Melanie, that snow painting was stunning. It made we take a breath. I never thought of adding brights underneath but you’re so right. Snow doesn’t have to cover the ground completely.
Hi Tracy, ahhh thanks so much. I loved painting it, once I decided it to just go for it. Yep … that bright under painting made all the difference to the tones and colour I was able to achieve in the snow itself. Xx
Lovely Melanie, would love to see you do more of the actual painting. Congratulations
Thanks Kathy, that’s really kind of you. I do sometimes Timelapse my paintings but I was too nervous about this one to do that. It required all of my headspace 😅 You will find Timelapse’s of me painting other pieces on my RUclips feed though. Mel 🎨☺️
Beautiful paintings, I love the movement that you put in them, I too am an artist and I love painting coastal scenes, hope you sell all of them, best wishes to you and thanks for sharing them. You really are a good artist.😊
Thank you so much Carole. It is so kind of you to make the time to write such a thoughtful and generous comment. 😊xx I hope I sell them all too. I love to think of them going and living with lovely people. 🤗🎨

🙏💕
Fantastic Mel. Love your work. So fresh and lively.
You are amazing at teaching as well as creating beautiful work. Please share more if you can. xx
Victoria you are so kind, thank you so much. I’m really happy to share my knowledge and support other creatives on RUclips and Instagram. Xx
I love it but you sure you didn’t sacrifice a sheep. Never seen you use so much red, looked like a blood bath initially.
Tracy you are funny 😂it’s a good job I know you 😉 xx Only acrylic inks were used in the making of this painting😂😅
I did enjoy watching you and seeing your world. It looks pretty cold!!! So interesting to see how you arrive at a composition. Those beautiful photos mean you’ve been to lots of lovely spots and your eyes are wide open for inspiration. Thanks for the peek into your arty life. 😍
Thanks so much Julie. So glad you enjoyed it … ahhh yes always searching for THAT inspiration… even in the muddy puddles 😂☺️
Wednesday was a big surprise! You - Stuck? A break of your routine obviously gets into your head a lot. Mind full of appointments and new nieces. Hope it doesn't happen too often and congrats for getting unstuck. I can't believe the amount of ink you use! Remarkable.
Tuesday. I know it was time lapse but the amount of movement and energy that you put into your paintings is astounding. You paint in different positions, you move things around the studio, you use electric power a lot, for light and drying and warmth, all of that must get absorbed into the finished painting to show the final superb results that you create. Compared to me, if the lights right, and it's warm enough, I sit and paint, if I'm in the mood for it. That drabness comes through in my work! I wish I had your energy, skill and imagination. Well Done.
Ahhh thanks so much Doug toy are too kind. Yes I think you are right, standing up does help to get energy into the paintings. The size of some of them means I do need to use my whole arm to paint with, rather than just my hand. So it definitely gives an energy advantage. Thank you 😊
You live in such a wonderful environment Melanie, surrounded by nature and being immersed in your interests show us where your passion comes from. Walking a dog in the wilds, through forest, beside river can be an eye-opening experience too - they get everywhere and find such different places. I like the video a lot. The process you follow becomes clear and I guess it's taken you a long time to get there. The idea that you spend so much time thinking about the structure of your paintings, have multiple copies in your head!, I find is amazing. Painting boards and canvasses in advance is sensible but something I haven't considered - I just start from scratch on one thing and work 'til it's done, which can be an hour, or days. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos and be opened up to more of your methods and unlimited talent. All the Best, Doug.
Thank you Doug ☺️… oh yes prepping boards in advance really helps … also because you have to walk away for a day while it dries. I find it helps to marinate my ideas too … maybe try it and see what happens 🎨
Beautiful impact as you walk into your studio and see the painting. Awesome.
Thank you … it’s always a good test of a painting. How it makes me feel when I walk back in my studio 🤗🎨
Thanks Mel. Your vidz are always informative and fun to watch. I invariably get something special out of each one.I wish you had time for more and look forward to a new online workshop.
That’s so, so lovely of you … I’m hoping to give you a new on,in’s course this year 🎉

Can you explain why you use colouraid cards.
Hi Susan. Yes I can 👍 I use colour aid cards because one of my leading visual elements is colour. Therefore colour forms an important part of all my paintings. The colour aid cards help me make visual choices about colour really quickly. I often add more colours while I’m painting, but it takes a lot of the guessing out of the painting equation. Hope that helps 🎨
Thanks very much.
Wonderful artist. Best to invest early in Mel C-H
Why thank you so much ☺️
I really like this one..
Those are so pretty 🙂
Thank you so much 🎨🤗
I love this idea. Are these color swatches that you painted yourself? This is brilliant, bringing them with you so you can pull them out and compare to teal life.
Thanks Lisa … so glad if it helps. They are coloraid cards, so I have to admit I didn’t paint them myself 😉🤗🎨
This was an amazing course. I had so much fun playing and extending my skills and ideas I just cannot stop. I wish you had more online courses. I live in Oz and sadly can't attend workshops in person.
What amazing feedback, thank you SO much. 💝 I am so glad I was able to help you stretch and build your creativity. It what I always dreamt my course could do, this is wonderful to hear. Thank you 💕💕💕🤗🎨
Ooh I loved this! Sometimes I sit and feel a bit lost of what to do next but I always find something 🤣
Oh so true Emma. It’s amazing how much we done see that we actually do isn’t it 😂
Amazing...
Thank you 😃
Thanks again Mel - more beautiful pieces with such energy. Stunning
Thank you ☺️ I think all these pieces have found their homes. Which just makes my heart happy. Xx
They are all stunning. So sparkling and alive. Wish I could buy them ALL. Thanks Mel - give us more videos please x
Your SO welcome Victoria, thank you so much for your kind support 🤗
Hello Melanie, I just discovered you this morning.. Lovely to meet you! I am from Montreal, Canada and my question is: once you have done an exciting collage from your sketch book... how do you transat it on a canvas? Thank you for your answer. I look forward to it! Lucie
Hello Lucie … lovely to meet you too. There are soooo many ways you could do this, here is one you could try. In fact this is what to used to do when I first started painting and experimenting again. Block in your background with the colours in your chosen colour palette the same ones as your collage maybe? When I say block in … I mean place the colours in the approximate places they are in your collage, but allow them to evolve. Treat the canvas like you are preparing a piece of collage paper. Move the paint or ink around with your brush allow drips and runs. Promote and encourage creative mark making on the surface of your canvas. Then start to make some collage papers using your colour palette … make sure there are a variety of tones as well as colours so you have a range of dark tones … light tones and mid tones. Then start to collage the paper onto the canvas … enjoy the process of allowing the composition to continue to evolve. Don’t get stuck replicating your original collage. See it as a spring board for your canvas, it’s not there to replicate. Then paint into your collaged canvas pulling out the key parts of your composition. What will the superstar be … (depending on your subject) is it the light, a tree etc … The main thing is to keep having fun … just because your working on canvas … don’t let it hold you back. See every canvas as a new experiment, more fun to be had. That’s when the magic happens. Enjoy 🤗🎨 Mel
Oh my goodness Mel, absolutely breathtakingly stunning 🤩 as usual 👌 And ‘Borne my breath away’ does exactly that!!!
Thank you so much Julie. As you can tell 😅 I love that one too 💞
I love the way you think and work your way through your paintings. I always have a very intense relationship with my work that involves discussions, arguments, humour and sometimes tears. The painting always wins the argument BTW. Your paintings are beautiful and evocative.
Ahhhh our creative minds are often alike. Thank you so much for your lovely comment it means a lot.
Absolutely!!! ❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰
WOW thank you Mel x
