 to pancreatic cancer. I’m making a note of where he appears in here (at 16:30) to talk about a memorial candle stand he made for family friends in Germany. It’s lovely to hear Dad’s voice, especially talking about something so meaningful to him - both wood turning and these family friends. Coincidentally the husband that he made this for, who had lost his beloved wife, has just emailed me with a photo of the candle stand and to tell me that it’s in a special place in their home and is often used. How beautiful that I then just happened upon this video of Dad discussing it. Thank you for recording these so I can listen whenever I need a “fix”. I look forward to trying out wood turning with Dad’s equipment.
Thank you for this very informative video. I have been thinking about doing some piercing work since I already have an OZ micro carver and your video provided lots of useful information that I will put to good use.
I’m glad you found it helpful.
instructive presentation, thanks for sharing knowledge
Wonderful demonstration. I use five D-Way tools for bowls. Turning boxes is something new to me; I have a cherry blank in my lathe right now. Looks like I will be ordering one or two new tools. The double-ended tool is a great idea and a fine value for the price. Learning the history of D-Way was very interesting. The mandrel mounting attachment is new to me and I might have a need for one. I can see some advantages of it over chucks, especially for boxes. Are you using threaded inserts in the wood?
Appreciate the feedback and sharing your positive experience with our tools. Yes. The inserts in the glue blocks are 3/8 x 16 thread. We sell them 2 for $15 or you can make your own. They make an insertion tool to put them in. I made my own. 1/2 inch hole. I think a forstner bit works best. The back of the glue block needs to be concave to properly seat against the mandrel. There is a learning curve, so be prepared to ruin a few before you get it all figured out. We also have the Box Chucks available in 1 x 8 & 1-1/4 x 8. We currently do not have these items on the site since we want to have a usage video available first. We have been selling and shipping to our customers over the phone in the interim. - - - JIMMIE
Excellent interview,it’s always great to hear how the masters got started, thanks for sharing Richard. Cheers Colin. 🏴
One question that was not asked, "Have you seen a resurgence in interest of Richard Raffan Art since you started your new RUclips videos?"
Excellent
Turning a year and a half ? That's awesome great talent
Thanks for sharing. Very interesting
Really enjoyed watching a master turn. Thank you
GREAT INFORMATION WELL DONE
Thank you for the very informative video! Greg, you rock!
Very well described process, Dale. Nicely done video. I learned a lot from your video about how this is done. 👍
Thanks from Canada for the inspiration, Dale. 👍👍
Nice job John. I like the way you part off the top from the bottom at an angle. I'm a bit confused about your statment that the parting cut has a radius. When you make the cut, do you cut a straight line (at an angle) or are you swinging an arch as you push into the stock?
Excellent presentation; thank you for posting! BTW does the CA glue cure without the accelerator?
Thanks Peter, Yes, I use the thick glue and just let it cure naturally. I don't feel comfortable spraying the accelerator where it could contaminate the pepper.
Ya for $2500 you can turn a oval bowl and that nobody will appreciate.
Not while you're alive anyways.
Such quality thanks 🙏
Nice work john and great video roger much better than the meeting.
Thank you for the excellent video. You gave me so many pearls I can use going forward. I have a Dale Larson salad bowl out of black walnut from 2010. It is beautiful to this day and used 3-5 times a week.
Great camera work!
