You have blessed us abundantly in helping us to survive as a people in spite of endless adversities. We also have your complete assurance that you will graciously continue to shower us with your rich blessings if we remain faithful to you. This we now pledge to do with your ever-present generous help. Lord, you are fully aware of our plight and know what we need most. Yet since you encourage us to seek, ask and knock, we humbly bring our petitions before you. Bring all Garinagu together as one big happy family, each member duly concerned about the other’s welfare. Give us the insight and the will to work untiringly to solve the many problems that confront us as individuals and as a people. Make us cherish and promote the culture with which you bless us and pass it on whole and entire to our children. Help our children to be proud and appreciative of what they are, to avail themselves of the opportunities open to them and to seek others beneficial to themselves and to their community. Lastly, dear Lord, help us also to work hard and use freely our many gifts in your service and for the good of all people. We ask all these through Jesus Christ, our brother and savior, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit and through our blessed Mother Mary. We also pray, Lord, in union with the spirits of our beloved ancestors AMEN.

Today October 31 is the 53 year anniversary of Hurricane Hattie. Ms Sylvera Ramirez from Hopkins told me her experience during Hattie. She also song a famous Garifuna song about Hattie and herself that her mom, Ms Perfecta Ramirez composed about Hattie.

I came across this song when my life was falling apart. Divorce, life change, you name it...I was going through it. It's amazing how this song made me cry when I went to the sea that specific night (I had lost everything). It's equally amazing how I was able to smile a year later at that same ocean (I had gained something). This song does the rare feat of both encompassing love, loss, passion, and hope. I don't think there is any other song like it. Thank you Aurelio.............
